YOU can create a new product. YOU can do pursue your heart's desire like everyone else before you. And just like them the one thing you are guarrenteed is the chance to do it for yourself unimpeded. I think that's fine - except there's quite a lot that impede upon the lower classes' ability to rise amongst the ranks. And I do think the government, over time, has done a lot to remove those impediments.

I feel like ryan is clearly smarter, but biden relates to the people better, especially the seniors who always turn out to vote. So the democrats probably got the better of this one, but not by much. When you have a debate on a national scale in the US, saying things like "Malarky! Folks, who you gonna trust?" *Grin* are very successful.

He was extremely rude, and laughing is not something I want from a leader. Ryan appeared 'unprepared'. Hard to judge what he was saying with all the intrerruptions. It was clear though that Biden was trying to appeal to the base While Ryan went after the much more needed 'independent' vote.

I really wish they'd have a social issues debate for the people like me... who cares about the economy :< Yeah, I would definitely like to hear more social issues like the death penalty, gay marriage, etc. The economy is just subject to them saying A claims X about B's plan, B says A is wrong, and his plan is Y and that A's plan is really X. Every. Fucking. Time. But I suppose I don't like either set of candidates, so I won't be happy regardless.

This in no way shape or form has anything to do with having a fair shot. If one child has a 99% chance to succeed and another has .000001% chance to succeed due to family or genetics, you can't honestly call these chances "fair" by any definition, even though both children technically have the opportunity to succeed.

Overall, thought the debate was interesting. Thread's still too active to figure out y'all we're arguing whether or not everyone has an equal chance to succeed, though.

Yes, he had a really rough set of circumstances to deal with, but I still expected more. I agree. Then again, I've always agreed with Democrats that Ryan was mostly a fraud pretending to be good at policy so I didn't expect him to do well at all.

But it's not a "fair shot" if some people have a better shot and easier time than others, is it? Or at least for most definitions of fair.

Or the finish line is an analogy for a job and I beat out some hardworking chap just because I have family connections in the company, no matter how hard he works I always win just due to the luck of being born where I was. Wealth propagates wealth, if you aren't born into a connected family it is getting harder and harder to get those good jobs since you don't have the connections that can pull strings.

Are you kidding? Ryan got way more time than Biden on practically everything. It's a good thing Biden was interrupting or he wouldn't have been able to say jack shit.
