Why are you reposting this stuff from 2002? The South Korean government is currently requesting the US to put tactical nuclear weapons in South Korea. The US has a new commander in chief. Situations are much different now so why should the US and SK base their joint military strategy on one 2001/2 court case and some student protesters?

I am pretty sure this is a laughable reply from North Korea

There's a serious news story here and I'm facepalming pretty hard at this whole debate over "hurrr which country's soldiers are the most badass?" Yes seriously....sheesh you'd think this thread was run by immature children This pretty big event in the S. Korea. The people are probably emotional like something along time lines of 9/11. NK has NEVER NEVER attacked on SK soil. this is the first time in ~60years. Take a trip to Wikipedia please. This shit happens all the time. Not so much recently, true, but you certainly don't have to go back to the Korean war. Your Average SK will not care what happens around the border. Let alone all the events that occured in the borders. 1980s were probably the most tense years but those events were provoked. The recent boat incidents were provoked as well. This was unprovoked AND was on Korean SOIL!! This is the worst thing they've done since the korean war. You were wrong and you continue to be wrong. There is no shame in admitting it, even on the internet.

Yeah but Nukes change everything, and NK has them they can kill more civilians in a day than the nazi's did during the whole war Is this based on facts and common knowledge or just guestimations based on the fact korea showed uranium enrichment facilities?
i think it's based on the fact that the very recent trip by stanford physicist siegfried hecker to nk reported that nk actually had surprisingly modern technological sophistication in their nuclear plants and centrifuges. (hecker goes to nk for nuclear inspection once every year since 2004).
1. hecker could be lying...(i know it seems unlikely but never take anything for granted)
2. nk is somehow getting nuclear technology secrets recently....especially given how fail they used to be in their weapons technology (remember those missile tests couple years ago which failed terribly?)

island was 17km away This is true, I know NK always has enough artillery aimed at Seoul to really destory it (supposedly anyway) and this has been true at least since 2001 when I first researched this. This. NK has more artillery than any other country in the world. Think about that - tiny little strip of land has more big guns than China, Russia or the USA.
Yeah.
Some more from wikipedia: North Korea is the most militarized country in the world today,[4] having the fourth largest army in the world, at about 1,106,000 armed personnel, with about 20% of men ages 17–54 in the regular armed forces.[5] It also has a reserve force comprising 8,200,000 personnel. It operates an enormous network of military facilities scattered around the country, a large weapons production basis, a dense air defense system, the third largest chemical weapons stockpile in the world,[6] and includes the largest Special Forces contingent (numbering 180,000 men).[7]
There's a reason why we haven't just "blown them up" by now. They hold the South hostage and have for fifty years. NK is the hardest problem in foreign relations, period.

Chemical warfare, along with the threat of nuclear warfare on Seul, which is a vital part of the world economy, is the cause of very extreme caution. It is a very tough situation for all of the major world powers and the countries themselves. There is danger involved here? Really? That is an interesting and new view on this topic. Enough with the sanctions and strong words. This was clearly a planned out artillery strike on a south korean millitary base. If we do not take strong action now, this will only encourage the N.K to further harass the south. I know everyone is fearful of a full scale war but just letting these kinds of attacks (torpedo, gun fires) go unanswered is only asking for more trouble later.

BBC reports that India is sending 36000 aditional troops to the China-India border. I hope that's unrelated, but it is under the banner of "Korean crisis"

*sigh it's these kinds of expected things which make NK more hateful imo. no matter how hard you try, you just can't find any sympathy for NK

Kind of on topic - Hussein's Iraq had the 4th largest military in the world (by number of troops) going into the first gulf war. Didn't help much vs. the US. I'm not sure that is relevant to North Korea but it could be and was very surprising to me when I learned about it.

north korea says they will immediately "punish" SK if they even step 0.1mm into their territory.

Thats not really on topic because their army size didnt matter as their army was no imminent threat to anyone in their area.

This is just ridiculous now
They say South Korea fired first when video surveillance showed NK firing first Now they're saying if we cross 0.1mm into NK, they're going to show South Korea the might of North Korea
