Currently I use the Sennheiser hd212 pro's, and I love the sound , and they're just unbelievably rugged (earcups pop off, every part on them is replaceable) but they're unbearably uncomfortable after 45 minutes to an hour, pinching my head and giving me a headache.
I picked up a set of corsair HS1A's on a storming newegg deal, with the understanding that my creative X-fi titanium professional could actually handle them. And I was rewarded with phenomenal highs and mids, but the flattest, most awful bass I've ever heard. This is disappointing, because on the comfort and quality front, these things are mind-blowing, with a solid, awesome mic.
I'm currently trying to see if I can get the HS1A's to run off of just my on-board realtek, separately from my speakers which use the X-fi. Because I got them to sound -acceptable- with EQ tweaking.
That said, is it possible to run both headphones AND speakers from the X-fi titanium pro? I know the HD has a separate jack, but the way I have to have my gigaworks S750 plugged into my sound card (stupid old school 4-3 cable) I lose the ability to use the headphone jack in it. But even then, my sound card is still trying to pump out 7.1 sound, and it's goofy sounding.
How do you audiophiles switch between speakers and headphones smoothly?
If you think those are comfortable, I assure you that if you bought a pair of AD700's which are ACTUAL headphones, then the comfort level would be out of this world. To this day the AD700's are still the most comfortable headphone I have owned.
I used to be one to buy gaming headsets : I had both the Steelseries 3H and the 5Hv2. Buying a pair of AD700's and giving those away to friends was probably one of the best decisions I have made.
On another note: I've started to integrate my DAC into my setup. At the moment, running a xonar dx -> home built modified cyrus 1 amp is working really well with both my headphones, but having tested adding a dedicated DAC (also self built), the sound is rather improved! I'll upload some pics when im done (after im back from korea)
The AD700's are good, but he did say he was a bit of a basswhore. The AD700's don't have much boom and rumble but they're more nice, clean and precise bass hits
I'm currently still in the market for headphones, and these sound like exactly what I'm looking for. Could you maybe share your experiences with the sound leak (since they're open design, right?) and if its a big deal? I usually have my headphones on in the bus going to school, either listening to music or watching movies. I was told that open designs let sounds in and out of the headset, making them less ideal for public usage, but I was wondering if anyone with personal experience can tell me whether or not it's just exaggeration? Also, my uncle is flying from the states shortly after black Friday. I have no experience with the holiday since I dont live in the US, but do headphones go down in price as well during this time? (retail and online stores?)
Sorry if its a lot of questions in one post. >< Thanks in advance to anyone who can help out
I have hd558's that are open design and I probably wouldn't use them for mobile purposes. You don't get much sound isolation and other noice can drown out sound out a bit. If you crank up the volume you can't really sit in a liberary or other place where you don't want to disturb others. I don't know if the ad700's are the same but if you intend to use them in public I'd probably look at more sound isolating headphones.
I'm sure others can give you better suggestions but I'd look at something like Beyerdynamic DT770.
hellos. im looking to buy a headphone as a gift price range ~$150, here is what i'm looking for: -closed (good isolation) -impactful bass (for movies) -easy to drive (computer use) -neutral (wide range of music)
it will be used for mostly for movies + music. right now i'm looking at ath-m50, ath-700, beyerdynamic dt770, and mdr-v6. i'm open to other options and am willing to max at ~$200.
basically looking for a good all-around heaphone. help me out!
In case you don't remember, and I know you don't, I've been searching for some in-ears to beat up because my UEs can't take a lot of punishment (now I have $200 buds held together by scotch tape), and nobody helped me with any advice. So in case anyone else cares, I got some Philips O'neill "The Specked", precisely this model: http://www.usa.philips.com/c/headphones/sho9554_28/prd/en/ And I'm very impressed with the price/quality ratio. I would have never gotten these if I couldn't test them in the shop, but they let me, and I fell in love instantly. They have decent bass, even though a bit muddy, as opposed to all the other Philips headphones I had (low-end, I admit), and the overall quality is very good for the price (like $30). The part I love most about them is the cable which is textile-covered and thus non-tangling. Not to mention they look really rugged and cool in their own way. I would compare the sound quality to the Sennheiser CX series (CX400, CX350). They may be a bit worse, but not by much, and the Sennheiser is twice as costly.
One thing I saw many people complain about, and that I wanted to ask you guys about, is noise transfering through the cable. Meaning that if you touch the top of the cable (closer to the buds), you can hear it in the headphones. This doesn't bother me at all, since once run them under my shirt it doesn't produce the effect at all (only when I physically touch them with my fingers), but I saw that many returned them for this reason. I also have this effect on my Ultimate Eears, so I don't think it's about bad build quality, is it? Can any of you explain why this is happening? And why would it bother you if it only happens when you fondle them, which you shouldn't anyway.
@mahnini: I know you want closed, but those really sacrifice quality for isolation. You should really really look into the HD595 (you should be able to find them around the $220 mark new, or under $150 used). They are so far above most of the <$200 models it's ridiculous. Look at these review scores: http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD595-Performance-Premiere-Headphones/dp/B0001FTVE0/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1321609544&sr=8-5 There is also a newer model (the HD598) which seems to be $173 new on amazon, but I really don't know much about it, and if it's cheaper, I doubt it's better =/.

I know you didn't ask me but i'll share my insight anyway.
The AD700's have nice mids and highs, and yes, compared to many closed models it will seem extremely bass light. The sound leak is fairly apparently once you reach any semblance of loud volume: If you are in a study room, then anyone in your study room will be able to hear what you're listening to if its at a pretty high volume. You can't use them on the bus - I can hear my computer fans that are about 2 metres away (already as silent as possible) so you won't be able to hear anything on the bus without pissing everyone off. If you're going to travel I'd go with canalphones/ IEMs because you won't disturb anyone, and the sound will be much clearer.
In general the AD700's are really really good for the price, but once I moved into higher audio the sound seems a bit coarse to me. However, I still use them on a daily basis because the comfort is unparalleled, and bass is not that important to me: I always prefer clean, tight, accurate bass to bass that drowns everything out. In my car though I have the bass higher... so I don't fall asleep
tl,dr: ad700's impossible for public use, you'll look like an idiot as well. That being said, please don't get beats
Thanks for the help, I'll keep looking around. You da man! :O

Try the Sony XB700s. They are in your price range ($80 on Amazon) and should have plenty of bass. The ear pads are like pillows on your head, and there is no sound leakage, as these headphones are closed. Keep in mind that these headphones are gigantic and might not be too good for wearing outside.
I have a pair of alessandro ms-1's that my brother seemed to have neglected... when the volume is up i hear a bit of rattle? from 1 or both of the earphones. he may have dropped them multiple times or something.. don't know much about it. any ideas on a fix or what to do? also, the ear foams are ripped, where can i get some replacements?

Try the audio technica ath m-50 or beyerdynamic dt770 pro (32/80 ohm), you can't go wrong with either.
Cheers!
Edit: Might add that the audio technica's a bit more portable since you can fold them together.
I have some AKG K 518 LE. My old sennheisers broke so i bought these. They are pretty cheap but i think the sound quality is good for the price. The worst thing is that they are kinda uncomfortable to wear over like 1-2 hours. But since i dont usually use them for that long period of a time it isn´t a problem for me.
I think im going to get a new pair of sennheiser since i really like their headphones.

just remember that there is alot of good headphones out there, shopping by brand is not always the best solution

Take off the pads and check the drivers for hair that could've gotten in.
You can try emailing Alessandro or your nearest dealer if they can get in the Comfy pads. If you don't mind them being yellow, the Sennheiser HD414 pads also fit them (they're $10 cheaper too)
They recently replaced the a500, a700, and a900's with a500x, a700x, a900x ( different pads( should be more durable supposedly ) /colors/slightly different build ) and should be relatively the same.
I modded my RE0 by adding more foam. If you want more bass and a thicker sound, adding foam will do the trick.
There's yellow foam beneath the filter. If you remove it, Mids and Treble will increase, leading to increased volume. It might also sound clearer. Adding foam does the opposite.
I've been using my AKG K272 for a week now, and I really like the sound. Bass is just great for me. Today I got my Asus DX (changed my dead siberia v2's to it trough the store's warranty). The soundcard doesnt make a really big difference, but since I got it for almost free, I don't have regrets.
I have been using shitty earbuds from walgreens for way too long and would like to get some/a kickass headphones/headset. I don't want to spend >100$, but I'd like something decent. Ideally- something portable, long-lasting, and that will work with a macbook pro. I really am at a loss on this and would like some help if you can. Send me a pm if you feel like being a bro.
I broke my plantronic headset a week ago. Plantronics are really good its my 2nd of a different model, I recommend them. Since I broke them tho I asked a Steelseries Siberia for xmas. So yea, Plantronics are good, I broke 2 in 5 years which is good imo.
