+ Show Spoiler +I'm mad jealous of how increadibly big the MOBAs scene's have gotten. Like, insanely so. I look at LoL's 36 million players, or Dota2's $10 million tournament, or even this new Heroes tournament which has Tastosis and Day9 and all these figures at it and it just makes me think "Damn, what the fuck is so wrong with Sc2 that it's a fuckign joke compared to these games?". I hear nothing but how toxic LoL and Dota are but for some reason they can keep and attract all these people. I know it's a different genre, but it's similar. Most people who play RTS have at least tried MOBAs, and the entire genre spawned as a RTS game's mod. And in the competition that is esports (anyone who says we aren't directly competing with these games is wrong), we're losing. Our viewership is in the shitter, and we have absolutely 0 hype that brings more people in. We're losing so hard that SC2 isn't even on most people in the esports communities radar anymore. We're maybe 5th place on a good day, and far below the others above. They're even attracting our players away. How many good players have switched over to a MOBA? They're almost universally not successful but new one's still keep switching over. It's maddening. I wish we could figure out what is so complete wrong with SC2 that while esports is blowing up around us, we're sitting here twiddling our dicks wondering if we're gonna last into next year. I really really hate to be the ded gaem shitter, but LotV isn't gonna fucking save us, all the hype has died down already. It's only a matter of time until SC2 is dropped from every major tournament tour.
I have nothing against MOBAs, I think it's fine that they popular. I just wish that Sc2 had what they do. They have something that makes them so attractive to people that Sc2 doesn't, and it has to be beyond just the pricetag. If we (or more accurately Blizzard) doesnt figure out how to reverse this trend, SC2 is a fuckign ded game

+ Show Spoiler +100% agree with your frustration. I'd like to think that it's a fundamental "MOBAs are easier to follow than RTS games if you're completely new to watching either one" statement, rather than an issue that's inherently StarCraft-related. Also, these MOBAs are cheaper/ free and have an easier learning curve than SC1 and SC2 imo... easier to attract new blood.

If we (or more accurately Blizzard) doesnt figure out how to reverse this trend, SC2 is a fuckign ded game the price tag is actually a huge deal. for the sake of convenience let's say people have 2 game choices that are pretty much equal in terms of entertainment, except 1 is free and the other costs money, of course 95% of people will pick the free option. which is why all the new players started picking up lol and dota instead of sc2.

+ Show Spoiler + different sports are different. Even if they have the same viewers. It's not only easier to play a MOBA, but it's also easier to see individual player's mistakes and think "I could do that better" without thinking about the overall strategy. Conversely, the strategy is simple enough that a lot of players think that they can outthink the other team "if only my teammates listened to me" not realizing that it takes skill to be a people manager. With SC2, both the micro and the overall strategy are hard to grok without personally trying it yourself. And no matter how cruel or toxic the scene is, nothing will ever be as cruel and toxic as your own self doubt when you lose to the same strategy for the fifth time in a row because your execution and map awareness was not actually as good as you imagined it would be when watching pros. Fuck hard games.

+ Show Spoiler +So to all of you. Do we just have to accept the fact that Sc2 is completely doomed because Blizzard is too fucking stubborn to ever make it F2P and it's not super easy for casuals? Because I don't want it to be the case that a brilliant esport dies because fucking casuals can't get into it in 2 minutes. I mean, if it wasn't for WCS right now the foreign scene would be completely fucking dead, and while Korea is looking fairly okay, it's not as exciting to watch only Korean players all the time really. I need my foreign mediocrity fix once in a while. All this sudden hype over Heroes of the Storm, thousands of people tweeting about it on twitter, and let's not forget that Blizzard has already pumped more money into one college tournament than they do for Blizzcon finals, it's all making SC2 feel like a complete joke in comparison.

+ Show Spoiler +Why do people keep treating me like some troll? I am just a normal guy who wants to voice his opinion about the professional StarCraft II scene on TeamLiquid.net. Is that too much to ask? Some people view my writing as "funny." Well, i view it as my opinion. Seriously, what happened to people having opinions? Nobody, absolutely nobody, on this website takes my serious words seriously. When I say X player is the best player of all time today, I really mean it. Laughing at my words is just purely an insult. Sometimes when I cry at night over this stuff, I wonder how human beings can be so cruel, but then I remember that you guys are just also human beings, and being cruel over the internet is in your nature. I am trying to revitalize the StarCraft II professional scene with some quality content and a lot of you guys just go and try to bring me down by taking my words as a joke.
You know what? One day in class, I was reading some responses to something I wrote. I don't remember the exact words, but someone laughed at me. My heart felt like it had been ripped straight out of my heart and then gnawed on my a million Zerglings called Team Liquid posters. I don't think I can recover from tragedies like this. You guys always say I am in a slump...well now you know why. You made me like this. Do you think I ever wanted to be like this? Absolutely not. I just wanted to voice my opinion for the professional StarCraft II scene to see, just like any other normal person.

So there's a constant stickiness in the corner of my eye, where my eyelid is "pulled". Anyway it's hard to explain, it's annoying and I can't seem to fix it.

+ Show Spoiler +Not every amazing game ends up as an ideal e-sport. That doesn't mean you can't take pride in the game and its community, regardless of how niche it ends up being <3 It's certainly frustrating to watch it get passed over for other games that we consider less interesting or too casual, but that's life.
