I might also remind the people here that the most decorated and hard-working olympian in all of history is a well-known supporter and user of MJ. How would legalizing weed effect children? It would of course be regulated and taxed like alcohol. A drug dealer doesn't give a fuck if you're 14, but hopefully a guy in a store does. I mean, even in nazi-Sweden it's not hard to get hold of some weed. And all the money currently going to the illegal importers and growers would now be going to the state or to the legal growers who pay taxes. Currently the weed-money is spent on funding actual crime.

-No glorification, no advertisement.
-No industrialisation. (keep tobacco and pharma companies out!)
-Educate people. (as with everything, abuse is bad for you m'kay)
Legal (strictly over 18):
-Pharmacies or specialised dispensories are allowed to sell it.
-They are supplied by registered (preferably local) growers. No import/export.
-Allowance to grow plants in a reasonable amount at home.
Punishment for:
-Consumption in public. (minor fee)
-Supplying minors. (high fee)
-DUI.

Shouldn't all drugs be legal? You don't stop a crack head from buying crack. So, why bother even making illegal? Sure there should be DUI charges and whatnot along with drug use, but locking up someone who smokes crack doesn't do anybody any good. Now, to take it back a step, if you legalize weed and even other drugs you put a huge damper in almost every criminal organization because most of those organizations make their money off of drug sales. Gangs, Cartels, Mafias(lesser extent now) would all have to find other ways to make money which are just as profitable (oh wait there aren't any) and then they have no money and cease to have a reason to exist. If you just wanted to take the first step, weed legalization, it would not be the worst thing, in countries where it is legal or tolerated, there doesn't seem to be any issue with the general population having access to marijuana. I do know people who are addicted to marijuana, but I also know alcoholics, and coke heads, and I cannot argue that marijuana dampers their quality of life more or less than other drugs. In the end though I think our government likes to keep it illegal, so they can take drug money, which is more than what they would receive if they were to tax the end product through legalization.

On topic: I think it should be made legal but only for treatment of certain diseases/problems. There are some people out there that have some kind of problem that is really severe and affecting their everyday lives, and only marijuana can cure it. Should those people have to suffer because there are some bastards out there that try to sell it to minors and/or are completely hooked on it? No. Look at alcohol, and cigarettes. Those are perfectly legal, but there are people out there that are trying to sell it to minors and are completely hooked on them. In my opinion, Marijuana should be legalized and treated like cigarettes, only to a higher crackdown.
