I'm rooted already and with kexec I'm able to flash roms. However, I'm waiting for a stable release of CM10 for the verizon sgs3 before I do anything in terms of roms. Overall fantastic device and pretty nice battery life even on 4G. If you download an app called "phone info" from the play store, it's also possible to turn off 4G and use 3G. On 3G you're also able to place calls and browse the internet at the same time lol, pretty good. Other than that....oh there's also the annoying wifi notification, which may be turned off by getting a SQLite editor (e.g. SQLite editor on the play store lol), and setting the wifi notification to 0 by going through settings. If anyone would like to know exactly how to do it, I can just link you the articles ^^ .. so NOW with this new phone you actually have to download an application if you want to switch from 3G and 4G...? Errr
4G/LTE and 3G are not the same technology. The (Verizon) S3 will use 4G by default if it's available. For people in weak or non existent 4G areas they may wish to turn off 4G capability to conserve battery life. It'd be nice if preferred network came with the phone, but it doesn't. I don't have any major complaint about a FREE app that does it, though.

I just got my S3 a week ago, does anyone else's heat up pretty easily when you are doing intensive stuff like watching streams?

Samsung is the only way to go if the quality and features of the phone come first before being a hipster or caring about what other people think about you Samsung doesn't sync with iCloud, iPhones do. That's the only reason I need to stick with iPhone.
That's the evil empire right there. Restricting access to iCloud so you're forced to use the iPhone? If Apple didn't care so much about controlling their customers, they would open the iCloud to Android phones through an app.

Apple is surely the evil empire, but that'll throw the thread off topic .
I wish the Verizon JB roms were stable enough to use these days.

my battery life sucks

I have pretty baller battery life. Do you try using power save when you're not using your phone very actively?

I got my Galaxy S2 around this time a year ago. I'm considering getting a Galaxy Note 2, whenever that comes out. Would it be worth replacing my S2 for it?

The Note 2 will be fantastic for sure, of course. However the first thing that might be off putting is how freaking big it is though--so be warned...it's a lot bigger than your S2.

There's no heat vent or cooling system or anything, and with the kind of speeds we're hitting now, your phone is bound to get hot.

When people ask whether it's worth replacing their S2 for anything, I almost automatically say no. The S2 is still an amazing phone in its own right and none of the newer current phones have any super new features that the S2 doesn't have.
That said, if you're aiming for the Note 2, you probably have a special reason for wanting such a large screen, in which case it's worth it. If on the other hand you're simply getting the Note 2 for the hardware improvements, then no it's not worth it.

Well, I don't really have the money to blow on the Note 2. Also, I'm pretty content with my S2 so far, and while I would love to have a bigger screen, I'm not going to die if I don't have it.
Maybe when the Note 3 comes out in 2014 I'll consider getting something new.

Yeah that's fine. You might have to replace your battery mid 2013ish depending on much use you put it through, but if you don't want to game or anything like that, then the S2 is an extremely solid device.
Honestly the improvements (quad core, blahblahblah ARM A15, etc) are there for marketing purposes or for gaming. The kind of power that new devices offer will just rape the battery. Hardware is advancing much more quickly than is software. There's the big.LITTLE idea which may or may not work, but in a nutshell the S2 should be sufficient unless you want to game. With PCs there's image processing and CAD and stuff but you're not going to be doing much of that on a mobile phone. I just upgraded because my little droid x was on the verge of dying.

Looks really neat, but a few of my co-workers has had some problems with it, but that may be due to pre-ordered copies/first batch were bad. For example, in a telephone call, the reciever couldn't hear the caller, etc... but that's prolly some rare manufacture problem.

My battery life is pretty solid overall. There must be something running in the background that has been draining the battery for you guys. The biggest drain on the battery is the display. If you have 100% display on all day, then you're most likely going to see much shorter battery life. Plus 100% brightness is absurdly bright too. I have mine at 25-50% max indoors and occasionally bump it up when I'm outside during the day.
I absolutely love the S3. At first, the size was a bit overwhelming, but now that I got used to it, an iPhone screen looks ridiculously small. I can't imagine using anything with a screen less than 4.3" now. The Note 2 is supposed to have a 5.3" screen. Honestly, that sounds freakin awesome haha. Most people that have a Note have told me that they got used to the size and actually really enjoy the phone/tablet form of it. I guess Samsung is testing just how far they can go before it's just too big.

My sister just got the s3 today for 580 cash. I myself got an xperia pro for 2 year contract no data etc. From what I see the phone is just like any other the phone. The interface is abit neater, comes with android icecream 4.0 preinstalled (mine had gingerbread 2.3, can upgrade but some bugs I think). Definetly has a larger screen prob better cam/speakers etc. It felt really weird cuase it was such a big phone but it was ..too thin. No idea how to put that in your pocket >_>. Not sure my sis blowing almost 600 compared to me for almost a just as good phone at 30 is worth it with the same plan and such

Well it's 600 because she bought it with no plan. Is there a particular reason she did that?

She should probably get a case for it then; I thought it was a bit too thin too. I mean I got used to it eventually but it's still safer to get a case. The display shatters surprisingly easily despite having Gorilla Glass 2. I got an incipio dual shine pro case (that the name iirc <_<) and it's pretty nice
I think the note is probably as big as it gets lol, any bigger and you really are going into tablet territory (a lot of popular tablets are at 7 inches :X).

Aerisky noticed in your previous post you said you rooted and install roms with kexec? Is that better than CWR? I've used clockwork since g1 and thats what I am using now. I've read of some new recoveries but not sure how good they are (1 is supposed to use touch screen and be pretty sick overall, but I forgot the name ). Also, as far as ROMs from xda, I've used AOKP which i loved to death but had to drop because I like the S- programs and motion features samsung comes with (im sure there is a way to flash them manually though which is what i might do later). Now I am on Free GS3 because it includes those features and it's working great as well; 0 issues with either so far on T-mo. If you never tried AOKP you should certainly check it out, its a good alternative to CM Roms. And most ROMs that are out atm seem stable enough to be a large improvement over stock.
Also for those that root their phones and have not done so yet, I strongly recommend trying different LCD Density settings over default 320 (I use 270 atm, also be careful about going below 241 because then ICS might think you are using a tablet). You can do it manually by changing the setting in build.prop, or use tools like Rom Toolkit Lite. Lets you put all that real estate to more use. You might have an issue with market not showing all apps as compatible, but there is an easy fix for that as well.

I have seen deals where the S3 goes for 100-150. So that imo is worth getting over the xperia
