Is it because the album is popular, and people want to put them (and many other artists) on blast for "copying" now? There are lots of huge names in EDM right now that sample heavily and I haven't heard any outcry.

but to take the whole track as a sample change one or two things up - thats not a new track in electronic music we call this an edit or a remix.

which can only speak to better album cohesion as far as I'm concerned. Earlier Tweet: I feel so full and empty. This album is everything i wanted to hear. It's also so much of what i wanted to make.

Madeon's comment wasn't criticism, it was an observation of an interesting/not immediately obvious parallel between two neighboring tracks in an album, which can only speak to better album cohesion as far as I'm concerned. Earlier Tweet: I fully agree with your thoughts about Madeon's video/comment (my suspicions as well). It's thematic cohesion, I like it. I think the sampling thing cropped up when someone posted the "before and after" style YouTube videos of their past works / samples.

But the whole vibe of the song is exactly the same. And I wouldn't have a problem with it if at least the public knows that they didn't just make these songs from scatch (and therefore are brilliant, which is the general consensus). If George Duke would re-release this song as a 2013 remix people would probably bash it, now it's suddenly great cos these guys wear helmets. I'm sorry to insult you but you are an idiot if you think Duke can re-release his album remix and have it compared to the success that Daft Punk had with the sample that they took from his song. You are crediting Daft Punks success on the song due to their helmets? what? It is also idiotic to imply that Daft Punk its trying to act as if they made all songs from scratch. Just because its the general consensus may think that, it doesnt mean they are guilty in trying secretly sample music. Most people are some what educated in what they listen to and know that maybe about 80% of songs today are inspired by old songs or samples and about 90% of EDM is based of samples of other music. It's also even more idiotic to say that " the entire vibe is the same " from the song because of a sample. The additions they made into the song change it completely, its almost to say "hey, you enjoy DP? Listen to the song they sampled it from its just as good !" which is completely wrong. The only way you can say its giving you the same vibe is if you are being ignorant to the entire song.

Yes the whole album is meant to be listened as a whole. Check out the Chilly Gonzales vid from The Creators Project, he explains things about progression, how the piano part at the beginning of Within is made to make transition between the first 3 songs (same chord) and Within, etc.

Not that Daft Punk has ever been amazing, but this is IMO far worse than their old stuff. It's not that it's "bad" per se, but it's not good and it's not interesting. The album is just... boring to listen to. I'm quite confident if it wasn't Daft Punk, it would have been ignored and forgotten. Music tastes are subjective. Move along...

That's an example of some awesome shit you can do with samples, how you can manipulate them in such a way that they become their own instrument. The video I posted was an example of some lame shit you can do with samples.
