So, I was sitting there in my room trying to find something to do while my desktop is afk'd =P
...Then I saw the cover of my engineering brochure which had the picture of a Starship Trooper which had amazing similiarity to the Zerglings. Which made me reminiscent of the old Starship Troopers animated series that aired on Cartoon Network Toonami (hu didn't love that show as a kid? =P). Then after much digging around, all I managed to find were torrents for the 3 movies that were released (which got progressively worse to the point of cringe-worthy unwatchable). So question is, does any1 know where I can get this series?
Background information:
Starship Troopers was orginially a novel written by Robert A. Heinlein in the 70s. It is arguably the base of many sci-fi space setting games we have today. Yes, that's right, Robert A. Heinlein is arguably the great-grand-daddy of Starcraft.
The novel being written in 1970, had a movie adaptaion made in 1997 (Starcraft was released in 1998). The animated series was released in 1999. However the series was plagued with production problems with studios not being able to meet the deadlines etc, thus episodes were aired with no chronological orders (think: episode 1 to 5...then back to 2 to 7...then back to 1 to 3 to 7 to 9 to 4 to 6). Thus it never gained a big audience. For that matter, I remember only watching for the awesome CGI big battles. It was like watching an epic Starcraft series. It had the standard space marines, big-ass starships. If I remember correctly, the 'bugs' were pretty much an exact replica of Zerg as we know it (me being a Zerg player sc1-->sc2 found this fascinating).
Here's some Examples: -Warrior bugs = Zerglings -Brain bugs = Infestors -Flying bugs = Mutalisks -Changelings = Changelings -Bugs could also mind control (think Neural Parasite) -Plasma Bugs = Spore Crawlers -BIg BIG bugs ==> Ultralisks. -Burrow ambush was common
So for those of you looking for some epic star craft-y series to watch...help me look for this elusive series (no seeders makes me sad =[[[) and we can enjoy it!
Starship Troopers book is published in 1959. The cover is totally OG.
The animated series is called Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles. I saw every episode, it's really good. It first aired in 1999 as the first ever CGI tv show and the graphics still stand up pretty well cus the excellent excellent voice-over performance makes up for it. It's also mocapped It should've served as more heavily as inspiration for SC2 (model-designs) instead of stupid transformers and optimus prime (goddamn Blizz geeks).
What makes it good is that it applies a lot of real world common sense to the scifi world: Power suits use power (imagine that), they can be damaged, run outta air, run outta power, etc. Big mechs and walkers need to be constantly serviced and only have a certain # of hours before operating shutdown; bugs are intelligent creatures that constantly evolve and adapt to the battlefield (one episode they evolved a bug type that can wear infantry power armor), etc. You can do so many things in a series you can't do in movies. There's also the human factor, these are real people who live and die and love and hope (yes they actually die on a "4 kiddiez" cartoon show, and they do NOT comeback to life like silly comic books) so you really do care for them.
I loved it. But apparently they never finished the final 4 episode before running outta money. They had a lot of problems with they way they broadcasted the show which led to huge problems. All the episodes should be somewhere online, on streaming sites. The story synopsis for the final unmade episodes should also be on fan sites somewhere.
Starship troopers 2 and 3 ruined this series for me. It doesn't make sense. What did they do with all the money they got from the first one?! Also, what happened to the new one-shot weapons and epic new ships they showed at the end of the first movie? We never saw them again!
3 was so bad I literally thought it was a joke when I saw the trailer on youtube.
I'll never be able to watch anything related to it ever again.
Fuck the movies #2 and 3, the tv show will restore faith in you, I guarantee it. Frankly you need to get some kind of award, followed by a savage beating if you made it to movie #3.
I dunno why they made those completely crap straight to DHS bullshit, could've used the money for the TV show. I think people just don't respect animation as a serious medium of storytelling in this country, even today. Imagine the first ever CGI show that also happens to be one of the best American animated TV show, and you get Roughnecks.
3 was awesome. It started off with a bunker contain on a Zerg that went for FE. The Zerg managed to hold the contain back long enough to get out some laser scorpians, meanwhile some NP'd dudes opened the gates. From there, Raynor escaped and eventually landed with a small party on an infested planet after some Mutas+Scourge raped his Battlecruisers and Dropships. There he proceeded to duke it out with the Overmind while being harassed by Lurkers and Zerglings.
Anyway, I remember Roughnecks. It was such a baller show. You can find it on torrent sites.

[edit] Please don't savagely beat me.
Well the 3rd movie is called "Marauder."
If you watch this trailer, at 1:07 you can see the terran player summon 3 marauders and take out the entire zerg army as it comes. Also, at 1:56 you can see the new ability Marauders are getting in the next patch.

Movie 1 was awesome. Movie 2 sucked balls. I didn't watch movie 3... I dunno where to find the animated series, but it sure was KICK ASS, when it ran on TV.
I love the animated series as a kid as well, but I don't seem to remember any storyline. Maybe it was because of that air schedule you guys were talking about.
On a side note, I've recently read the book, and it has become one of my top favourites in the sci-fi department. It really has nothing to do with the movies aside from the fact that there's war with the bug. I would definately recommend the book to anyone who hasn't read it.
oh man i forgot about roughnecks that was one of the best shows as i was a kid. gunna try out that torrent link mazer just posted. Ill be seeding it, if it works still that is

Haha me too. The book is definitely one of my top 15 though. Maybe it's book nostalgia that makes the series seem so cool.
