DALLAS, Texas – Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum said Thursday that President Obama wants more young adults to go to college so they can undergo “indoctrination” to a secular world view.
In an hour-long interview with conservative television host Glenn Beck, Santorum also defended his record on abortion and his vote in favor of President George W. Bush’s No Child Left Behind education law.
On the president’s efforts to boost college attendance, Santorum said, “I understand why Barack Obama wants to send every kid to college, because of their indoctrination mills, absolutely … The indoctrination that is going on at the university level is a harm to our country.”
He claimed that “62 percent of kids who go into college with a faith commitment leave without it,” but declined to cite a source for the figure. And he floated the idea of requiring that universities that receive public funds have “intellectual diversity” on campus.
Criticized by his Republican rivals for supporting the Bush education law, which increased government-mandated testing in schools, Santorum has said he voted for it as “part of the (GOP) team.” He told Beck that as president, “I’ll be the team leader, not the team member.”
So the hole he digs himself in gaining the moderate/independant vote gets deeper and deeper... Gonna enjoy the interview if I find it on the interwebz - GB is always good for a laugh .
I wonder why all the Arab semites in the Middle East hate themselves.
Confusing a hundred year old territorial conflict as Abrahamic bullshit mythology is exactly the type of dogma that leaves both sides so entrenched. I mean, I seriously doubt the conflict will be resolved without much, much greater conflict in the future, but that doesn't mean it has anything to do with old religious hostilities. The people who cite Abrahamic contracts from either side are either insane or manipulating people with religion. If the British and French magically had the presence of mind to broker land fairly following WWI... well, there'd still probably be a dispute in the Middle East of some kind but it wouldn't be an Israeli/Palestinian one.

I have never been so disgusted in my life. It is actually pathetic that Santorum is even being considered as a presidential candiate. This country has gone to shit. How can someone who spouts such garbage facts time and time again and never have a source, much less a reliable one, have so many followers.

He´s a white male good Christian Republican who can formulate correct sentences. That, and Obama is a fake Christian, yet devout secret muslim socialist - also he needs a Teleprompter.

And that if he gets reelected everyone will die in a nuclear holocaust.
Bill Maher just gave an Obama Super PAC $1,000,000 dollars!
"For all the rich liberals out there, if Bill Maher can do it, you can do it too... I am doing this not just for a better nation but to protect what money I have left... Obama could lose. This is America, remember. We only get two parties and half the country is fucking nuts."

Indoctrination comment (in context) comes at 33:50 for those that are interested.
I just watched for a few minutes from the point you said...I'm baffled by this conversation. I could maybe condone complaints about public universities charging more tuition or whatever; but Beck honestly discussing shutting down these institutions due to the indoctrination of students is absurd.
It's not surprising that Santorum agrees; what is the issue that his made up statistic even occurs? Are they immoral because of that? Maybe people study on their own and make their own decisions about life and what not; and it just so happens they lose their faith in a religion that they were just taught to believe because they had no choice as a child. I'm not saying either way of living is right or wrong, but I just don't understand the argument they are making. Why is this even being discussed?

You know, this is why faith is dying in America. The people who claim to be the most faithful insult, degrade, and condemn the less faithful who just want to be good people. They hear all this bigotry and nonsense from their flagbearers and this is what religion gets associated with. It's people like Santorum who are destroying faith.

Fully agree. As much as I am not into the whole religion thing(though I went to a catholic school - led by an order of nuns, which is huuuugely different in how they approach their beliefs compared to the men in the vatican, for the first time I saw how they have some doubts and are torn on some issues which is pure human(well the headmastress was not torn - she was rather strict^^), not just the fact that ALL the molestations of children were made by men/priests), I have nothing against other people exercising their freedom of religion - AS LONG as they don´t come to me with it and try to push it down my throat, or societies throat for that matter.

By preaching the actuall contents of the bible, people are destroying faith?
I dislike Santorum, but you can't deny that in terms of adherence to the bible, he is right on the money. This is what religion is like, it isn't all about holding hands and singing songs. It is about telling people how they must live, and if they don't, they burn in hell.
People don't like it, but that doesn't mean that it isn't in the religion anymore. Christianity is what it is. This last-ditch effort to try and salvage some fragments and re-label it christianity+ just seems silly.
People like Santorum will say that others are destroying faith, because they don't preach the actual faith like he does, but a watered down version.

That is very debatable. It all comes down to theological interpretation of the gospel, and for example when it comes to celibacy(which many say is the MAIN reason there is so much child abuse by priests.), a more liberal approach and interpretation IS indeed possible. Vatican II showed some reforms are possible.(yes even in the catholic church there are rather "liberal" factions - you mostly don´t hear about them, especially with a pope like Ratzinger)
//edit: Though I should add that yes, I don´t see how the catholic church can "compromise" on the contraception/abortion issue, and therefore Santorum got a point. But seeing how much society changed after the 60s and the fact that catholics rather dismiss those rules nowadays gets the church in a very uncomfortable situation, and their only answer seems to get back to the "roots" and alienate themselves even more from believers. At least that´s mainly the case in Europe - can´t tell much about the US since Christians for the most part there have not been a part of the "club" for quite some time^^. I should read up more on evangelicals etc.

Eh, Santorum cherry picks too, after all. He's not as extreme as he could be, and there are plenty of randomly made up things too.
Christians want to be good people, like everyone else. But this image that fundamentalists give Christianity of decrying immorality for pointless reasons. They don't want to be associated with that. Who wants to qualify their faith with "but I don't think you live in sin or anything. I don't want to tell you how to live your life."
I mean that watered down version is what a lot people believe. Shouldn't be trivialized like that.
