I fucking love Madeon...what's he trying to say here? A bunch of Daft Punk's music uses samples from older obscure songs; I don't find it difficult to believe that they'd adapt something to play with real instruments as well.

From Twitter:
About the Daft Punk album, has anyone else noticed the relationship between Touch and Get Lucky (same tempo, key and chord progression) ?

Also I'm not that surprised by the similarities between Touch and Get Lucky. The whole album flows musically and thematically. If you watch Chilly's episode of the collaborator series, he mentions using a song or piece of a song to bridge from the previous theme/key to the new song (it's the intro section of Within, which he plays in the episode). Touch and Get Lucky naturally connect, thematically. I'm not sure what Madeon is getting at.
So you just come into a Daft Punk thread to bash on people who like them?
Everyone who makes music samples others, period. And several much worse than DP.
I like daft punk, I just can't stand when people say stuff like how creative and original they are. Speeding up an obscure disco song isn't creative, it's called being a DJ.

You call us fanboys and link a video explaining how they ripped off songs. That's definitely bashing or attempting to insult people who like them. Whose your favorite artist? Pretty sure I could find evidence that they too ripped off a couple songs with their stuff too. Everyone does it, it's the name of the game. There's also only so many catchy rhythms, it's bound to get copied or changed to create something new.
Just bought the album. Really digging it. Favourite songs are "Touch" (more specifically, around 5:45 and on) and "Contact". "Motherboard" takes a close third. I don't buy a lot of music (I just wait for it to be on Rdio) but this seems like money well spent. It will get a lot of play in my car.
I don't know if it is just me but it seems like the sound quality is so much better than the preview was.

I mainly listen to metal. I have a lot of really great albums, and some songs on those probably have riffs on them that were ripped off/heavily inspired by others.
In classical music, composers did this all the time. However, back in the day, that was considered a hommage or a playful reference, not "ripping off an artist".
The fact that Daft Punk sampled parts of old, obscure disco songs doesn't take away from how good this album really is.
I like the album, dont get me wrong, but I'm with others wondering what everyone is on about them being so creative and whatever. (to be clear, there's a lot of hype around this album even in my own social circles, let alone the rest of the net) It sounds a lot like the kind of music my mom would always play in the car (disco, oldies, etc), which is again good music, I just dont see the big deal.
It's odd that people hear the funk/boogie feel of the album and just equate it to being derivative or narrow. I also highly doubt Madeon would be criticizing Daft Punk for having a song that sounded similar to another one of their own. That would open him up to (negative) criticism that his own songs all sound very, very similar to one another.
On the topic of Madeon, it was merely something he noticed, and found interesting. Other twitter posts are praising the album, obviously would not insult daft punk.
On the topic of the album, I am one of those who was not blown away after the first listen, but who now loves it. I think I just expected Discovery or something, but I am now glad that the album is what it is. To be perfectly honest it has gotten to the stage where I am surprised that people dislike it. But again, that probably boils down to expectations
