Sweden: - Free healthcare - Free education with free food and books up untill you reach uni levels - Very good public transportation(atleast in Stockholm) - The ladies - Our low crime rate or whatever you may call it - Our stand against the world when it comes to keeping the internet free - Swedish people in general, find them and scandinavians to be more relaxed and polite then alot of other countries
On the other hand... - Our stand to keep the internet free is going down the drain with new ludacris copyright laws(IPRED) which basicly allows corporations to headhunt for people acting only on suspicion and without any evidence whatsoever, something our police cant even do. - Swedish people or more like people from Stockholm. Majority are "brats" as they are called or wannabee brats, cant stand them. - Swedish food, you can get basicly any type of food in Sweden but the traditional Swedish food i haven't cared much for.
Norway, where i currently live - Way less messed up financial situation due to massive amounts of oil money(10x easier to get a job here then in Sweden) - Free healthcare - Free education - Very frendly people(they love swedes for some reason) - The ladies
And... - Everything is so damn expensive!

I visited Paris last year and i was actually quite surprised about how polite and nice people were to me I guess i expected the stereotype of being completely ignored for not speaking French but body language and poiting at things gets you a long way Really liked French people tbh.

Shit yeah, there's something about playing volleyball that just molds most girls playing it into looking hot, or maybe all the hot girls choose to play volleyball, dunno, something about the sport anyway!

No, I swear he IS worse than Berlusconi. Even after that idiot just told his countrymates to enjoy their time living under tents after losing everything in the earthquake, as "camping holidays". Actually some English serious newspaper (Herald Tribune or sth) crowned him "most embarassing political leader in Europe", #2 being Berlusconi.

I guess you were lucky. I am always ashamed of being French when I see how we treat tourists, compared to how I was treated abroad. If somehow we have improved our hospitality, this is great news.

I hear a lot of mixed stuff about France. My friend, who is probably the biggest, inconsiderate shitbag in the world, went there, and said they were some of the nicest people to him, and I highly doubt he could be bothered to learn a word of french.
|
I was about 5-6 times in France and to me it seemed like this:
North Coast = Friendly (friendliest were in the bretagne, the people felt more like a very good mixture of british and french mentalities/cultures ) The more south you go the more the french stereotype hits you. I really felt like an idiot in the camargue (but it's beautiful), the only nice people were hookers that you wouldn't want to have sex with when your live depends on it .
Paris is something entirely different anyway, it's one of the biggest cities in the world after all.

Denmark
Pros: Smoking banned in all public places Free Healthcare Free Education (Although i pay for books at my university, but rip most as ebooks, lawlz) Very Cheap student loans SU (Statens Udannelsesstøtte / Government Education Support) Basically 5200 DKK,- a month for studying when living alone. ($921.22 at exchange rate 564,4700) Low crime rate Happy People Casual Attitude to pretty much everything Pretty ladies (And close to the swedish pretty ladies)
Cons: Aging Public Transport in all other places than the capitol Generally no E-Sport interest from the general public whatsoever. Social Stigma towards gaming in general is very negative. (Girl gamers are VERY rare) Taxes are too high for the service provided Even though healthcare is free the system could use MUCH improvement (Like the swedish model) Red Bulls are illegal Stuck up politicians and a population that generally doesn't understand the political system and basic economics. Internet Censorship (thepiratebay)

Sweden:
-Our social security, our hospitals, our wellfare system -The fact that you can go hike, set up a tent and fish at any place that isn't specifically owned by a private person. Swedish people refer to it as "Allemänsrätten" which I don't know what it's called in English, but we're supposedly very famous for it.. -Speaking of famous - I like the women. -Our educations. Sometimes I hate mine (physiotherapist, Karolinska Institutet/Institute), then I realize how well off we are. -How smoking isn't allowed like anywhere anymore.. -Our nature -Infrastructure and general technology (say hi to 100mbit broadband in virtually every building in stockholm) -Public transportations: Buses, subways and trains anywhere and everywhere. simple and fast. no need for a car. very enviromental. - music production - did I mention the women? - oh yeah, and swedish meatballs and the cheese slicer. too good.
Dislike (these are mainly about Stockholm) - Food prices - House/appartment prices - Winter season that can't decide whether to stay below or above freezing. always just around = snow/rain/snow/rain and roads turning into gray slushies. - How we idolize the US and seem to import every dumb concept, TV show, fashion trend etc and so on.. heck, we even had to import the financial crisis - what's up with that? - Taxes. About 30% in every region. World's highest a few years ago, dunno if it still is. - .. and how freaking productive and stressed out everyone is. There was this science article not too long ago that studied stress levels in major cities around the world by looking at various things, like the percent of people who walk up escalators or run to buses or are sick-listed for extended periods because of stress/burnout - according to this article/report Stockholm was one of the (if not the) most stressed out city in the world. and you can tell. People (At least the people I socialize with) think you're lazy if you don't work on weekends, study at least 1-2 hours every day outside school, work out 3+ times a week and sleep more than 6 hours. we're not japanese, but it's still friggin bad..

allemannsretten is such a wonderful thing, we have that here too.
at least in norway, there's a legal separation between "infield" and "outfield" property. like, the garden surrounding your house is regarded as infield and is only yours, however outfield property is an area everyone is allowed to use _even_ if it is specifically owned by a private person, ensuring that all norwegians have equal right to norwegian nature. this includes stuff like pitching a tent for 2 days, bathing/swimming etc. its really great

Pretty awesome if you ask me. Shikyo, I agree with most of the stuff you write, just want to point out that the public transportation in smaller towns isn't very good (dunno how it is in other countries though, might be worse). Also I f*cking hate "jantelagen" which basically is some moral thingie we got going here that makes it very much not ok to be succesful/smart/whatever.

In Sweden you'll quickly become a social outcast for even suggesting that you might be good at something. "Well I think I'm pretty good at cooking" "Well, why don't you make fucking dinner then you pompous prick!"
ah, the Swedish mentality... never ever think that you're anything above avarage... or get insta-bashed!

I think he means more that it looks and feels somehow more natural. Everything has grown slowly to become what it is today. Dubai and other such countries basically have entire cities stamped out of the ground, this is nothing bad but you notice the diffrence if you compare them to over centurys grown cities.
Just type into google pictures and compare *grown* cities to *made* cities: Bern, Zürich, Hamburg, Paris, Rome, Neapel...................... (there are tons and every single one is diffrent) Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Brasilia..... Yeah, cool, big skyscrapers...
This *new* stuff often just lacks charme and charisma.

- Free Health Service. - Good education. - You're born speaking the most recognised language on the planet. - In Scotland we don't pay tuition fees. - Smoking ban makes life better. - We have probably the best popular music heritage of any western country (apart from the fact that it sucks right now) - Decent independent films. - Pretty countrysides and hills.
Dislikes:
- Neds and Chavs. Youth crime is ridiculous here. - Even though it's free the NHS has alot of problems, so alot of people don't end up getting treatment if they need it and others get it when they don't. - E-sports basically don't exist in the UK. - Our government is getting more and more right wing. And it's the labour party thats in power... - High taxes, although I don't pay them yet. - Our currency sucks right now. - Massive rates of binge drinking. Pretty sure Scotland has among the highest rates in the world. - All major Scottish cities have huge drug problems (usually Heroin) - It rains alot. And it's windy. - Lots of towns are dead because our economy only exists in the business districts or in oil. - For those who drink, alcohol is expensive. - For those who drive, petrol is expensive. - For those who eat meat, shit national dishes - among the worst national cuisine out there - For those who don't - good luck eating out ( )
Meh, all I can think of right now. I'll probably move when I leave school
