From what I remember though, Blizzard is planning to change things up. It'll still be "MOBA", but itll play differently. Which is why I'm excited about previewing it at Blizzcon. I'm having flashbacks of Arathi Highlands.... Although could you imagine a truly 3d Moba? Air units, burrow units, fighting in tunnels/topsoil/sky Mounts doesn't mean big. Just means mobility. Able to get to a lane more quickly. It kind of fits with Blizzard's usual idea of fast paced games that you can do in under 30 minutes.

I'm now imaging Marines on Horses, Thrall in a Vulture, Barbarians healed by Medivacs, and Necromancer's skeletons getting a speed boost on a queen's creep

wait, so...was that supposed to be an announcement video? maybe blizzard hots all stars is just an elaborate ruse intended to distract people from blizzard's entrance into the fps market?
|
Wait wait wait wait.
I wasn't able to watch the video earlier, since I was at work. So I just watched it...
What the fuck are you idiots complaining about?
That was an adorable name change movie, where Blizzard reached out to a beloved member of our community. Who the hell could possibly complain? Am I taking crazy pills?

Nah man, everybody knows Blizzard is aiming for fighting community. Who doesn't want to see Capcom vs Marvel vs WoW?

Normally I don't use this sentence but in this case I think it's appropriate.

SC community be crazy. Blizzard doing anything that isn't SC is sacrilegious.

yessssss im so excited for this. I just hope it ends up being good. Who cares about the name as long as it ends up being epic to play! I also hope its much better than the blizz allstar preview they were showing a while back because that looked like utter shit. Maybe they end up creating a masterpiece like bw was, one can only hope!

Curiously, there's never been an exact dota clone for the WoW player vs player scenarios. (I mostly quit playing in 2008, so I'm not a reliable source) It seems they failed to take advantage of dota's popularity on multiple levels.

Lol look at you guys, calling it a moba XD

I think the problem that people have with blizzard doing things like this is that instead of actually trying to come up with interesting new games, they're stuck making clones of things they or other people made. They usually do a good job, and games are excellent, but they're not expanding the genre or innovative in any way.
Instead what we are supposed to be happy with is what feels like side projects, expansions and graphical updates to old games. Then again I play dota a little and used to play lol a little and I'm not particularly attached to either title. If this is fun I'll try it.

Hearthstone is pretty new (at least to me). Titan, if it doesnt get scrapped, is pretty new and innovative. Heroes might be pretty innovative too. Especially since most MOBA's right now are DotA clones with minor variations in the mechanics.
D3 and SC2 are mostly what people were asking for and wanting.

When has Blizzard ever made "interesting new games"? The only game they ever made that could be considered "unique" was...Lost Vikings? Or maybe arguably WC3.
Blizzard has never been remotely about inventing new genres or creating new archetypes. Even at their absolute prime of D2, SC1 and release of WoW they've always just leaped into existing genres and distilled everything down to a solid formula.

Just to be clear: Expanding a genre or innovating a genre requires one to stick in said genre. You can't make an innovative horror film, without making a horror film. You can't make an innovative RTS, without making an RTS.
Blizzard making a MOBA *could* be innovative and it *could* expand the genre, we as consumers don't know if they have or not; the people complaining are assuming that Blizz will fail in their innovation.
So yes, Blizz *has* to make "clones" of games they or other people have made. That's how you innovate. When the last of us was made, no one said "how boring, ANOTHER RPG? Can't they innovate something else?"
Innovating a genre requires copying the genre. Inventing new genres is the only way to not copy a genre.
For example, Blizzard making the cow level in Diablo 3 not have cows meant they didn't copy their old stuff. But, a cow level without cows just doesn't feel right does it?
This is because they didn't innovate the cow level into a better cow level, they simply made something completely new and different--and it sucked.

This is my thought as well. I think what most people are complaining about is what is being developed. As in, they never heard of Blizzard All-Stars/Blizzard MOBA and this is literally the first news about it to them. To which I say...we've known about this project for a long time. Like, I'm pretty sure since last Blizzcon? Actually, some of the videos I found are from 2011.
idk when I first read this thread I was shocked at how much hatred there was in it, and I'm just hoping Blizzard doesn't look at this and think reaching out to Carbot was a bad idea. It's literally just the name change guys. There's other videos showcasing what they plan to do with the actual game. -> http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Blizzard_All-Stars

Yeah Im kinda feeling it for carbot. To summarize some of the reactions here... we have people pissed off at the quality of video and people that are pissed off at blizzard for making the game. It's more of a spoiled girlfriend boyfriend relationship with the community and blizzard. dota community feels ignored and unloved back when dota 1 was thriving. And that bitterness just evolved into a long lasting hatred just like how the koreans are with sc2. Now blizzard wants to give something to this game but people are just pissed that its been this long. Also, you have the general idea that $$$$ = everything. since lol and dota 2 is doing well, the community feels like blizz isjust doing this to take advantage of their monies and not really being passionate about this particular game.
