I use headphones for listening to music after twelve, to plug into my electric piano, on the train to listen to stuff and to play electric guitar via a pocket amp. I set my eye on the HD 598 by Sennheiser, but alternatives are welcome.
With your uses of music after midnight and listening on the train as well as your instruments I take it that you want something that will not disturb others? If that's the case you probably do not want to get HD 598s. Those are open headphones which do not have any isolation at all. It does not block out any of the sound that would bother you while you are on the train and it does not stop your music from leaking out and disturbing others. Don't get me wrong, I love my HD 598s and they are wonderful headphones but they probably do not fit your needs that well.

A nice sturdy, pretty cheap, coiled cord headphone would be the Sony MDR-V6/7506 If I wanted the ATHM50, what would be a nice desktop amp? Or would a soundcard be better? Educate me please! Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Yeah, I think they completely replaced the AD700 with AD700x. Some budget recommendations for an amp/DAC combo are the FiiO E10 which can be hand for about 50 dollars on sale or the Schiit Magni/Modi which is pricier at 200 but I have literally only heard good things about them.

My SteelSeries 7H (which I highly recommend!) has run its course and I'm looking for a new headset.
I'd like to have suggestions for a wireless headset between 100$ and 150$, ideally PS3 compatible.
Thanks!

Sigh, I got the DT-770 Pros (80-ohm impedance) and they're generally really comfortable and I enjoy the sound, but....I *think* the clamp is weird. It shouldn't be too tight because I've worn them for quite a bit and I've stretched them out on boxes, but for some reason they always like semi-dislocate my jaw or something and it gets all sore.
I think it's a problem with my jaw a little in the first place (maybe naturally a little misaligned? ;; ) but yeah...sucks.

Sucks to hear that. I use a DT-770 250-ohm and it fits like a champ. I can wear it for hours on end and I don't really feel any discomfort.

Does anyone have any experience with Audio-technica's headphones? thinking about buying the Audio Technica ATH-AD700 mosly for gaming.

Hello,
Over the last 7 years I have enjoyed these two products:
Sennheiser HD595 Etymotic Research ER-4P
Each has received a bit of wear and tear over that time frame and I have a few questions about improving my experience with old cans. In general I listen to lossless tracks on low to medium volume level on an iPod nano to protect my hearing. As for genres, I listen to a fair amount of electronic music, soundtracks, and a wide range of live performances.
With a headphone amp or DAC, do you have to listen at a higher volume in order to hear the difference?
Are there any portable headphone amps or DACs that would fulfill my desire to increase the depth of bass and the detail of the highs while not losing any quality in the mid range through the ER-4P and an iPod nano?
Are there any guides to diagnose if a headphone or earbud is under performing or having technical issues?
Thanks for all your help! Cheers

Alrighty, I may or may not have broken my M50s. RIP :<
I'm looking at D990 Pros w/ an amp (don't know what to get) or the HD598s. Any help there? I'm leaning towards the 990s b/c I loved my M50s.

You're going to love these headphones. My friend has a pair and I love gaming on them when I'm over and he's passed out or something. You hear everything. EVERYTHING. If I were to recommend a pair of headphones under 200 for just gaming I would say these ones all the way (from what I've worn)
I settled on the DT990-250s but now need to find an amp for them. I can't quite seem to find a consensus on an amp under 150 that will drive these :/

The weird thing is, I've worn headphones that do clamp down harder, I'd say, but they never gave me this weird jaw problem stuff. Might just be how the headphones just specifically clamp on some area of my jaw joint or something, damn.

For the 7th or 8th year in a row, I need to buy new Headphones.
Again, the plastic piece that elongates to adjust the headphones broke. I've only ever had 1 pair of headphones actually stop working on me, it's always the fucking plastic piece.
So I'm here to ask for help looking for DURABLE headphones.
This is what I DON'T WANT as the red part always breaks :
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/Q7LIzlX.jpg) (I've also had the small plastic piece right below that break as well, making the 1 earmuff just drop off).
I want headphones with a headband, similar to these (the adjustable part of on top):
http://www.sennheiser.ca/live/senn/produit/en/2919/158
I know there are some headphones with a double headband type of strap that I think are durable as well but I'm not finding any off hand.
Needs to be : -Decent noise cancelling (IE sound barely comes in or out of earmuffs) so I don't need to head my surroundings and no one really hears my music, etc. I don't care for an extra switch to turn noise cancelling on... just something that's relatively soundproof by material (like the skullcandy headphones in that regards). -Have a microphone -Preferably wireless but not necessary -Price within reason not an issue (not going to pay 300+ for a headset though)
Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. The skullcandy were great in terms of comfort, noise and function. I just need to find something with that earmuff, but with a mic + a durable build with a headband and not an adjustable piece of plastic.

Sony MDR V6/7506 has a metal band instead of plastic and are the most durable headphones I know
Unfortunately, it's not wireless (has long coiled cord), nor does it have a microphone (you can always get a separate mike) but I guarantee you that thing is not going to break (under normal use and beatings )
You're comparing it to skullcandy and they are known for breaking easily (and sounding quite poor) Most good headphones don't break with proper use, so unless you're really beating them for some reason, you should be fine

My replacement Sony XBA30's finally died (probably something to do with putting them in washing machine and dryer a few months ago), and my new UE900's came in. Awesome sound, though a bit annoying to use since I'm being overly careful and using the hard plastic case, as well as it being worn pliable plastic overear instead of the more flexible cable overear on the Westone W series.

i did research for weeks and weeks one time for a perfect music/pc gaming headphone that i could wear a long time and i found a golden nugget Sony MDRMA900.
![[image loading]](http://static.trustedreviews.com/94/000022cce/ebb5/Sony-MDR-MA900.jpg)
these are in same price range as hd 598 (200$) except are 10x better in every way they are the most comfortable headphone in existence and you could easily wear for 48 hours with no hurting... this alone is why i got them i researched "most comfortable headphone" turns out the most comfortable headphones has sound quality comparable to 500$ headphones..and the 598s sound like "tin cans" compared to them
perfect headphone just trying so save someone money, not advertising
audio technica m50s especially do not buy them i had them before they have closed back (sound like total trash 1 dimensional.) (why would anyone want a closed back i honestly dont know unless you wear them in librarys alot) and the clamp hurt my ears so bad they were unwearable after 1 hour. and ad 700 have no bass i hear and are really big and some say uncomfy
adios

So, you've never put on a pair of 598s and you're trashing them? I loved my m50s and so have many others, but you are right about them not being comfortable after a while. To alleviate this there were mods you could do to keep them from clamping onto your head so hard. Closed = extra bass and less noise leak if you don't want others around you to hear what you're listening to/don't want noise to leak in that much.

A convincing argument indeed.
