Many of us have addictive behaviors that are unhealthy. Many of us have had the mental strength to terminate these during our lives. Share your story of addiction and relapse.
For a period of several months, I played World of Warcraft nearly non-stop. It was very unhealthy. I rejected social invitations and called into work in order to play WoW. It wouldn't be so bad if it was a quality game like Starcraft Broodwar, but it is a terribly designed game with very low skill cap. It is full of bad mannered noobs who can't even be competent with the easiest game in the world. Right now as I ramp off of coffee, I'm feeling an overwhelming urge to relapse into that bad game. I am downloading the client again right now. It is 14 gigabytes of slaying noobs and harvesting worthless electronic trinkets. Somebody stop me.

I played WoW constantly, atlest 8h per day from EU release until a few weeks before TBC, would not say that it was a bad habit thou. But you sound like a lost cause man!

Um...does reading TeamLiquid count? I seriously think that anything can become an addiction.

Pac Man and comic books plus mountain dew. Those three things are what I had for hours on end till me dad took em all away >.<
edit:^^ Agree. I think thats my new addiction >.<

i'm doing a decent job of fighting off my BW addiction

don't reinstall WoW man, seriously, just stop the DL and add an entry for the download website to your host file

I'm playing Runes of Magic, which is a wow clone that replaces what little skill factor wow has with total gear dependency. It's a horrible game. I should be studying for finals, but instead I'm grinding dailies.

Thank you for your words of support. I left BW off the poll though because I feel it gives you skills that transfer to many productive activities. It makes you faster at any computer work and even improves your micro in physical work like driving, washing dishes, and building/crafting.

The guy working 80hr weeks is not an addict. However if you play BW an hour a day you need to go to rehab. Coffee addiction? If you wanna play WoW, no one here is going to judge you. Chance are no one where you live is going to either. Enjoy and have fun

Correction: The guy working 80hr weeks IS an addict, and his addiction is also more productive than wow by a factor of infinity.

Last.fm. Seriously, I've had over 9000 plays in 2 days. I keep going back there and just looking at my library.

I was addicted to tobacco for about 2 months. Very short compared to my WoW addiction. No question WoW was harder to quit.
I kept telling myself I liked the game, even though all my posts on the forum said otherwise and I would cuss at the flight times, raid times, farming times, etc etc. I couldn't just quit cold turkey. I quit once and kept reading the forums and blogs; tried to let myself down easy. But I went back with an alt; didn't play my main. Still I could feel the disgusting side effects. I was more angry, got less sex, and didn't sleep as much.. So I quit again, this time for good.
For tobacco, quitting just took a few restless nights and a slight pang of longing when I smelled a cigarette. No biggie, just didn't buy any more.

That's real big of you boss, must be a proud day for you and your family.

I took adderall daily (and sometimes more than that) for about 5.5 years. Stopped taking that about a year ago. I was ready though.
I smoked weed for about 5 years as well. Every day. Quit 2 days ago, getting ready for the military. I would like to test my ability to quit and live happily without substances, I haven't been able to do it before in my life. I think I am ready to try that now.

Definitely wow. Just such an awful game that should not be played by anyone with a 3 digit or higher IQ. It was really bad around late high school when I raided in classic. I raided like twice a week for 7+ hours for purpulleee itams. Later one i picked it up during WOTLK and just pvped and didn't play it too much. Actually the game is probably less bad than before and there's a lot more to do for people who only want to play for an hour or so at a time.

Where is pot? Even though it isn't chemically addictive it can definitely become a bad habit. It never really became a habit for me but I know people who it has become a problem for.
Wow is way worse though. I played it for years, so glad I'm done with it.
Oh and you should prob put prescription drugs, meth, X, snuff/snus/chew on there.

If smothing pot once every 4-6 months is an addiction then I guess you caught me you stupid fuck. I haven't been to a dealer in 4 years.
