I don't know how to even start this. I basically have three gripes, but they're all related. This has to do with StarCraft: Brood War. You know, the fucking game I've been playing for last 10 years. I've taken a couple months off every here and there, for various reasons.
I've said this many, many times, but it bears repeating: SC2 had a lot of neat ideas, but the game really got mucked up in tons and tons of balance patches that change fundamental strategies by which the game is played. Some of the changes were good. The first iteration of SC2 had some weird shit going on, like no chat channels and tanks that did no splash damage to other tanks. Blizzard listened, albeit very slowly. Then they started listening to shitty ideas, buffing and nerfing different things, and it was like a drunken driver swerving back and forth across the road over-correcting over and over. The result was that HotS was such shit by the end that I was too disgusted to even think about getting LotV. And, evidently, I made the right choice.
I played a bit of SC2 - like 10 or so games - then would fire up the Brood Wars, and it was so good! A lot of people I knew decided to "switch", with the intent of becoming good and having a popular stream with thousands of adoring fanz. I'm fine with that. I'm not fine with them saying that StarCraft: Brood War was always the better game. Then why didn't you play it, you piece of fuck? All these fake fucks just go over to whatever is popular and want to be e-famous. The common complaint that there were "no leagues" or whatever are so completely wrong that it is almost comical. There have been money tournaments.
So look, if you really love something, you stick with it. A few thousand people stuck with Brood War because they loved the game. After D3, Titanfall, and Heart of the Swarm, they should've known Blizzard wasn't interested in making competent games anymore, but rather, creating new games based on already-existing titles and using that name-brand recognition to sell enough products to create a net gain. So, to everyone who is suddenly excited for Brood War now, where were you before? I hope the next big game isn't called "Jump Off A Cliff", or you're going to die via terminal velocity.
I also hate balance-whiners and arm-chair game devs. To them, I would say: You have no idea what the fuck you're talking about, you worthless idiots. You've never designed a game, and by saying "x hurts the community" when in reality, "x hurts your ego", you are FIGURATIVELY cancer. I've heard this is bad in the LoL community, but luckily, I don't play that trash game, and I've heard there have been some shenanigans with the balance in Overwatch. In Planetside 2, so much shit gets nerfed, and for absolutely retarded reasons that it makes me want to throw a brick at a panda bear. They're like "omg why does everyone play heavy so boring". And fuck you. You played a fucking support class and got shot up by a superior player, but decide to blame it on the game. It's called a "support class" for a reason, you asshole! If you're playing light assault on a flat battlefield, then you are fucking dumb, and would probably get outplayed by a sack of potatoes that someone tossed onto a keyboard. The heavy class already got nerfed, the max suit lost the ability to run, the gatekeeper is garbage, and it's all the fault of a bunch of dumb fucking children who think the Dunning-Kruger effect applies to everyone else besides themselves, because everyone told them they were special sauce.
The same shit goes for SC2. Dumb shits like avilo think they have the right to say how the game should actually operate. My question for these kinds of people is: if x race is so goddamn good, why don't you play that race? Their excuses are always:
- I hate ZvZ/PvP/TvT
- It's boring
Everyone thinks they're a genius and are smarter than "most people". The reality is that while that may be true in general, the general population can't play StarCraft. The general population thinks
Paranormal Activity movies are scary and pay actual money to watch those. Some people even put the toilet paper roll on the roller wrong. But once a 'smart' person plays other smart people, they become ordinary again. That's when you find out there's always a bigger fish, unless you're named avilo, and in that case, you use your fame to try and influence the game developer to change the game so it better suits the stupid-ass way you play so you can win more.
For years, Chill has held back a flood of shit, but now that his old bones ache, the shit-monsoon is coming. It's going to be a typhoon made of pure feces. I'm talking about toxic gamers demanding changes to Brood War, and the horrid thought of Blizzard responding by changing Brood War. It's sad to think that this could actually happen now because, all of a sudden, Blizzard has a renewed interest in Brood War. The balance-whiners are already testing the waters by saying "bRoOd wAr iS pErFeCt bUt wUt iF wE hYpOtHeTiCaLly hAd mBs? wOuLd tHaT bE sO bAd????????????"
I hate you.

I'm in camp 2, and I don't really understand camp 1. I can at least sympathize with people in camp 3 (definitely definitely don't agree), but camp 1 just seems argumentative to me. Things like custom hotkeys would have zero effect on gameplay/balance and would only make the game more accessible. Some additional things would be: greying out minimap rather than blacked out, functional shift clicking, and widescreen come to mind.
This is somewhat more debatable, but would I humor automine. I probably wouldn't do it, but I'd be up for debate/testing.
Absolutely not. Why would that ever be up for debate? The thing that makes good players impressive is that they can control all their shit in an amazingly efficient and effective manner. None of their shit is automated, except for the workers mining once they have that order to mine. Everything else is orders, or lack thereof. If the game is "too hard" for noobs, then they don't have to play it. They have many other options.

Excited that Starcraft: Remastered is real like most of you guys.
I've played about two games of Brood War in the past few years lol though i watch every now and then.
I have a list of things that i personally would love to see on this game, a lot of them people will agree with since they are basically just quality of life changes that don't impact gameplay or balance :D
+ Show Spoiler +1) Mini-map not darked out at game start - make it SC2 style
Make it like SC2 so players not familiar with Brood War maps can at least see the layout of the map and know where to send their scouts etc. Simple quality of life change.
2) Show what your current hotkeys are - make it SC2 style
One annoying thing about Brood war is you cannot see or verify what you have hotkey'd. Simple UI addition to let players see what they have on 1-0. Doesn't affect balance/gameplay at all. Another simple quality of life change.
3) Show waypoints/rally points that you have set
You see the trend in this wishlist? Another quality of life change. Let me see the waypoints / rally points i have set for a unit to travel on. I do not see how even an SC1 elitist can argue this would be bad at all.
4) Custom Hotkeys
Let players be able to change the hotkeys to marines, zealots, etc. so I can set my marine hotkey to "a" if i want. Doesn't impact gameplay, another quality of life change

5) Ability to change player colors
Again, convenience, just something you can't do in Brood War but is pretty simple quality of life change.
I'm sure there's more i can think of that are basic quality of life changes, but those were some that came to mind pretty quickly.
As for things brood war elitists would berate me for...
It would be nice if Blizzard implemented a "Modern SC Remastered" with unlimited selection, MBS, smart cast, and the works. If only for the reason it'd be interesting as hell and a new take on Brood War. That is all. I'm hyped af like most of you for SC Remastered.
Blizzard, don't you fucking... don't. Just fucking don't. In the same thread, he says he's a "huge brood war elitist", but didn't bother to stick around when BW was getting shat on. Then saying, "It's too complicated to stream it". I can stream the game, and I'm an
idiot. If you don't have the patience to sit down and take a bit of time to figure out how to stream your favorite game, how will you play the game? You're going to get your face stomped into the mud by the almighty steel-toed boot of Brood War aka LIFE ITSELF. Don't even suggest that Blizzard noob the game up just to protect your pride from having to come to grips with reality.
Now, if I'm being perfectly honest, StarCraft: Remastered doesn't even look that good. A lot of stuff that's supposed to be shiny looks like plastic, and the graphics look like something you'd expect from 10 years ago at most. Some stuff looks good like the battlecruiser, but the ultralisk looks like fucking plastic!?
But okay, thanks Blizzard. Thanks for the 1.18 patch that makes StarCraft free even though it was technically already free.
Blizzard neglected the game, and pirate servers appeared to fill the voids that Blizzard left as their legacy. The good thing about third-party servers is that Blizzard has no control over them. The community can manage its own shit without having to asking some corporate entity if it's okay. The whole thing is a response to the waning popularity of SC2, and the revival of Brood War. Even with the demise of the SSL, thousands of viewers in Korea have watched StarCraft being streamed by former pros, and the ASL popped up.
This is a simple numbers game: the SC2 stream numbers are very telling, and Blizzard wants to squeeze some extra jizz out of that delicious e-sports cock in Korea before it dies out again, so... sudden interest in Brood War! If they can't create a new game that isn't garbage, why not take control of an already existing product? It's clear to me that Blizzard wants to have a level of control over the Fish server, and wants to kill off the Brood War section of iCCup by introducing a ladder. I shudder to think what kind of ladder Blizzard is prepared to administrate, considering how ill-prepared and short-sighted they have been in recent years. Who's going to handle ladder reports? Who's going to watch ladder replays to make sure there is no cheating going on? Who's going to ban abusers from the ladder?
They're just trying to get their dick into "esports" and get money out of gullible idiots. I'm not going to buy SC:R, because I already own the fucking game. The graphics look fine to me. For Brood War not to get fucked, Blizzard needs to do the following:
- Never touch the balance of any unit, including dragoons firing, because now people can spam attack with dragoons
- Let the users run our own damn ladder
- Let the users run our own damn tournaments
- Do not noob the game up
- Fuck off
- Let players use mcalauncher/chaoslauncher/whatever
I hate to think what's going to happen to iccup and shieldbattery. And all y'all who said "SC:R is gonna use the SC2 engine" are bad at making predictions and should drink bleach.
