Even without NYC the curve on that graph looks like it is flattening to me.
I think the most interesting thing about this article is the Florida graph. I've been saying Florida was going to be the next big hot spot since forever and it's because they are one of the most populous states, they were one of the last states to issue shelter in place orders and then they were one of the first states to start reopening. They seem to have done everything "wrong" yet their graph is practically nosediving. Really makes you wonder why. My guess would be the heat and humidity. I was last there in the middle of January and it was in the mid to high 80s with 80%+ humidity. I was sweating my balls off in the middle of winter.

Some good news, the Asians are again in the front line, this time the Japanese:
A team of researchers said it has discovered an antibody able to identify and neutralize the new coronavirus, a potential step forward in the race for better testing and treatments of the deadly disease.
The research team, led by Kao Corp. in Tokyo and the startup Epsilon Molecular Engineering (EME), which is associated with Saitama University, succeeded in isolating it from more than 10 billion other candidates, it announced on May 7.
The antibody is expected to have applications in diagnostics and testing for the virus.
Since it can identify the new coronavirus easily, the team said it plans to share the antibody with other research organizations to study its use in testing, which could potentially lead to faster diagnosis than the currently available polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests.
The antibody is a protein that can bind to viruses.
The team selected and researched one known as the VHH antibody.
That antibody comes from a camelid, a group of mammals that includes camels and llamas, and has a simple structure. It is just one-10th the typical size for an antibody.
It is easy to modify the VHH antibody, so it can respond to virus mutations. It is also suitable for mass production, according to the research team's announcement.

This coronavirus lockdown feels like a timeless period already. I can't tell what's different today from yesterday. Not much positive news, just plain statistics of new cases and recoveries...

Is anyone else having the best mental health since they can remember? I don't think I've felt this level of peace since high school. Its like I've finally been able to fully relax. Didn't know this was possible.

Both my wife and I are still making money from our jobs, our immediate family and friends have been safe and healthy, and we can all afford to live in our current pandemic situation for the foreseeable future, so I'm certainly privileged to not be feeling as restless as many other people. We're lucky.

Too many people I know are out of work and struggling to see how they'll get jobs after this ends. Particularly, all my friends in the restaurant industry, schools, and hospitals. The possibility of a long slump, and an unjustifiably long persistence of the most brutal measures, keeps me worried.

I feel like people aren't being realistic about the future at the moment. Specifically wedding invites I've been getting.

Yeah, is it like 16.7% unemployment in the US? Scary stuff.

Yeah, is it like 16.7% unemployment in the US? Scary stuff. Really it's much higher than that when you consider how it's calculated. U-6 unemployment is already above 22%

Yea, I'm able to work from home and so far none I know have gotten sick, so I'm definitely just feeling positives for myself here. My quality of life's better than it's been for over a decade, and I feel more relaxed and motivated than ever. Not having two hours commute by bus+train a day, and not having to consider all the people around me at all times has eliminated some massive energy thieves from me. Being able to work uninterrupted, prioritizing my own work more and trying new stuff as well has been excellent compared to the more regulated, formalized everyday work reality. Hell, right now, I'm actually looking forward to my work day rather than dreading the "waste of time" it usually feels like.
My job description is primarily clerk-based work, so I doubt I'll be able to do much home officing once society re-opens, but god, if I'd be able to work like this more, I might stop being such a moody, constantly exhausted motherfucker all the time.

I think the people on this forum are generally people who are mostly fine being stuck at home all day. This forum selects for people who generally like solitary enjoyment at home, and i would guess that there is a pretty high percentage of people doing computer stuff for work here, which can be pretty easily done at home.
I notice that i am pretty fine being stuck at home, but my wife is crawling up the walls. She is generally more social and enjoys getting together with people, so the isolation is hitting her a lot harder than me.

Sure, I can imagine more extroverted people are feeling the containment more intimately than introverts such as myself. At the same time, it's pretty much a "welcome to my world"-kinda scenario; everyday life of forced social interaction has me going up the walls, and unlike the corona lockdown which is only a temporary situation, the normalcy of society is a constant and undening torment for introverts.
You'd think this'd allow extroverts to empathize with what introverts have to go through on a daily basis their entire lives thanks to extrovert society and work organization, but I guess introspection's never been the focal point of extroverts.

Feeling very good and very thankful. Hope everyone else is well.

Doing much better once I left the apartment in the big city and went to my family's house in the countryside. This involved me spending 2 weeks in quarantine within 2 rooms of the house, but now I'm out and about (within the house, of course). Just having people close-by to eat and talk with (and, of course, mom's home cooking) made this all much more tolerable for me. Luckily, my job allows full home office. Heck, I'm not even in the same state!
I still miss going to pubs and having friends over, but it's not unbearable. We've started figuring out tabletop similator. It's not as fun, but it works.

I'm in the best shape I've been in the last 15 years since I can run as much as I want. Also have a lot more time since I only work 2 days a week. However not being able to do my job "for real" is starting to get to me a bit. Financially we have no issues. My wife works full time still so no risk of getting on each others nerves.
So except for worrying about the general state of society and the world it's fine.
