Instead of discussing potential diplomatic repercussions and being genuinely concerned about this serious matter, let's all compare our respective military strengths /sarcasm
I wouldn't say that discussing potential military repercussions from an escalation is anymore invalid than discussing potential diplomatic repercussions, would you? And talking about what ifs applies to both situations. That entirely stemmed from "what if" US backed/didn't back, etc. US military presence significant or not, etc.

GSL is up and running despite the recent events.

This is going to be really fascinating to see how (hopefully, how) this is resolved in a peaceful fashion.
The over-riding problem however is that its only going to be a temporary resolve, until next time...

I feel really bad for SK. They are in an impossible situation. They can't afford a war and certainly don't like being fired upon. They tried limitting trade and other stuff but NK has only one answer, violance. They need to do something but they can't. It saddens me. They only way I can see this conflict can resolve is a big change in NK's policy which won't happen in the near future.

Lets see if they(artosis) even know whats going on.

Is this based on facts and common knowledge or just guestimations based on the fact korea showed uranium enrichment facilities?

And even if they did, I think the risk of using them and incurring the wrath of every nation in the world outweighs anything that they can hope to achieve with said nuke.

Yes seriously....sheesh you'd think this thread was run by immature children This pretty big event in the S. Korea. The people are probably emotional like something along time lines of 9/11. NK has NEVER NEVER attacked on SK soil. this is the first time in ~60years. Take a trip to Wikipedia please. This shit happens all the time. Not so much recently, true, but you certainly don't have to go back to the Korean war.
Your Average SK will not care what happens around the border. Let alone all the events that occured in the borders. 1980s were probably the most tense years but those events were provoked. The recent boat incidents were provoked as well. This was unprovoked AND was on Korean SOIL!! This is the worst thing they've done since the korean war.

I hope this doesn't escalate. This shit gets everyone worried

That happened eight years ago

They tested one dude and the US verified this. Only other explanation is a massive conventional explosion that might have created some earthquake / rockslide.

This "wrath of every nation" surely sounds terrifying.

Can agree with the claim that they were the leading military power at the outbreak of WW2, but hardly the strongest economy.
On topic though, its quite disturbing that a starcraft site has more information about relevant world politics and happenings then all the major swedish news sites combined. Go TL.net keep up the good reporting and translating.

It probably won't escalate to something big... I hope. My guess is theres going to be a 6 party talk. It's going to be big and influential to east asian history most likely. China might change its foreign policy with NK or the international community US might start questioning China about there foreign policy with NK.
I doubt NK will even show up for any type of diplomatic talks. They usually isolate themselves after these types of incidents.

Wow, terrible news to wake up to.

The problem is that North Korea can just release all of their chemical weapons into the atmosphere. That threat alone is the scariest thing about the tension. If any serious threat presents itself, the world knows the potential widespread damage that can be done if North Korea presses the panic button. Chemical warfare, along with the threat of nuclear warfare on Seul, which is a vital part of the world economy, is the cause of very extreme caution. It is a very tough situation for all of the major world powers and the countries themselves.
