Not exactly; my guess is he's trying to hint at the Reign of Terror ("La Terreur") that developed in Revolutionary France in 1793-1794. Basically, the revolutionary comittee started to get really paranoid and executed quite a lot of so-called enemies of the revolution (and therefore of the government) under Robespierre. The latter also tried to abolish religion and replace it with the Cult of Reason. The idea didn't really catch on and he died the same way as he had done to others -- by the guillotine. Whether the comparison is warranted or not is another matter. However, there is far more to the French Revolution than the Declaration of Human Rights -- many horrible things happened along the way. | ||
