On Day 3 of ESGN TV Fight Night, Kripp faced off against Artosis in a rematch from Blizzcon. He eventually clinched the series in a close 3-2 victory, with an especially exciting game 5 victory involving a very obedient Ragnaros. Let's see what Kripp has to say about these games and his experience in Berlin.
Shake
monk: Hey, Kripp. Congrats on beating Artosis with a score of 3-2. They were definitely interesting games and I'd like to get your thoughts on some of the decisions you made. First, you made the decision to not run a Mage deck in a time when Mage was considered by many to be by far the strongest class. What was the rationale behind that? I don't really play constructed much. Most of decks and cards I played were given to me by my teammates. Out of the Mage options, I thought Giants Mage would have too many counters as it was a highly anticipated and played deck. The aggro Mage variant that I tried didn't seem that great either, so I played what I thought would work -- and it wasn't Mage.
What about when the RNG wheel matched you up against Artosis? Were you hoping for a rematch of the Blizzcon finals? And how did you rate your chances? Outside the players behind them, I think at Blizzcon my decks were favored to win and I was a bit disappointed they didn't. I was absolutely wanting to play Artosis again. I felt my chances were at least even.
There were a lot of interesting plays made by both sides in both games. For example, can you walk me through what was going through your mind when you Wrathed your Sylvanas to steal a Damaged Golem? Basically when you have Sylvanas, you are blinded by the greed of stealing the best shit you can. This blindness led me to make a really stupid play.

In the final game, you made another very bold and interesting play, using equality on eight creatures and them setting up an Abomination so that they would all die. Do these kind of situations every come up in Arena and how hard did you have to think before making that play? It took a while to figure out. The idea was, Artosis doesn't run silence and whatever creature he may have taken would die to the Abom. If he took the Abom i could kill it with the sword. In hindsight I should have killed the 1/1 with Tirion to increase the odds of rag hitting face. As Rag hit face anyway, the play went well enough. That and, at 10 life, if he doesn't take Abom, I can just go face.
As for arena, pretty much everything happens in arena. Patience is so important there, especially because you have to play around every card all the time. It's not like the match against Artosis where I made a play because I knew he had no Silence.
Ragnaros doesn't usually listen to its master as well as it did that game. I believe you got four perfect Rag hits in a row. How great did it feel to get those Rag hits and then heal him from 1/1 to 1/7? Ragnaros is pretty insane. The RNG was very good but i think I was far enough ahead to afford a few misses.
And the healing? More Rag hits more win!
What did you expect going into this tournament and how was it different from your ? If you were invited back again, would you return? If not, what would have to change? I really enjoy watching and talking about the matches. I just don't like constructed much. I'd like to do this stuff from a caster, but I'd probably go back to play.
Has your opinion of constructed change at all after attending the tournament? Nope, still pretty boring.
Enjoy
Yesterday, on Reddit, lots of people praised your casting of my match against Ek0p. You had said in one of your previous videos that you didn't think you did well in terms of casting. Has this widespread positive response enticed you to possibly cast more tournaments in the future? I'm glad the response was good to my cast. I'm more hopeful about doing more of that in the future rather than playing constructed in tourneys.
Got anything interesting to say about any of the players on either team that you learned at Berlin? Not really. everyone was pretty cool, played well, and had some mistakes. Except ekop. he sucks
Alright, don't want to keep you too much longer. Any shoutouts, sponsors, plugs? Nah, I got nothing.

I'm leaning towards real, since kripp also made a passing remark about him on Value Town. And I also dislike the guy. "That's what they get for using our decks" ? C'mon man
I like how he's just himself. Even in the Berlin thing where they went for the all flashy cheerleader, Koreanesque bullshit, he didn't really seem to care for any of it. I can appreciate that. And getting revenge against Artosis was just icing on the cake.
I feel like most of the people like Kripparian, because he's just a regular guy, playing games all day etc. He doesn't have a overlay on his stream, he doesn't care about x-mas or NYE, he is not going to pretend he is excited when he is not. Just a normal joe, like me and you, playing a game.
TBH I started watching his stream because of Hearthstone. Immediately became my favourite streamer. He said that 2014 will be year of travels for him, so I hope we will see more from him.

Preeeetty sure it's a joke.
I can certainly see why he might rub off the wrong way on some people, but I'm about 99.999 % sure it's a joke.

Gotta love the man.

He gets like an average of 20k viewers, and he doesn't have a sponsor. What are they doing! He's constantly produces youtube videos and streams (practically daily) and would give great exposure to anyone that would sponsor him. I'm shocked he hasn't been sponsored. *hint hint Oasis juice*

He has gotten offers, but refused them because that would restrict what he can say on stream (alongside other T&Cs).
curious about the ekop thing. It must practically be a joke but it's so easy to dislike ekop that it can possibly be true. Also ekop did play quite poorly, along with artosis probably the worst players at this berlin thing.

Ahh that would explain why, he uses a lot of swearing, but that's just in his personality. It's nice to show that he would rather be himself rather than an image with more money.

I think its more about him voicing his opinion than the swearing. Look for example at his criticisms on D3, that would be quite hard being sponsored by blizzard for example.
Another thing is, that imho Krip realises that he just needs a house, computer with internet, orange juice and peanuts. He doesnt need sponsorship to afford those.

Well, i estimate as follows: 1k addviews is like 3$, lets say 25% of the viewers see adds, 20k viewers, adds every 20 mins - should add up to >50$ per hour for streaming. My guess is that a consistent 3-4k viewers would be enough for a low-cost lifestyle like that.
Kripp is an entertaining and chill streamer. He doesn't really whore himself out for cash/sponsorship and can articulate his thought process very well, which makes him one of my favourite hearthstone streamers to watch. He really needs to calm down on that OJ though, those cartons have so much sugar he could get diabetes or some shit
Is Kripp a full time player? He streams a lot, has shitloads of viewers, don't mentioned donations (not that it's important but almost every streamer hoping to bring in some cash does it"), don't seem to have sponser and the list goes on.
So does he have a day job and play 40 hours a week or what?
I haven't quite understood why people tune in to his stream. No music and his interaction with the viewers is sub par to most HS streamers I would say.

Wat? Im sure Kripp makes quite a lot of money from ads on twitch. Add to that donations etc.
I was laughing so hard when they showed the intro for each player, Kripp just walks in with his hands in his pockets and was like, Huh, There's a camera there, I don't care.

He also puts up a youtube video everyday that get 30-40k views on average

He gets donations but he doesn't make much of it. The top donator has become a streaming convention that, like most "good streamer" conventions, he eschews.
He's an enigma to me, but I respect him. I like him a lot more now that I have watched him play and cast Hearthstone. He is sharp and analytical.
