I was wondering which pizza place people prefer. I'm too lazy to make a poll, so could you just post some ideas and explanations on why you like them? Also, there's a lot of exclusive pizza places that wouldn't fit well in a poll because of the variety of people that visit tl.

This place is exclusive to western canada, but there's a place called verns pizza, and it delivers the biggest, meatiest pizzas I've ever seen. There's a god damn chicken/cow sliced up on each pizza.

in the U.S. of A, i say Costco. they cut the already large pizza into large pizzas, so you don't have to get that many slices to be full. i like the combo, has everything on it.

I like generally most types of pizzas so I do not really have a preference. Some of the pizza places I like include pizza hut, papa johns, dominoes, and little caesars.

Funky Pickle in Edmonton. Always open and ready for a visit from exhausted pub patrons.

Expensive though.

But fucking amazing.

The only time Domino's is good is when nothing else is open and you're too drunk to realize what you're eating.
I prefer Uno's pizza - reasonably priced and amazingly amazing.

Those of you near NYC or a few select cities will have severely different standards than everyone else (similar to bagels :D)

Edit: Mario's pizza here on long island has some of the best. I heard a rumor that Spumoni Gardens in Brooklyn has awesome pizza, but I have yet to try it.

Omfg Costco pizza owns for chain/commercial pizzas. Don't get the frozen/premade one in the back of the store, order the circular ones from the food court area. They're pretty cheap, really big, and a lot better than Pizza Hut/Domino's/Papa John's/etc. The cheese is so gooey and melty...

Pizza Nova.

Best sauce in the world. It's mostly thin (or thinnish, not sure, haven't been there in a while) crust, and their dough is great too. Cheese is perfect, pepperoni isn't too rubbery or too hard, and their olives are great as well.

Domino's, Cotsco, also Conni is good.

Any italian tl.netters? that would be interesting. (not saying the best pizza is in italy, but its likely that theres more places specialized on it there) Also many people don't know how the first pizzas were, they weren't round or with bigass bread, so I want to know some places that serve the original pizza!

Everything at the food court is pretty amazing. Every time I go, I just have to get a full pizza and a hot dog.

Generally anything from an Italian restaurant with REAL Italians working there. Pizza chains like Papa John's, Dominoes, Pizza Hut, etc. all suck ass. That's not real pizza, that's processed pizza.

anything in ny or nj has a 99% chance of being better than anything anywhere else. any time ive gone out of this area and had pizza, it tastes like shit.

and to anyone who mentioned a chain place, you need to get some taste =[.

Aye, that's the ONE good thing to come out of NY/NJ, you fuckers know how to make some pizza.

Edit - And subs for that matter. I plan on driving up to Philly (it's practically NJ) sometime this summer and get me a real cheesesteak.

100% true, most non-chain pizza places around here (nj/ny) are very good.

Don't come to Philly for cheese steak. If your planning on going to Pat's or Geno's which are the 2 main cheese steak places. I had it last year as a freshman going to university here in Philly. They sucked tbh... The cheese steaks at my cafeteria are better than those lol!

=p

Pat & genos are the big places in philly, and from what I gather, there's a lto better. I forget the name (I was practically crawling there i was so drunk), but I had an AMAZING one last time I went to Upenn. It looks like an old school diner, flashy signs, grey and black exterior. a philly person can probably name it... it's a 5 min taxi ride from upenn dorms.

in jersey, the best cheesesteaks by far are at the midway cheesesteak stand in seaside. that alone makes it worth going to that scummy palce =p. Ortley is 10x better.

Definitely Papa Johns.

The garlic sauce they add with the pizza makes it awesome, and it's cool how they throw in a delicious pepper with every pizza for you to enjoy.

Costco pizza is ok... (Maybe because the costco's in canada aren't the same?) But I really like the costco fries though.

As for the best pizza, I would say it's the place in my bus station. It's awesome, cheap, and has a lot of variety!

ROFL @ ppl saying shit like Papa Johns and Pizza Hut. Have you never had a real pizza?

Best pizza in the country: Gino's East in Chicago

Runners up include Uno's in Chicago, Lou Malnati's, and Giordano's (chains, but Chicago branch is best), depending on personal taste.

Guess they are different. There's no fries at the CostCo's I've been to in the States.

I went to NY, and had pizza there. It was easily the best Pizza I have ever had. However, I live in Redlands, and I actually like Little Caesars, despite what people say about chains. Their $5 pizza is pretty cheap, low in grease, and it isn't that bad.

Authentic Italian cuisine is pretty damn good, but its super fucking expensive where I live so I op for the cheaper guys while I'm still not making the big bucks.

I went to Italy when I was younger, and had genuine Italian foods for every meal. The pizza there seriously has no competition anywhere in the world. As long as you enjoy the purist toppings [ sauce, cheese, garlic ] you will be blown out of your mind.

Just as a reference in NY I've been to the actual original ray's, and some other famous places by friends when I was there.

In Chicago I've had Giordano's and one or two others.

Imo Giordano has the closest flavor to Italian pizza, which is why I was so happy/surprised when I was there and ate for the first time. Brought back memories of Italy.

Imo New York pizza is so shitty. I don't understand how there is even an argument for New York pizza. What's so great about it? It's bigger slices and more toppings? Is that seriously how you grade a pizza? Like when I ask people in real life they get all excited because you have to fold the pizza to eat it. Congratufuckinglations?

Maybe it's an opinion?

Like my opinion (when I went to Italy for a month) that true Italian food sucks shit.

And the reason why you don't like NY pizza is probably because you're used to all the bland Italian food.

Really, who the fuck wants to eat a loaf of bread with a three inch layer of uncooked mozzarella? Or "real" spaghetti with crap sauce? No thanks, I'll take my Americanized version any day.

and they are quite delicious

I seriously do not know any place that has 'exceptionally high quality" pizzas because i dont go out around town (im in NY, but not the city) enough, but Uno's I like. Any other place is meh; I'll eat it, but it's not anything special.

Mmm ... I like Papa John's.

When compared to other places, Papa John's has a bigger and softer crust, they give more generous toppings, and it's not all weirded out by grease: it works WITH the pizza :D

And their garlic sauce is soooooooooooooo unhealthy but sooooooooooooooooo good

edit: I'm reading all these hate posts against Papa John's but I'm not really a big pizza fan. I'd take rice and kimchi anyday -_-

A friend and I actually do high end pizza catering hes a multi medal winner in several pizza games.Hes gotten medals in freeestyle, biggest, fastest pizzas and in folding pizza boxes the fastes.Booth he and I have run several pizza joints.Everything from wood fired ovens to convery belt ovens.Weve done it all.
As far as the catering goes it is great goood money and easy work generally the Ice sculpting is harder than doing pizzas though not nearly as fun.
We usually do a few partys a month sometimes a few more than the one or two that always come up.Ive also had the plesure to work for the Louie Vaton people(sp?) (high end designer clothes/bags)For all the corprate heads of that company from literally all over the world bunch of snobs if you ask me.Also we have a regular gig at this rich guys house that if i had to cmpare to something its what id imagne Hugh Heffners pad while parting to be like down to the scantely clad ladys and the groto under the water fall in the swiming pool, no jokes im dead serious here.

So after all that id have to say The Pizzaiolo the catering we run. heres his myspace for those that dont ahve myspace sorry but thats all he has currently.

Funny how this came up.

I'm going with a bunch of coworkers tomorrow to this supposedly best pizza place in Brooklyn and Manhattan. It's near the Brooklyn bridge, apparently.

Also, bagels here are pretty awesome.

There was some rocket pizza place at Disneyland, "I was like $30 for pizza? This shit better be the best pizza I've ever eaten". It was.

Otherwise, Costco or Little Cesar's, cheap, tastes, good and gets me full. Omnomnomnomnomnom

I like the chain pizza places, dominoes and pizza hut, i never got to try papa johns or any other one if there is. But personally, theres a few pizza places near me that are pretty good, just the way the cook it is generalyl very good. And if you ever visit new york and end up on arthur avenue (really italian place, very good food and everything there) Theres a palce called the half moon pizzeria or something of the sort, it was voted the best pizza in nyc a few years ago, it's amazing.

And from what i hear ny has the best pizza, or atleast up there, compaired to other states. and little italy/athur avenue is like the pinnacle of good food. So it means something.

The reason why I don't like NY pizza is because there's nothing special about it. The toppings are good, the dough is good, but it stops there. Coal ovens do make a huge difference I'll give you that. It's just that there's nothing ' bang ' about NY pizzas. It all tastes like something any person who has some cooking ability could make if they really tried. I'm actually Korean and from what I can tell you there's nothing bland about Korean cuisine.

Since you like NY pizza, what is it about the pizza that you like? I'm curious simply because people that I ask in person who have been to NY just say that it's good because it's so big.

For an ' opinion ' that says it's good cuz it's a big slice, that's pretty weak in my book.

Costco of course. 2$ for a slice big enough to feed Liberia, or 10$ for a pizza that will feed the rest of africa.

followed by Little Caesars (5$ for a large pizza that you dont need to wait for? insta win regardless of taste)

followed by dominoes (3x5$ medium 1 topping pizza, tastes better than LC, but you have to get 3 and wait for em)
how reasonable is it to eat off wood instead of your tummy?

Ack, NY pizza is better than any other pizza in the US. It's probably the attention to detail that makes it so great. So many joints go out of their way to get great ingredients and a great oven. The try to perfect their process.

I really don't know who you've been talking to who's said it's good because it's "big", but they sound retarded.

I've eaten pizza in cities all across this country, and nothing ever even comes close to pizza in NYC. If you think otherwise, you're in a considerable minority.

This is a much better explanation than those I've received in the past.
I don't think you read the part about where I've eaten pizzas at though.
Also I was fairly sure the deep dish vs ny style didn't really have a ' considerable minority ' either way.

I see where you've eaten pizza. I personally don't think Chicago pizza is as good as top NY pizza at all. I've had real pizza in Italy, and it's almost a completely different food from USA pizza, pretty much incomparable.

Most people I know like brooklyn style over deep dish style, but that's pretty much irrelevant I guess.

I don't know what it is about NY pizza that makes it so great. Maybe it's the water, but even the small NY joints make better pizza than 95% of the US.

i went to rome once and had a REAL pizza, and found a few places here and there try to recreate it here. I really suggest if on the menu you see mahgarita pizza, you try it. It consists of basil, sauce, and mozzarella. Its very simple and basic pizza that is honestly just a great balance.

You are correct sir, actually....it IS because of the water, or so it is said. When people go to contests, the ones from NY will bring NY water....and they win. Coincidence perhaps, but....well, happens all the time.

Mountain Mike's is great, great pizza. Mostly in California though I believe they now have one or two in Nevada and Arizona, possibly Oregon as well. The pepperoni actually has a taste to it, unlike so many chain restaurants.

I despise Pizza Hut and Domino's and Little Caesar's, though Round Table is pretty good. It's like Mountain Mike's Jr.

The top of the top in my opinion is Pizza California, a mom and pop restaurant in North San Jose. My coworkers and I used to go there every week, the pizza is just that good. The cheese is thick, crust is firm but not too firm, just shy of it being gooey. This is the kind of pizza you may have to eat with a knife and fork. Delicious. They have some award for being #2 in Silicon Valley though I don't think I ever found out who was #1. So, by default, they've become my #1. =]

I don't think dominos/pizza hut are that bad.
The problem alot of independants have around here is their pizzas taste too salty , so i'm inclined to say the chains are better than some of the independants.
Once again back is the incredible!

Because it tastes good. Simple as that.

To Equinox_kr, do you go to PS3? Or whatever that school is near the police department? But then again, that's an elementary school. Or do you go to Fordham? Those really the only two schools I can think of within two blocks of that place. Except for Mt. Ursula, but that's an all girls' school.

Pizza hut pizza really sucks and its expensive. Dominos is a little better but still not very good. Out of the big franchises Papa John's is probly the best. For me though a little place called Pizza Po in Ansan is my favorite, 10 000 won (about 11$) potato pizza delivered to your door with a free coke.. just too damn easy..

The great thing about New York Pizza is it has a crisp crackly exterior and a soft chewy interior, all in a thin crust.

And I must say, Lombardi's is the most overrated place I've ever eaten. The pizza was good yea, but it was more expensive and not as good as the average hole in the wall

Well, the entire group really liked the Pizza, it's our first Pizza in NY though.

We all live in Manhattan and we don't own a car. This Pizza place is conveniently close to the F train, as well, we wanted to see the Brooklyn bridge and the Foulton landing (is that what it's called?).

Care to recommend a few of these good eateries that are accessible by train ?

Totally random bump, but I'm going to Philly tomorrow. Visit Jim's cheesesteaks. That's the best place hands down. Trumps Pat's/Geno's!

It's inside of Costco. It's actually a bulk store, like a Sam's Club, or anything similar. I don't know what else there is, but I assume there are Sam's Clubs nation wide.

Without any hesitation whatsoever: Napoli, Italy.

Rant about how good the pizza is in Napoli, and how bad all other pizzas are:
+ Show Spoiler +

The pizza in Napoli is beyond everything else. Like Boxer vs random bnet n00b.

The pizza in Napoli is levels above everywhere else in Italy, and I've ben around a fair bit and testing them out. And Italian pizza outside Napoli is still way better than anything you can get in europe, including so called italian restaurants owned by so called italians. Never been to US, but I cant see that they'd make a better job than rest of europe when it comes to pizza. In fact, if the pizza in US is anywhere near the prejudice I have or rumors I've heard about them, then they are a few steps below the european ones.

Actually it is insulting to Napoli to use the word "pizza" about what they serve outside italy. It's like watching the epic Savior-Iris semifinal, and then go ob a horrible newb fastest game and claim "ah common, still same game".

Ahh, that rant felt so good.

I have to say individual places rock for pizza. The place I work for here in Germany makes pretty good ones. But the best I have ever eaten is "Mooses Tooth" in Anchorage, AK. They are starting a chain though I think. Last time I was there, there was also another place called "Bear Tooth" where they would serve pizza in a movie theater. Great Pizza and great prices.

If you live in Southern Cali Ameci's is the best imo. The dankest pizza ever. I loved most of the pizza in new york city when i went to visit, but for some reason Ameci's is my favorite ever. All the chain pizza places i can think of suck, except papa john's and they are ok, but too expensive.

edit: oh and as for chains sbarro's is pretty good, but they are also expensive.

Not sure if you're thinking of the right one; Mcdonalds is on 3rd street and theres nothing around it. Impostos is on 1st and Gio's is on 6th. Imposto's has all the crazy slices and gios has like chicken parm, pepperoni, ziti, and plain usually.

In the US (from my experience, which is limited at best)

Angelies/Angelis/Angelys Pizza. This pizza was amazing, it was expensive, yes, but damn it was good. Anyone in or around L.A. should pop in and try it, friggin' amazing. Make sure to get some olive oil and bread with you before you leave. We were in LA for 15 days, and ate there thrice.

In Denmark
Competition between Azzura in Aalborg and an Italian restaurant in Skagen. Both charge 15$ for a pizza, but damn there good. Best bang for the buck is Amigos in my town, 3$ for a slice that easily fills your drunken stomach and 3 am.

In Italy
They're all good. Anyone saying that any Pizza can beat a traditionally made Italian pizza is way off. There's a reason Pizza is an italian dish, cause these folks know how to make it. I have yet to have pizza in italy that was worse than the best I've had in any other country. If you love pizza, visit Italy, you won't be disappointed.

round table. it's the only one that tastes like real food.

OH yeah, and costco pizza. WAYYY better than fastfood pizza's. it's huge too.

If it's junk food you wnat, then anywhere, dominos pizza hut is all good. especially with their 555 deals. but personally i can't put those in my mouth anymore. soo disgusting.

a sort of mid way is papa jons. not as clean and fresh as roudn table, but not as nuked as pizza hut or dominos.

But i must admit round table is a bit expensive comapred to th erest.

I used to work at pizza hut, the pizza is horrible. I like smaller pizza chains, like around where I live, Manginos is fantastic. I have some stories from pizza hut, but i doubt any of you would ever want to hear them, as you wouldn't want to eat there again...

I used to work at pizza hut, the pizza is horrible. I like smaller pizza chains, like around where I live, Manginos is fantastic. I have some stories from pizza hut, but i doubt any of you would ever want to hear them, as you wouldn't want to eat there again...

I want to hear the stories, please share them!
