Man just such an effectively suggestive setup. I mean if you are a fan of the Rudy/Trump "family" I guess it's painful to watch, but otherwise hilarious.
Showing just enough to be fairly certain where this is going yet not enough to compromise and miss the satirical mark behind it.
I mean how do you even get a guy like that in such a position, it's not like Rudy is a political neophyte lol.
I get vibes like we had in 2019 in Austria with "ibiza gate".

Sasha Baron Cohen is such a genius actor and manipulator (and from what I've heard, with really professional looking fake contacts and resumes) that I really dunno to what degree I can fault people for falling for him. I mean, a large part of his act is allowing for people's ugly true colors to shine, and that's him at his best, but in the less open and improvised sketches, I have the impression there's a non-insignificant amount of behind the scenes (or even taped) 'say or do this', that dictates some of the most idiotic behavior from some people. (Obviously, sometimes people are 'coerced' into doing stuff that can't be excused - Jason Spencer (worth watching if you have not ) didn't really have any viable defense for his behavior).
This sounds absolutely hilarious, and I find Guiliani despicable. It's a mean joke, but he passes the bar for being an appropriate target. However, can I really fault the old pathetic man for some period of irrationality after a hot presumed 25 year old is clearly instigating flirting with him? Obviously he should have the self-awareness to understand that something is up, but I think it's veeeery common for older men to feel flattered to the point where they stop thinking rationally when a situation like this arises.
|
I'll take it as entertainment. Yeah Rudy is a sketchy character, but Sasha is a master of coercion, and the presentation doesn't really make it better. If you've seen the trailer, a bunch of people are put into pretty impossible situations. Even the fake abortion clinic doctor (I might hate what he does, but being professional in that situation deserves props)
For anyone who hasn't seen it: + Show Spoiler +

Wait, did giuliani think the girl was 15? I did not get that from the guardian article. It's still very creepy that a 70 something year old is hitting on someone who looks like a teenager anyway. Ah, he didn't. The Guardian really didn't make that clear, as she is apparently continually referred to as being 15 in the movie. The Daily Beast's review is much more responsible : Show nested quote + Posing as a conservative journalist in the mold of Tomi Lahren—albeit with a strong eastern European accent—Tutar sits down with Giuliani in a Manhattan hotel suite for an “interview” in which she mostly flatters him into creepily flirting with her. “I’ll relax you, you want me to ask you a question?” Giuliani says as she giggles in response. After blaming China for the coronavirus, he agrees to “eat a bat” with his interviewer, who repeatedly touches his knee to egg him on.
Baron Cohen first interrupts the interview dressed as a sound engineer with a large boom mic, but leaves before it’s over. At that point, Tutar offers to “have a drink in the bedroom” with Giuliani, who happily obliges.
On what appear to be hidden cameras, we see Giuliani remove her microphone and ask for her phone number and address as he sits down on the bed. He starts patting her backside as she removes the microphone from his pants. Giuliani then lies down on the bed and starts sticking his hands down his pants in a seemingly suggestive manner.
But before anything more can happen, Borat bursts into the room and shouts, “Put down your chram!”—his preferred word for penis. “She’s 15! She’s too old for you!”
The startled Giuliani, who had no reason to believe his interviewer was underage, sits up abruptly and gets out of there as fast as he can. “Rudy, Trump will be disappoint! You are leaving hotel without golden shower!” Borat yells after him.
After that, the film concludes with one more big and hilarious reveal that we won’t be spoiling here.
https://www.thedailybeast.com/how-rudy-giuliani-got-caught-red-handed-with-borats-daughter?via=twitter_page I'm just so, so surprised the The Guardian can't follow through on the "apparently touching his genitals" lead for the story. Sorry for the sarcasm.
Sasha Baron Cohen does such a good job getting everybody.

Like I thought his whole thing was that he was this big alpha man. I think the Trump campaign was ahead of the curve regarding data analytics in 2016. They were right to say polls were wrong. Different story in 2020. 2016 was not good for public confidence in polling. They likely spent the last 4 years figuring out how things have changed and how to improve. If Trump's data looks similar to everyone else's, he appears to not be well positioned right now. His life will be flat out miserable if he loses in 2020. This isn't just a fight for power, its a fight for a way of life.
Ya that is what it must be, realizing you are almost a billion dollars in debt and are going to have a ton of people coming after you must suck. His joke that he is leaving if loses does not sound like a joke no more. Where does he go though Russia

Fox now reporting that the Hunter biden laptop is part of a money laundering investigation by the FBI. Now that is interesting. Wonder who the "big guy" is?

Does suggest there's at least something to the story, though it doesn't indicate what they're investigating exactly. Could be Hunter, could be someone else.

I would hope that the agency has left behind the type of far fetched theories it indulged in with the collusion investigation. Money laundering is much more run of the mill than "collusion" and "national security" also.

Not sure what Doodsmack will think of this one, as it implicates no one on either side of the US. WaPo is reporting that Iran faked emails from proudboys that threatened democrats who voted against Trump.
“You will vote for Trump on Election Day or we will come after you,” the emails said. “Change your party affiliation to Republican to let us know you received our message and will comply. We will know which candidate you voted for. I would take this seriously if I were you.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2020/10/20/proud-boys-emails-florida/

The DNI is also reporting that Russia and Iran have voter registration info that they think will be used to interfere in the election. Per AP:
The officials also said Iran and Russia had obtained voter registration data, though such data is considered easily, publicly accessible. Tehran used the information to send out the spoofed emails, which were sent to voters in states including Pennsylvania and Florida.
Ratcliffe said the spoofed emails were intended to hurt Trump, though he did not elaborate on how. An intelligence assessment released in August said: “Iran seeks to undermine U.S. democratic institutions, President Trump, and to divide the country in advance of the 2020 elections. Iran’s efforts along these lines probably will focus on online influence, such as spreading disinformation on social media and recirculating anti-U.S. content.”
Trump, speaking at a rally in North Carolina, made no reference to the press conference but repeated a familiar campaign assertion that Iran is opposed to his reelection. He promised that if he wins another term he will swiftly reach a new accord with Iran over its nuclear program.
“Iran doesn’t want to let me win. China doesn’t want to let me win,” Trump said. “The first call I’ll get after we win, the first call I’ll get will be from Iran saying let’s make a deal.” https://apnews.com/article/donald-trump-florida-elections-voting-2020-voting-2124f257f89649630e123952df34b186

Not at all what I said. The collusion investigation was pretty extraordinary and I dont think it will be repeated because people don't trust them to handle something like that anymore.

I do find it funny that a bunch of journalists can now be accused of amplifying foreign disinformation (i mean besides the whole steele dossier saga) because of the proud boys story.
|
Maddow's not amplifying any disinfo in the first one, just questioning Ratcliffe's statement about motives, as it clashes with the known facts (there definitely could be more that is held back), and he was barely able to be confirmed due to questions of his being partisan.
The second one, well, it's what we knew at the time. Actual journalists (of which Maddow is not: she's the tv equivalent of an op-ed writer, basically, same as Tucker Carlson or Sean Hannity) will correct the story when they get new info. Do we need to go drag everyone who hasn't retracted the Seth Rich story through the mud again?

Maddow and all the others were acting as unwitting Iranian assets.

The guardian corrected the story, it doesn't say anything about initiating sexual contact any more. I guess Twitter fooled them too.

Seems fair turnabout, the entire Republican Party are unwitting Russian assets at the minute.

Wouldn't it be fun to see Doomsmack and other's reaction if Biden encouraged Iran to hack Trump for dirt and had Hunter organize a meeting with Iranian officials to see what they have?
Totally certain he would be ok with that.
