If anything, these have more "piercing" highs from what I've seen in the reviews (everyone says that the highs on HD650 roll off faster, and thus the sound is a bit warmer). \o/ I hope you got the amp to power those babies.
I know my HD650 needs quite a bit of juice to perform their best.

Dude, get yourself a pair of HE-400s or something. They're still on sale.

Also I'm thinking the next headphones I'll buy will be some pretty fancy shiz, which is why I was looking at LCD2's... but given my recent purchases, I can't really justify it. So I'm not really in the market for the HE-400's.

What you be sayin' bro? Ordering expensive stuff straight from the US is risky. I could get slapped with some pretty hefty screw-you fines. Plus the CDN/US change rate is not very good for importations right now

I don't. But I'll get one in January. I spent way too much all of a sudden and a new amp will cut into my xmas shopping budget. I'll get the Fiio E09K I think, or a Schiit Magni for now, and then further on I might switch to a Burson (Soloist would be awesome <3).
Until then, for one month or two, I'll just be using my mini-amp E07K which is recommended for 16-150ohm, but I see a lot of people said that it drives HD600/650 quite well on its own - even though not at full potential. I don't think any harm can come to them if I just use the mini-amp for a couple of months, right?

Is there any good Wireless Headphones with the option to go wired if necessary? I don't want to have to stop gaming or watching a movie to swap batteries or, even worse, go out to buy them in case I don't have some lying around.
Up to 200USD.
Thanks in advance ^^

Creative Aurvana Live!
Might be slightly over $50 but not by much. And you can't beat them in that price range. Heck you can't even beat them under $100.
MSRP was about $60 or $65. I see on amazon they are much more expensive now. :/

For those of you who have been asking about wireless headphones, most of us have no clue =(

I ordered a pair of M50s for music just recently but for gaming I still swear by my AD700s. The only problem is that the cord is very stiff, so I'm looking to either rewire 'em or mod 'em to accommodate a detachable cable. Any tips for where I should start on my journey into the world of breaking nice things?

Just got a pair of Vsonic R02 cuz my previous budget pair I use at the gym (Philips SHE 3590) got snatched by my little brother.
Pretty good for the price. Killer female vocals, but if I want bass I'll still have to go back to my ie80.

Sennheiser momentums, best sound I have ever heard from headphones and I tried many.

I'm looking to get a new headset for Christmas since my Steelseries ones didn't even last me a year before one of the ears shorted out. Looking for any suggestions in the $100-200 range. I'd prefer some that have the best possible sound as I do a bit of video editing and listen to a lot of music too, I just need to mic for playing dota and such on skype, so it's more of an after-thought. I do currently have a stand mic, so I guess I would entertain just getting some normal headphones also if someone suggested some great ones. Thanks for any input guys!

Do yourself a favour and get a proper set of headphones. You can get a clip on mic for quite cheap. that way you will get vastly better sound quality and still be able to talk. For that price range you can look at things like Audio-Technica ATH-M50s, cheaper AKGs, some Sennheiser stuff, Pro series Beyerdynamics. There are a lot of options. What kind of music do you like? That will help us with recommendations a ton.
But really, please don't get another headset. I've yet to hear a pair that were even remotely close to any similarly priced set of headphones. So many headsets are so cheaply made too.

When I switched over from laptop gaming, though, I needed something with a mic so I'm currently using a Zowie Hammer, I think. The lack of headband cushioning bothers me, but the real problem is that one of the connections somewhere is going. I do like the mid-cord volume dial/mic mute. Can anyone recommend a headset (with mic) that'd be most similar to the HD201? Somewhere in the $50-$100 range ideally. update: just ended up buying some A700Xs with a clip-on mic, after reading everyone trashing on headsets. heard it's a decent balance between gaming and music.

So many headsets are so cheaply made too. This was exactly the type of advice I was looking for, thanks! I can see where you're coming from with most headsets being cheaply made, having owned a few previously, including the Steelseries. The type of music I usually listen to would probably mostly be classified as metal. I know it's not exactly the most sound-quality sensitive type of music, but I do work with some EDM and house while editing. Looking over the Sennheiser and Beyerdynamics stuff, there's just so many different models to choose from with a wide-range of prices. I'm kind of at a loss of where to start. I see Sennheiser actually offers some headphones with a mic attachment (PC 350 SE), are you against those as well? Are there any specific models you would recommend to look into further? Thanks for the help thus far!
Edit: I just wanted to add, I've got a new gaming rig coming in on Monday, though I'll only be using the on-board 7.1 audio with it (ASRock Z87 Extreme4 mobo). Will there be an issue with using the headphones to their fullest potential with that being the case? Should I look to invest in a decent sound card down the line, or will it make only a minimal difference, noticeable to only a hardcore audiophile?

I guess it really depends on what your budget is and what headphones you end up going for. Ultimately there are diminishing returns when you start climbing the high end headphone range. For your budget I'd probably recommend the M50's as they are highly regarded (or the HD600's/650's if you can stretch to that). An audiophile rule of thumb is usually to spend as much on an amp as you do on the headphones, but you can pick up something cheap and reasonable that'll push headphones in this price bracket for relatively cheap (Fiio E10 for example will bypass your 7.1/sound card as it connects via USB and coverts the digital signal to analog).
For now, i'd focus on getting a good, solid pair of headphones like the ATH M50 and get an amp later. But be warned, you're going to get addicted and dropping $$$ for more intimacy and immersion won't seem such a bad idea in the future.... =)

So both of you are recommending the ATH M50s. I've read quite a few reviews and posts on other forums about them now, everyone seems to have quite positive things to say from as far as I can tell. They're also relatively cheap! So if I got these I'd still have enough in the budget the pick up the Fiio E10, or comparable amp as well. Is this the way to go?
Complete newb question here, but how does the AMP interact with using speakers? I don't use headphones 100% of the time, actually when I'm just watching a show or browsing the web I'll just use my speakers. I'm seeing people say that I'd need a 2nd AMP for the speakers? What's the alternative, unplugging the AMP and swapping with speakers every time I want to use the other?
Thanks for all the suggestions guys!
