Yet another Desktop Tower Defense game

Wasted a couple hours of this. Has four levels of difficulty, as well as three "fun" levels. Enemies vary a little, ie Spawns split into two once you kill them, Immune creeps are immune to stun and frost, and bosses with loads of hp.

easiest way to win is just upgrade the slow-shooters, and some spirally guys for the flyers. all in all it's a dumb game

Click on the tower and hit upgrade. The cost is listed, if you can't afford it the button won't appear. The squirt tower is a must-have. Don't get a couple, start with one well placed tower. The final upgrade gives +400% damage, so it's better than having a few upgraded (not fully) towers.

I got like 5200ish on normal then didn't want to play anymore because it's too time consuming =[. One of the things I stumbled upon that seemed pretty useful was filtering in both creep sides to the same choke, where they would be frozen in one big clump, where one of my dart towers would just pound on dealing like thousands of damage in overall damage dealt. That only lets you blaze past the easy groups though, I had trouble with flying and bosses until I got some typhoon towers which are end game rape.

Anyone use bash towers? Seems like it was a bit too expensive for it's worth.

I might try it out again tomorrow.

1. Make a maze
The idea being the maze is to keep the units moving along as long as possible, making an indirect path to their goal. This gives your towers more chances to attack before being passed. The best way to do this would be to base your maze around one of your squirt towers, so that it can get multiple hits while the units are on multiple paths. This ensures maximum damage. Use dart towers (cheapest tower) to make the maze, as they're affordable and easy to "mass up on", and they're very useful in the first few levels, as well as the flying levels.

2. Don't overload
One of the common problems I ran into was that I had two sets of enemies coming at once. The reason for this was that I had such a huge maze with all my damage being dealt in the middle. This meant that the units would survive until they got to the middle, and the next set would sometimes come out while the first is still alive. Usually this isn't a problem, but with the Flying level being right after the Spawn, it proved to be a problem.

So...make sure you have at least one fully upgraded squirt tower near the main entrance of your maze.

3. Range
Plan out where your squirt towers will go. You can do this after you initially set up your maze (easiest, since you can sell an old dart tower and replace it). Make sure it can hit as many unit paths as possible, and have one in an area that chokes the units (think starcraft). The final squirt tower upgrade (Typhoon Tower) has more range than the ones that proceed it, so factor that in. Don't place a squirt tower too close to the sides because you don't want to waste range.

4. Flying Levels
One problem I had was that my maze started in the top left corner, which meant I had next to no towers in the middle/further in. This meant that flying units could easily pass by without taking much damage. Losing so many lives so early in will hurt you in the end, so, try to build closer to the center at the beginning.

5. Final Placement (addendum)
Try to keep as many squirt towers near the middle of your maze as you can. This ensures an even distribution of damage and focused attacks on single units. This also means that when flying units pass, both sets will be hit by your strongest towers.

6. Frost Towers
Don't waste too much on these. I would suggest two frost towers maximum. Place them in areas where the most units will pass, before they come into range of your squirt towers. The idea is to slow them before they start taking damage, assuring maximum contact. This integrates well if you have all your squirt towers in one area.

7. Spawn Units
When you kill a spawn, it'll split into two. Other than the initial unit (the big one), no gold is awarded for kills. A problem with these monsters is that if the path in your maze is too skinny, when a unit splits it might pass THROUGH a wall. What I do is I make thin paths at the beginning, so that if they pass through a wall, it's generally one they already cleared, pushing them back to the beginning of the maze. After that, make wider paths so they don't skip most of your defense.

This is one of the best TD games out there, I've found. I played mostly the first version, without the bash tower, so I haven't figured out if that one is worth it yet.

Ares, great post with tips for newer players, it's really helpful. If you want to get higher scores however, you will have to send multiple waves in as fast as possible after each other, since each wave you send in with "send next level" awards you bonus points. So, if you get really good, you just send in all the ground levels, and only have to wait for the air levels.
You're probably wondering though, how do you kill 5 waves at once? That's where a great trick comes in.... juggling. What's juggling, you ask? Juggling is making 2 paths, and sealing off one. When the group gets almost to the end of the first path, sell the tower blocking the 2nd path, and seal off the first path. Tadaa, group has to move all the way back through the maze to the exit on the other side now. As you can't do this with air levels, obviously, you can't send those in too fast after each other.

Now that selling towers actually takes increasingly longer time though, I'm not sure if this still works, I haven't tested yet how long selling takes when you do it a lot, but it can't be too bad, since juggling is the only way you could get a highscore in the first version.

I've tried that method and it's not too reliable when you've got split units. The sell time later on is painfully long and timing it would be difficult for any level except the group level.

It looks so cool when 4 bash tower hits and kill like 1232321 in 2 hits.
Problem is that boss are so hard to kill with bash...

I think if we can find a way to stack everything perfectly then forst, then bash. Maybe. Along w/ a missile tower.

You really only want towers that can hit everything. Bash towers can only hit ground, and their range can be annoying.

My path was almost identical. but i had dart and swarm. I guess that's what made it worse.

Bash Tower is fun to use; its like an ICBM (upg Dart) with Stun and no range, but its way expensive to be useful.

edit: I doubt people get anti-air (Swarm Tower), so for the curious, the final upgrade for that is the Storm Tower, 480 dmg, 75 range, fast attack, fires 4 missiles with splash.

I don't get it this game didn't pick up as well as the previous tower D games yet this one is best so far. Maybe they just got tired.

I have upgraded pellet there because at the end I had a huge surplus of money which I coulda got another fully upgraded typhoon w/ (but the upgrade times are so annoyingly long, I guess that just makes it so timing is a more important factor?). But yeah I always wondered if upgraded pellets are worth it, since it seems everyone just skips them.

hmm just tried it, i had two ways to each, separated by a long walk in between (so like left->right had 2 paths to take, and top->down had 2 paths)
so once they'd go down one path, i'd block it, they'd go back up, and go down the other path
i'd sell the previos tower that blocked, and block this path.
forgot about air though lol

Pellet -> (200) Sniper Tower, 400 dmg, 180 range, very slow attack
Squirt -> (450) Typhoon Tower, 320 dmg, 90 range, fast attack
Dart -> (400) ICBM Tower, 256 dmg, 140 range, very slow attack
Swarm -> (640) Storm Tower, 480 dmg, 75 range, fast attack, fires 4 missiles with splash.
Frost -> (200) Blizzard Tower, 40 dmg, 75 range, slow attack, slow and splash
Bash -> (745) Quake Tower, 320 dmg, 40 range, slow attack, 20% stun


Bash and Dart are very fun to use, simply because of the splash damage. Frost is relatively cheap to upgrade. Squirt seems to be most effective overall.

edit: prices are in ( ), and calculated from lvl 5 values + final upgrade cost.

The sniper towers can hit shit from across the screen, though, which makes them pretty much good from anywhere on the map.

8794 at level 76. Frick... flyers suck. There wasn't much I could do. The main problem becomes upgrading speed. i think every leak was a flyer of sorts, except when those gay swarms split and jump your defense lines.

I don't really see how you can get pass 80 unless you keep using the blocking method. The problem is really the flyers, they force you to upgrade swarm which is useless for everything else.
