I've used clockwork since g1 and thats what I am using now. I've read of some new recoveries but not sure how good they are (1 is supposed to use touch screen and be pretty sick overall, but I forgot the name ). Also, as far as ROMs from xda, I've used AOKP which i loved to death but had to drop because I like the S- programs and motion features samsung comes with (im sure there is a way to flash them manually though which is what i might do later). Now I am on Free GS3 because it includes those features and it's working great as well; 0 issues with either so far on T-mo. If you never tried AOKP you should certainly check it out, its a good alternative to CM Roms. And most ROMs that are out atm seem stable enough to be a large improvement over stock. Also for those that root their phones and have not done so yet, I strongly recommend trying different LCD Density settings over default 320 (I use 270 atm, also be careful about going below 241 because then ICS might think you are using a tablet). You can do it manually by changing the setting in build.prop, or use tools like Rom Toolkit Lite. Lets you put all that real estate to more use. You might have an issue with market not showing all apps as compatible, but there is an easy fix for that as well. I think they're approximately as good.... no wait, kexec was basically an exploit, I think. CWR is significantly better so stick with that. With kexec you have to boot your phone a second time in order to get into the ROM. But haha I actually haven't flashed anything on my gs3 yet :X
I'm waiting for CM10 or AOPK when it adopts Jelly Bean before I try that. If I recall correctly, the CM guys said that they would be including features from the gs3 in cyanogenmod, so I'm looking forward to that if it's true. Basically I'm too lazy to reorganize everything after reflashing, so I'm waiting until a stable version CM10 for the vzw gs3 comes out
Right now the default LCD density setting is fine for me, but I might lower it just a tad. I have pretty bad eyes anyway so having all the letters as big as they are is alright for now >.< cool stuff though :D

Sweet I'm glad I wont be compelled to switch to kexec:D I rooted and flashed a ROM within an hour of getting the phone cause i hate the t-mobile bloatware:D My wife's wasn't rooted and I think it is a big improvement but there's nothing wrong with waiting till CM10. Getting titanium back up & backing up your launcher settings can make switching Roms painless if you're concerned about restoring your setup

Ohhh right, I was wondering how you were able to root. I forgot the vzw version was essentially the only dopey one ;__;
And ah you're right actually haha. I'm too used to my Droid X and how i was unable to restore everything for a while. I'll wait until CM10 anyway, but yeah it's very easy to switch indeed~

CM10 is available already, I believe they've even started nighties already for the s3. At this point the only feature it really misses out on from jelly bean is project butter, which will need to wait until Samsung releases an official rom with it (or a leak, of course).

Yeah 90% of the reason for my wanting Jelly Bean is just for project butter lol :S
Also, AOKP's first JB build going to come out tonight most likely as soon as they get the build bot to work keke http://aokp.co/index.php/releases/_/jellybean-build-1-r28 a lot of people will vouch for this ROM, it has some fantastic support and features

By the way, my mum just got an S3 and I'm wondering if there is anyway to remove some of the power toggles in the notification bar to prevent mishaps from happening. I'm avoiding anything that breaks the warranty since it's my mum's phone and I'm not around for most of the year to help her, else I'd happily flash another ROM that is more customisable to do so.

Yeah unfortunately I don't think you can do that without rooting :/
You could try to explain what each of them do and/or write it all down since most of it is pretty straightforward.

Yeah that's what I did, but it would've been nicer to simply get rid of them. Oh well.

Project Butter is awesome. I don't have a GS3 but got a Nexus S. I compiled AOSP myself and flashed it on the phone and gotta tell you guys...Project Butter is AWESOME...even on the Nexus S which is single core 512MB Ram.

Curse you for teasing me ;__;
I want project butter really badly but Samsung and firmware updates is...well, their track record is definitely not the best on that one. Compound it with the fact that Verizon is an abnormally greedy pig and an update could be a long time coming. Probably will have to flash a ROM, but I've heard that unless Samsung releases a build for SGS3, devs can't just apply it to the phone on their own so we have to wait until that happens anyway.
I'm fairly optimistic that Samsung will release a Jelly Bean build though since the SGS3 is pretty big, but my phone is a verizon variant so. Hoping the devs can get this to work :<

just got the s2 upgrade from my old samsung moment (couldnt really justify the extra cost for the s3 since i am poor) and if s3 is anywhere like s2 i have to say i was mightily impressed, everything about it is just awesome- fast response time on screen, big big screen, good resolution and the internet is so much better with 4g compared to my old 3g phone- gonna be a samsung smartphone user for life i think.

Samsung have said they are working on the S3 first and should have JB done for the S3 by end of September. Rumours say the same for the S2.

CM10 and AOKP will have stable jelly bean well before Verizon does.

I work for a cellphone repair company... A quick heads' up if you're thinking of purchasing:
I don't think I've ever seen a phone as fragile as this one, definitely quite a bit more breakable than an iPhone 4 when it comes to the screen, and really, the only phone that will break easier than it is probably the Galaxy Nexus. Repairing that phone is also super expensive, do get a nice case, save yourself the trouble.

ha, that makes me happy, having shelled out ~70 Euro extra for 2 years of full cover insurance

The issue here is that the verizon variant of the s3, like all NA variant has a dual core s4 processor that is distinct from the international version. However I just realized that the T-Mobile version appears to be the same as all the other versions....but I've seen roms released.with att and T-Mobile labels specifically so I'm wary about whether I will be able to flash a rom whose drivers were ripped from a variant of a different carrier. Since verizon is cdma, for one, data may not work unless there is a verizon release. I'm no expert so I'm not completely sure, but I have a feeling that cm10 or aokp may not have a version compatible with the verizon variant, even though I now realize that the hardware at least is mostly the same.

Looks like Samsung is about to take it in the ass. Apple has won its patent infringement suit. We'll see what relief Apple gets, but Apple did request that the Court prohibit Samsung from selling its most popular phones in the US.
EDIT: Basically, if you want an S3, you may want to go get one now before they're pulled from market.
