Every time I try to quit I get horrible headaches and I feel like shit. Plus it's so nice to have a cup of tasty coffee in the morning ![]() They go away after a week or a few days. Best thing to do is just stop drinking it. Cigarettes were a hard one for me to break but I feel so much healthier and I barely even work out.

Relax, no one was insulting you It's just possibly the most infuriating type of response that you can make in a thread about addiction. Why don't we just all accuse each other of being addicted to various things instead of encouraging people to open up and discuss? It was an ignorant and rude comment and I felt like he needed to be put in his place and that is the end of it.

I agree with you Wr3k, out of all the warnings / temp bans I've seen, his comment definitely deserved at least a warning.

Alcohol was by far the worst, I hit an all time low when I had to be brought to the hospital, put on crazy meds, and was forced to stop drinking for a long time. I occasionally drink now, but it's nothing like it was. My liver shut down after only a 2 1/2 month binge. While there are lots of people who have gone a lot longer, mine really kicked my ass.

I still smoke pot though, and I'm trying to stop it. I was on a roll for about 8 months this year where I only smoked pot and did nothing else, and I lost 40 pounds. I guess I substituted exercise for drugs which wasn't bad. Drugs are wayyyyy too easy to get especially if you live right smack in the middle of Los Angeles, and the temptation is always there. I guess I gotta be stronger and resist those urges. All this drug talk makes me want to light up a spliff, I think I'm gonna go do some push ups

It was rather lucky for me that the game got worse and worse as it made it easier for me to leave it. I had some really good times in wow, and have some friends from game that I'm close with irl now, even though we don't play anymore. It was definitely a crutch for me when my life wasn't as directed as it is now, so I'm not sure if I can really blame it for my less happy times. It seems like more of an effect in my life than a cause. Now that I'm a happier person I don't have the urge, at all lol, to play. I do recognize though that while you're playing you're not being productive elsewhere so while it may be more a symptom it is very often a symptom that prevents you from resolving the cause. So my advice is this: 1: Even if you finished downloading that shitty game, even if you started playing it, go delete it. 2: Work on your long term goals. I'm with you on this one. I was addicted to wow for a year or so during high school int he Burning Crusade expansion, i would literally get home from school at 5pm, go straight on wow until about 3 in the morning, rinse repeat. And also all day on weekends too. I realized at one point, when i was asked by a guy from one of the top10 guilds in the world at the time, if i wanted to join them, he came on my server with an alt ect, i was really exited. Anyways i was half way through their application process ect and i thought "what the fuck am i doing this for?" I hated my guild they were pretty much all pricks, and i spent so much time on it, got terrible grades which affected my university place, and what for? Basically for the adrenaline rush, the good feeling of teamwork, and the feeling of actually being good at something, and others admiring your talent. I think a girl from one of the TED talks put it perfectly as to why WoW is just so addictive. It's because it's almost a perfect form of work, it's got a good balance between physical skill and hard work, and the whole system is so much better than a real job, you get instant feedback on what your doing wrong, and you get perfectly rewarded for what you do, if you complete a quest you get the exact reward you deserve, if you kill a boss, you get (well eventually) the item you wanted to show off and better your character. While in life you can often try hard, do something amazing, maybe in your work place or at school, but no one notices, or because of work/school politics you don't get duely rewarded. There is no frustration with not getting the reward from your hard work in wow, which i think is why it's so addictive, so rarely in life do you get rewarded at all, or relative to what you did when you work hard. Life in general is random, and working hard doesn't mean your life is going to go as planned and that you will get your reward at the end, life isn't fair, wow is. I stupidly, like you, went back to wow recently in the wotlk, started to raid again, but found that the game had got much easier, and the scripted encounters weren't as hard or as fun and challenging, so i quit. And i can't tell you how glad i am that wow has got worse and isn't the same anymore, because i think i would of gone on another self destructive mission during university, playing wow even more than i did at school, probably skipping lectures and ending up with no social life. Personally i find i want to go back to wow when im bored, it feels like the only game with enough content to keep a hardcore gamer like me satisfied, so what i would say to you is to do 2 things, fill the boredom that you think wow will fill, because wow wont just fill the boredom, it will spill right over into everything else, and secondly think about where you will be 6 months from now if you play it, what state you will be in, raiding until early hours of the morning, no social life and harming your work life too. That's not what you want, its not worth it. Personally deleting characters doesn't really work as i can get a character from 1-80 pretty fast anyways, and it usually means the gearing up of 1-2 months just adds to the overall time it takes me to get bored of high level raiding again, but if it works for you go for it, delete your account if u can. If you really can't stop yourself, despite deleting characters, i would say the best solution would be to get yourself banned from the game. That way you cannot return and if you do something bad enough you won't be allowed to register an account in the same name/credit card/email ect. although it might effect your Bnet account i dunno depends on if u use the same email/they are linked.
