Maybe some of you have heard of the biggest BBS in the world? Its called 2 Channel (2ch.net) and its a Japanese BBS where all users are anonymous and no user IDs are used. It caters to all levels of Japanese society and the number one source for news on just about every subject you can imagine
One day last year, an otaku nerd posted about saving a beautiful woman on a train from a drunk man. The girl mails him a thank you gift of very expensive Hermes brand tea cups. He posts about it on 2ch and the posters all give him advice on how to ask the girl out. They tell him what to say, how to clean himself up, how to dress, where to eat, ect and he keeps them updated of his progress all along the way
Eventually, over the 3 months that he posted there, his story became known as Densha Otoko and Hermes (The Train Man and Hermes) him being Densha Otoko and the girl being Hermes. The story ended with Densha and Hermes falling in love with eachother. His story became so precious to the users of 2ch that it became a book, a movie, a comic series, and an 11 episode drama series. Its probably the most famous love story in Japan right now
I am someone who is usually never interest in these kinds of things, but the drama series is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. It presents itself as funny at first, but it doesn't stay that way for long. I stayed up all night to finish it. My face was swollen from crying so much, its very touching
As someone who doesn't care for dramas and wasn't expecting much, I couldn't have been more surprised. I'm not much of a fan of Japanese things (Jpop, anime, manga, ect even though I do like some) but this is something I can say I am a real fan of
The series, comic, and movie are all floating around out there. Use your usual sources to find them. Go to d-addicts.com for subs and translations

how would you rate densha otoko among korean dramas? currently watching my name is kim sam soon and i barely have any time to watch it, so if you think it's better than it then i'll give it a shot.

I really wish I could tell you how it rates against other dramas, but I just don't know enough about them because I've never been interested in them before T_T
I don't even know why I gave Densha a chance, but now I'm glad that I did
Though, I can tell you that its been very highly praised among people who know alot about drama shows, and alot of people are calling it the best show of 2005
I would say to give it a chance, just because I was really impressed by it and because I've read nothing but good things about it

I don't think you can call 2ch "retarded" since its made up of so many different boards
Some are dumb, some actually provide useful content and news
Of course, you'd never really know unless you can understand Japanese, this is just from what I understand about it
Also, you can't deny the impact 2ch has had on Japanese society, both good and bad
There's also alot of imitators like 4-ch.net, 2chan.net, 3ch.jp, 1ch.net, ect, ect some of which are worse than others

Densha is way too luckly imo. If I were the girl, I would NEVER date a man like him (she's taller than he is, wtf?).
I watch it mainly for comedy.
