Here it is, 3 years after the situation repaired; and you seem to be the only person on the internet who has fixed a problem similar to the one I'm having. Myself and a few friends are trying to get D2 to work over Ad-Hoc and are failing at it. We connect to the network, find our respective IPs through ipconfig, ping each other successfully. One of us then hosts a game, everyone tries to connect and it fails. I'm not a total network moron but I'm at my wits end with this. Also, just to make it clear we have no access to the internet when we plan to play this over ad-hoc, and when we do we use Hamachi successfully. EDIT: Problem resolved, and as a guard against someone like me failing at this later I will actually post the fix: If you are in win7/Vista and connected to an adhoc network chances are the network is registered as a "public" network. Any amount of firewall removing will not let D2 play over TCP/IP if the network is public. You have to change it to a Home network. To do this, in 7 at least, you have to go to the homegroup option in "Network connections and Shareing" window and it will ask you to specify the network type. Select home and then close the homegroup window. The "Unidentified network" name will remain but the icon for the network will be a house image. It seems that in public mode Win7/Vista blocks communications from none identified computer (like the winXP machine i was trying to play with). I hope this helps someone, sometime. | ||
