First episode aired yesterday and it was pretty good. Explains a lot why Batiatus acted the way he did in Blood and Sand. Can't wait for next episode(s).

It's rather sad that the Andy Whitfield got diagnosed with lymphoma, got cured, had it return, and can't do season 2 though. I always hate recasts. It just never feels the same.

I'd prefer prequel first, but be aware there are MASSIVE spoilers if you watching from the very beginning of the first episode. So if you choose to watch prequel I'd start watching from 1m 55sec into the show (if your downloading it). But starting with Blood and Sand probably is best because you never know if director chooses to put another spoiler in the remaining 5 episodes of the prequel.... Just start with Blood and Sand :D

I'm sorry for caps but blood and sand definitely has to be the best season of a show I've ever seen! i recommend that everyone watches it => thanks for the news :D. Now, let us go back in time and read some TL.net opinions on the B&S: On February 17 2010 04:45 Kennigit wrote: I've been watching it. The CG is complete trash - the whole show feels like a really really low budget rip off of HBO's "Rome" (which was stellar). I don't know why they insist on having all the clouds sped up ....it completely ruins any semblance of immersion in the shots. The acting isn't THAT bad, but the slow mo explosions of blood....lol. Yeah the show is pretty bad. On February 17 2010 04:43 Drowsy wrote: Very easily some of the worst acting in a television show I have ever witnessed. The first two episodes were fucking horrendously written as well. The dialogue and acting are both really terrible but the story seems to be getting better. It's sort of like Rome's retarded cousin had a down's baby with 300. Seriously, it's so god damn hard to watch it. You have to suffer the shitty, abundant, out-of-place CG all the time. The dialogue is bad, the acting is bad, fight scenes are bad (who the fuck makes this scenes with slow mo -> fast forward -> stop -> fast -> slow, so god dam annoying, and don't even get me started on blood sprays...), the guys who did the show apparently didn't bother to do their homework on history and geography either (talking about them running around half-undressed during winter, it's hardly possible where they are). If you want to watch some fighting and gladiators, go and see Gladiator instead. If you want the drama, tits and realism, go and see Rome.

If it's going to get better then great, but if they keep up with the badly directed/edited combat scenes, ridiculous CG and cramming naked women onto the screen whenever possible I really can't see much hope for this series.

Gods of the Arena kicked everything up a notch. Violence, sexyness, badassery. Watching Crixus rise up was pretty good as well as all the other sub character plots. I really loved it, such a shame it was only 6 episodes. They did tie up all the loose ends, and knit it all together well. Fight scenes were still meh, but I'll live. + Show Spoiler + What a way to end the season. They make you think Crixus is going to shank Gannicus all along, but then he's granted freedom! I think I like this way better, that way there is a glimmer of hope that Gannicus can make an appearance in Season 2. Spartacus + Crixus + Gannicus, the trifecta of awesome ^^.

BUT the fighting is no where as cool as it is in Spartacus so i didn't like it very much, it focused more on the story than fighting so it wasn't as exciting for me! it's all about personal preference. Watch it and see for yourself!. P.S: The finale was amazing, can't wait for season 2!, or maybe they will do a prequel of the prequel to show the shadow of death fighting animayes? :D.

If you are doing a series about gladiators you of course need fights and blood, but is it really necessary to see a spearhead pierces a mans head and then be pulled to crack his skull open and his jaw dropped from his face while numerous liquids and blood flows down over his body, I don't know? Also regarding the point about "capturing the time", this series gives only one side of it. The Romans were also known for their science, philosophy, debates, democracy etc etc - things that are not shown or represented.

The Romans were also known for their science, philosophy, debates, democracy etc etc - things that are not shown or represented. Point taken, as those shots do not appeal to me as well. I think they made that shot just because there is so much violence in the show, they always look to take it a step higher. Since it was the season finale, i guess they wanted to be the final battle blow to overstep all others. It is really how every movie or serie works, overstepping past actions with greater action or plot. A serie taking this to far usually ends in anti climax, hence Lost or other numerous shows. This aside, because i'm kind of sailing of topic. The show is about gladiators and its nature around it. The fact that beautiful things like that aren't shown is because they weren't in there environment. There are many other shows surrounding those subjects, and it just wouldn't have fitted in this one. In larger perspective, all movies and shows are lacking in showing its full image of the Roman time/empire. Maybe in the future a movie will arise showing its full glory and dark sides.

Your very status amongst your brethren will be elevated when you orate your experiences of decapitations; dismemberments; bludgeoning and copious amounts of fornication that would make Mars and Venus themselves tremble in such awe and jealousy, more so than detailing your anguish and weepiness over such foolhardy notions of an "interesting plot and characters".
