On the Sci-Fi forums, people were being haters (well maybe that's not the right word), much like -orb- was being, except that Jamal and sWooZie post to those forums and they called out someone who was saying that Jamal sucked at PGR. Here's the battle report of the resulting showdown:
Okay so I join Zophar321 (Jamal) to watch his race in an XBOX Live party. You know- I'll shoutcast this here on the forums so we can see what all goes down.
The game is Forza 2... here we go
Lights count them in...
LAP 1: Jamal in lead- rokslide is keeping it close
first turn... still pretty close
rockslide takes next turn and flies into grass rockslide gets back on track jamal: "I'm already 7 seconds ahead of this bum"
LAP 2: Jaml enters into lap two rokslide enters lap two 11 seconds after Jamal
LAP 3 Jamal enters into lap 3 rokslide enters into lap three 15.9 seconds behind Jamal I ask Jamal halfway through the 3rd lap 'How you feeling about the race Jamal?" he responds saying "My blood is not pumping, I'm not even sweating I was expecting competition cuz I haven't played this in forever"
Jamal wins... BIG
They go at it again--
I'll just skip to the end results and let you guys know Jamal was so far ahead that rokslide DNF. I think rokslide might've done better if he was playing on a steering wheel and on stage in front of 500 screaming people- but I guess it's like he said in the first post "A true gamer is good at all forms of games, not just one."
Well rok- to answer the question you ask when you created this thread. Yes we call ourselves "gamers" Owned.

Seriously you guys need to give us more credit. Yes rob is a threat but I have the most overall game wins in the house. Do you guys look at our wins? Geoff is a WCG champ, Alyson Rainbow 6 national champ, others have national wins. Did you know Jamal won 3rd at the iron man of gaming last year? It's basically a competition like this but pure gaming skill, no real life challenges and multiple genres with games going across all consoles and from up to 20 yrs back even.
You underestimate us all. Don't talk crap if you can't back it up. You say you're better than us what have you won? Also where were you for auditions? I can see you on for season 2 right? Will you be at SGC to compete against us? You get where I'm going with this... That's the thing... it's Rock Band, you're all supposed to be competing to be the top "all-around" gamer, and at least 1/4 of you are "just learning" a game like Rock Band? Hell, even my mother knows how to play Rock Band. Speaking for myself, I've never devoted myself wholly to a game. You've said in clips that you spend 10-14 hours a day playing the same game. I'm sure the same is true for many of the other players who are the best at their game. If you're finding the ultimate all-around gamer, finding individual national champions seems like the most absolutely backwards way to pick contestants that I can imagine. The national champions have reached that status because they are the ones who IGNORE the majority of genres and focus on a specific game or two. Big names and good looking girls bring in an audience much better, though; that's clearly what this show is for. Someone who is above average in the games played so far would be breezing through, without any "national championships," or hell, even an appearance at a tournament. College kids who spend their nights playing various games until 6:45 AM (See post time) could dominate a gaming competition with Ultimate Gamer contestants simply by knowledge of a variety of games. Would we beat Swoozie in VF, you in Guitar Hero, or Dante in PGR? Not a chance, but we wouldn't be last, and that's all that counts. In all, I think most of us here are just frustrated with the format of the show and are taking it out on the contestants. It's not even going to be close to finding out the "ultimate all-around gamer." Dante just won 2 challenges by a landslide as far as I can see and look at the huge advantage he's gained going into Episode 4! ... oh wait, there isn't one. If anything, he's just painted a target on his back. The more I see, the more I think that people should take back what they said about how this show should be on G4. It deserves MTV, if anything. This is the same level as the CGS; I don't know what it will take for a producer to start realizing that most real gamers aren't the people to be suckered in by flashy effects and big stages. We want to see serious top level gaming competition and be awed by THAT, not by the environment it's in. (Admittedly though, the chicks do get us.)
Since you're so opinionated, I'm quoting your post.
So, fair argument. I disagree. First off, we're not watching each persons performance from beginning to end. This means we don't have all of the information to actually slander people, as you are.
But let's suppose for a second that we do have all of the information, as we do in the final elimination stuff (though even that isn't all that close to true). Being very good at one game does not make you bad. Being an all around above average gamer is good... but as it is for any skill, mastering one game makes mastering other games much easier, especially if they are similar. I would put my money on Ciji over some scrub who thinks he's fly at UW (even if he's experienced in multiple titles). Why? Because I KNOW that Ciji has merits, and even if her game isn't picked I can rely on the fact that she has the talent to be above others in a much tighter field (i.e. the upper echelon of a widely played title), and she has the mental mindset to think on ways to win. Same applies to a lot of these people. I have been around the competitive scene for awhile now, and have competed in a bunch of local tournaments and have been reasonably successful (I say this not to brag, but as a citation of sorts), and I know for a fact that the general gamer kid does not have the right edge when it comes to winning.
Furthermore, if you're basing things off of PGR4, you have a very narrow mindset. I play games better with a controller than a steering wheel. I'm not bad at racing games, but it would be a weak point for me, and with the interface as it was it'd be even harder. So basing the entire skill of these people off of that is bizarre to me.
But let's suppose for a second that you're not, and you're factoring in every title so far. There is added pressure (I don't know if you've ever played anything for 100k, but based on your opinions, I'm going to say no) when you are playing for money.. and on stage.
Anyway, I'm not trying to say that these are in fact the best gamers in the nation overall. People who are very talented are invariably eliminated, and even people on the show have their talents cut off due to unfortunate circumstances (See Alyson). Yet, I respect these people as having a lot of talent, and I don't see why you shouldn't. Have I seen what they've showed and been like, "Really? I could probably do better than that!"? Sure. But the fact still stands you're dismissing them entirely, and I think that's wrong.
Oh, and MTV? You realize that while the formatting is Americanized as it is, MTV would've probably been a bit of a mockery of the entire event. SciFi is at least the right audience... the nation is not yet ready for this kind of thing. Though I think you're only saying this because you think you're amazing at games and that the people on there are not..
Besides, now that this event has happened, more people will know about it. More people will participate... so next season will probably have a lot of talent as well, probably more.
P.S. Ciji, I don't think you should get so riled up... Some of the people here seem to still be under the impression that girls are useless at video games (something that times will change, I'm sure haha). You've shown that you obviously know what you're doing (p.p.s awesome drifting!). Oh, and I hope you don't mind me using you as an example... it could've been any name, but whatever.
And Alyson is gone.

There's a lot more crying on this show than I would have expected... A lot lot more. Enjoying it anyway, even though it's hilarious the female clan leader girl can't take a hint about what the others think of her.

haha, this show is entertaining...
the really only bad thing about the episode was the game ... nvr really liked racing game... or at least without giant turtle shells

Wow, just watched episode3. Really great episode. + Show Spoiler + I feel gutted for Alyson tbh. To be eliminated before any of her strong games are played and because she was so far ahead in the race at some point. Seems like Geoff is just sort of ghosting through right now, but he still has his 2 strong genres to come.
|
Yeah I was actually really looking forward to seeing how good Alyson was at Halo (I think that's the shooter they are playing?).
Also, regarding the drama that has taken over this thread; I've said this before, but this isn't a gaming competition. It's a reality show that features gaming. Stop expecting or wishing it to be a gaming competition, because it isn't and it won't be. Just enjoy it or don't.

It's a fun reality show with video game challenges.. lol GOGO Geoff and CiJi Fighting!

+ Show Spoiler [Ep3] +I did too until I realised she was wearing heels to play a game that involved pedals... That's just dumb lol. Still... It's a shame, since I really don't like Jamal.

Everyone sucked on PGR, getting 2nd place is no achievement lol, you really want to compare that with your Rockband wins? I run better laps than anyone did on that track and I don't even own a console.... Sad

Besides your brag intro, Geoff is the only one who's win means something on this forum. RB6 is a console shooter, and most pc gamers agree that console "pro gaming" is a total joke (with the exception of fighters, which have to be played on sticks/controllers). Watching a shooter match on console is like watching 12 years old with downs syndrome fighting in an MMA ring. Jamal 3rd at iron man? Sucks I have never heard of iron man once in my 10 years of taking part in eSports. Your wins at rockband I guess can be considered "impressive", but rockband is still a 2nd tier game when it comes to competitivity and will never be on the level of SC, CS1.6 or Q3.
You underestimate us all. Don't talk crap if you can't back it up. You say you're better than us what have you won? Also where were you for auditions? I can see you on for season 2 right? Will you be at SGC to compete against us? You get where I'm going with this...
Half the users on this site don't live in the US, 99% of the userbase had never heard of auditions for this and quite frankly, those who did probably didn't care. It's reality TV and clearly not a gaming competition. I like to see high level gaming, not drama between geeks. If I want drama, gaming forums are quite the gold mine, no need to tune in to sci-fi. As for me, no you won't see me on season 2, unless I know someone like this season, I won't even watch season 2.
Seriously! Not trying to be a b--- but what happened to all the nice supportive messages? Did you all get a stick up your butt since then or what? I miss the nice ppl on here.
The show is called the "Ultimate Gamer", yet you guys put up terrible scores at most games, scores that most casuals would match... Not so ultimate if you ask me. That's why some users are questionning your skills.
Geoff.... where are you? You texted me but I don't see your postings on here... We need your intellect and bad ass messages on here. :D
/b/lackup needed?
Anyways, don't take this the wrong way, I'm just saying the way it is presented makes it look like you're all a buncha noobs (yes, inc and swooz included, swoozie's my boy and he couldn't beat neone on VF, utterly disappointing). Add on top of that our general opinion on console gamers (which make up like 90% of the cast) and you have the reasonning behind most people's posts.

if I said you're a sad nerd with no life, NO OFFENSE would you take offense to it?

i really like this show so far and i can see how the editing makes people out to be different than they are. as for episode 3, i think the interesting things that were skipped over are that Rob, despite sucking at driving and not doing before, nevertheless came in 2nd in PGR with the wheel.
i liked the showdown between jamal and dante outside the competition, i'd like to see more of that on the show (and on this website).

What difficulty was the Virtua Fighter challenge? If it was hard, I can see how some of the contestants didn't make it past the fourth or fifth stage.
