https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.5591367 That is great news, here we seem to have it under control as well. But people are also starting to break the social distancing rules so Im hoping it stays sway as things reopen. With travel restrictions and pretty good testing capabilities it seems within reach. Good story about why vietnam has done so well. https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/world/vietnam-how-this-country-of-95-million-kept-its-coronavirus-death-toll-at-zero/ar-BB14NlV5?li=AAggNb9

Meanwhile, we had only 8 new cases yesterday. Numbers are still going down.

It would not be shocking if they are fairly close to the US right now and just don't have the funds (especially in the NE where it is poor and didn't vote for their current leader) to do enough testing. They are liekly missing so many deaths and cases as is. Personally my son who's 7 developed a rash, low grade fever and swollen glands. He got swabbed for covid (which took 2 tries as he pulled it out the first time as it was pretty darn deep) and they will know Monday or Tuesday. We have been basically isolated and there are not a ton of cases around here so I would be shocked if that was it. Hopefully it was allergies (which I have, and it seems like he does) and then the ear infections he has been getting on and off for a bit now. He will be going to a ENT to have that checked out as well. Fun of parenthood, kids get sick and you worry, likely not major and the doctor was great and reassuring. But scary to a young kid with all the PPE and the special area in the hospital you go for testing. Crazy times we live in! I don't think you need to worry that much about your son though, since the disease is almost never dangerous for children. The risk of death must be almost astronomical at that age without some strange comorbidities.

Daycares are going to be very strange. The workers have to wear masks which will impede the development of young children's language and socialization skills, the ratios are very different (going from a max of 12 children per 2 teachers to a max of 4 children per 1 teacher for infants), and currently there's discussion of not giving any lunch break to the employees - perhaps leading to a 4 day work week. This is because they won't be able to swap out teachers during lunch breaks as they will only have 1 to a room instead of 2 (the 2 person ratio is 6 instead of 12, so it doesn't even double. Not as cost-effective, so they won't do it).

It was quite a difficult time trying to understand what all of the instructions were (since a lot seemed contradictory, or quite convoluted). My wife and I are both still employed, and have been working from home since mid-March, it's been quite nice. It's never felt 100% like a complete lockdown, as we have not been hit as hard. Social distancing was the main thing they touted, and also there were quite strict instructions in place to not gather in groups. For me, I have a dog, so I was outside every day, and it was never a particular concern for my own well-being, but we both did try to keep it to just the essentials -- grocery shopping (and a lot of booze buying). As it stands now, restrictions are lifting, we are now able to have gatherings of 20 people outside or at someone's home. Most businesses can re-open but have to adhere to the same 20 person limit. I have seen it feel almost back to normal when I go out now, though I hope people don't get complacent and stop adhering to social distancing and so forth.

It is a bit scary that people take this so lightly now, but in this city with 1,4 million inhabitants we only average 2 new cases in icu per day over the last 10 days, so something must have changed, whether it is the summer or the number of people with antibodies.

1. How long this would last - In January, it was like, cool but it'll be like SARS/MERS. No major impact to my life 2. How severe it would get in Canada - BC handled it beautifully, Quebec/Ontario shat the bed. 3. The efficacy of masks apart below N95 standard - Seems any face covering that absorbs droplets dramatically reduces transmission. For me, work says the absolute earliest we'd have a limited re-opening of the office is August. They might reopen it for personal item/work item pickup though before then. I'd want to get all my personal stuff and probably my work chair as well. We have Herman Miller Mirra's at work which are amazing in summer. They're mesh, so your ass gets nice and ventilated. My home chair is faux-leather, so I sweat in it when the temperature rises.

Also, my kids Covid test leaked so it is a no go. But its such a low chance and he is doing better so no worries. Annoying that my wife called for results and find out that way. But the people are likely under tons of pressure. So not a big deal.
