Yo,

I recently got a new computer, and haven't installed PS yet. I just got back from Korea and took like more than 3000 photos, so I want to get working on them...lol. I'm also backlogged in like another 2000 photos I need to finish editing...T_T

Anyway, I have a copy of CS2 lying around, but I was wondering if CS3/CS4 are worth it at all. If I recall correctly, the only real difference I've read about so far is that CS3 is threaded for dualcores. Has CS been threaded for quads (I have a quad)?

So basically...should I just dig up my CS2 and stick with it, or should I go about finding a CS3 or CS4?

Thanks.

Why don't you use trial versions to see if they fit your needs? 30-day trial (with each version) should be enough to see which one you like the most.

doesn't matter if you wont use the new functions of CS4, how ever i find CS 4 nice to use, CS3 looks more like CS2 though

they add so much new stuff with every release. i used CS2 at home and CS3 in class and CS3 was so much better and easier.
dunno anything about CS4 except that illustrator has multiple page support :O
but if your just touching up photos, CS2 is probably fine vs $1k

CS 2 is VERY solid. I'd just stick with that.

It is very solid...and yeah, I only really process photos with it. The newer functions seem to be people with illustrative and render-coloring/touching up things in mind or whatever.

Thanks...now I just need to find that old CD.

I think the big thing CS3 did was that perspective 3D stuff, but if you don't need that then it's not worth it.

edit: Oh, and all the interchangeable stuff with other Adobe programs. But if you're just running Photoshop then it's all good

If it's just for photos, lightroom is good too. Depends on what you need to do, though.

I use CS3 and it is pretty solid. All i have heard about CS4 is that it is garbage and a needless resource hog. If CS2 is light then got for that

the clone tool in CS4 is awesome.

other than that it's a bit slower, and the new support for GPU is fucked up since it won't work for me no matter the drivers, a lot of other ppl with the same problems too.

though I must say I like the CS4 layout a lot more then the previous versions.

stick with whatever version you find easiest to operate. you can download all sorts of plug ins so you wont miss any new tool or smth like that from the newest version. With that being said I tried CS4, I liked it more than CS3, it actually felt pretty similar to CS2, but because my machine is quite old I got some problems working with huge files and I got the "not enough RAM message" quite often. You wont have these issues so my advice is to go for the CS4 if you are choosing between the latest versions. With being said I'm still using PS6

I was using CS for a long time and I tried to use CS4 but I really didn't like the interface. Currently using CS2 atm and I like it.

err, while on the topic of PS, does anyone know how to increase the size of the color ramp/palette? or get a custom one to work? all my google searches go to swatch customization -_-

If you have that many photos or ANY photos and you are editing/organizing then you should torrent Adobe Lightroom because it is by far the most intuitive and best digital dark room/photo editing software.

I've heard good things about lightroom, but iono...my workflow consists mostly of just levels/curves correction and resizing...haha.

I don't really do much to my photos, and I don't shoot raw (I only have one 1GB CF card...all my other ones were stolen like 15 months ago). I'm one of those faggy straight-out-of-the-camera purist types...lol.
