I saw that picture of one of the first aye-ayes bred in captivity on the BBC news website recently. It is weird.
According to the site they are the world's largest nocturnal mammals. Admittedly, I'd never heard of an aye-aye until I saw that picture, but you can now count me as a fan.
This thread is the one and only place on Teamliquid.net to discuss both the Pros and Cons of aye-ayes, techniques for capturing them, and other useful information.

that is one disgusting looking animal I like it

DUDE I KNOW
I saw a picture of one of these like a year ago and I've been scared shitless by them ever since. :D They have this really long evil looking finger to get insects and such out of trees, which is why they're called 'vingerdier' in Dutch.
So creepy. >_<

I just looked through google images, and it is real. O.O

So nvmplatypus, what if that "aye-aye" thing fought a platypus? Who would win? And why? Maybe we need a new liquibet on this?

Well platypuses have spiky things on their hind legs that are filled with venom so it seems fairly lopsided to me. However, as I'm a newbie to this aye-aye thing maybe some of the more informed aye-aye enthuisiasts on tl.net will have further information on their special powers and prove me wrong.

it definitely has the most fucking cool name ever

O.O yeah dude because google can never lie, right? not in this case Oh man, nobody click on that link. I'm gonna have nightmares. Remember that movie The Village? In that movie, I swear I thought the monsters ("the ones we do not speak of" ) were gonna look like this aye-aye shit. The babies look evil enough as it is, and yet the adults are worse. Those eyes and claws...

If you gave a drowned hyena to a reaally under-qualified taxidermist, that's what you'd get back.

No wonder Madagascar's starcraft team sucks so much. All the good players have been eaten by aye-ayes

... nvnplatypus, how could you? give gamers a weird creature like the aye-aye and now they want to be firebats and hunt zerglings in madagascar. If the island is a smouldering ruin within a year, im reporting you to WWF!
(lol) i wonder how many people will ask me what stone cold will do about it?!?
edit: i just saw my signature, sooo appropriate right about now.

8 months later, I'd begun to despair that TL.net's communal appreciation of the madagascarian aye-aye may have waned. It seems one poster here remembered this excellent member of the animal world and gave me a toy aye-aye for Christmas. Thanks!
I'm thinking it will need some minor modifications as it appears to be a "child friendly" item. Maybe some extremely sharp jagged claws glued to the toy will make it a realistic replica and ensure no one who plays with it will remain unharmed. The picture of it on my head below would no longer be possible after modifications as the claws would be embedded in my skull, so here it is while I still have the chance.
|
It's not that interesting. I've known about this animal since grade reception.

I think it's kinda cute to tell you the truth, hehe. My first reaction was cool, then that quickly turned into I wonder if it would make a good pet.
