edit: Save or kill the animals doesnt matter anymore. The optional boss will be done, so it will not be a fast time anyways. But nice to see that there is still the greed for either of the positions.

No, there will be no optional boss in the any % route. SSRTA is a separate race (starts at the ship on Zebes, ends after collecting the Super Missiles after Spore Spawn) that will be done after the main one. As we enter the Metroid block, I would like to make a humble plea to the TL community: please help kill the animals! The runners occupy four of the top six times for the any % category (see: http://deertier.com/RealTime.aspx), and it could be anybody's race. All of them have been practicing a ton, and are at the top of their game. I wouldn't be at all surprised if one or two of the runners managed to get a sub-45 in the run... but that's definitely not happening if they have to spend 30 seconds to save the animals! Kill them all!

I wish they were saying it correctly. Not everyone has played Super Metroid and knows what they mean. Also, if you just casually tune in for the first time - which is a great number of people actually - you may notice that the speedrunners desire to "kill the animals" and that might put you off. So, because they currently run Metroid Prime and Super Metroid, let's vote which game do you like more.

Considering one of the options is opening the door, taunting them, and leaving, I think killing the animals has a special kind of satisfaction that letting them die just doesn't.
