i quit wow 2 years back, i played for about 3 years and became very addicted after 1 year of playing.
things about me when i was most addicted: *the game intoxicated me at it's peak, though not too much. *i had little short term memory and thus could not learn anything at school because i could not focus on anything. My brain was only half-functioning. *i lost weight, from 65kg down to about 55kg. *pale skin hehe, but that's of course because i didn't get vitamin D.
coming off from addiction 1-5 daysish: i got really really agitated, figity, psychotic basically it's like i'm starving to death and i need WoW to replenish my fuel. 1week-10weeks: boredom and depression(maybe? dunno if its depression). It didn't get any easier here. I gained my weight back and a normal mindset back in these days. Went from bottom of class to top of class in grades within a week after quiting, but still extremely bored and it didn't seem worth it. 10weeks+: i was on the home straight here, like 1-10 weeks except not as much.

Addicted to drinking water. If I do not drink water daily, my mouth starts toi get dry and I get thirsty

There was a period of time where i speedballed with meth+heroin a ton and got pretty dependent on it... it's scary to wake up in the morning and realize you need a fix to keep going.

nothing else came close to d2 lod for me

i played that game for 4 years, played it comfortably, helped lead a top ranked guild, and quit last summer because it has become to casual.
there is no addiction, it's just a damn good time. if you're ignoring friends and failing classes, you have much deeper problems than a computer game. I'm sorry but there is no way you lead a top guild and it didn't effect your social life and grades, either that or you had no social life or were unemployed. Being in a top level guild requires raiding at least 5 nights a week for at least 5 hours, you cannot fit that into a normal life when you consider all the grinding for mats and side quests you needed to do on top of that, it's just not possible. The only way i can believe you is if your saying that your guild was top ranked on your server, which had shit progress, which would make sense.

I have missed school (pretended to be sick) in order to play random video games, mainly counter-strike.

I have been raiding hardcore in vanilla wow (like 6 nights, 4-5 hours each night a week). Then i met my gf and lost intrest in the game in like 3 days, so weird. Glad it happend tho because otherwise i would have still been playing i gues.

I used to think I was addicted to games but in the last few years I've realised I'm just addicted to wasting time in general. Even when I'm not gaming I have a knack for finding useless non-productive shit to do, like watching TV series or surfing the web or even reading books. It's like my brain is automatically drawn to everything that won't make me a better person in any way and I have to constantly fight against it.

I know that all too well. Sadly I think its part of being human.

There is such a thing as porn addiction. Search the web, various documentaries have been made on it. And it's a rapidly growing phenomenon. Also, addicts don't necessarily watch it just as material to jerk. In such cases your body will let you watch porn 'endlessly' the way games would.

Blizzard has made the game so easy it takes 3 hours a week to clear the latest endgame raid instance on hardmode. When new content comes out these top guilds spend the first week after patch raiding every night which shouldn't wreck your social life too much. I mean you probably can get sick or something for a week and you'll still have friends after you get better.
I'm really addicted to this game though

It was really bad around late high school when I raided in classic. I raided like twice a week for 7+ hours for purpulleee itams. Later one i picked it up during WOTLK and just pvped and didn't play it too much. Actually the game is probably less bad than before and there's a lot more to do for people who only want to play for an hour or so at a time. You're saying someone could have higher than 3 digits in their IQ? You sure your IQ has three digits? Don't take that too personally, brother-man... I'm just joshin

I agree. I was on (A Team) pre-BC. We were in the Top 10 US guilds, and we had a minimum of 30 hours a week devoted to raiding just to stay anywhere near the top. I hear the game has changed a lot, but there's no way a guild who plays 3 hours a week can be as good as one that raids 30+. If anything, they're just more experienced than you.

Too much weed, I've got the money for it since I'm a college student..It's just fun, I sit at the student union all summer (there's like 20 students here for summer classes and I work full time hours). I get paid all summer to smoke pot and learn guitar. Could be worse. Been working on my game on women though too, it's great to study things you're interested in blazed.

Wow is way worse though. I played it for years, so glad I'm done with it.
Oh and you should prob put prescription drugs, meth, X, snuff/snus/chew on there.
Pot becomes chemichally addictive after years of use. You will maintain a constant state of depression when not smoking weed once you have been steady on it for a few years.

You can develop mental addictions towards it but unless you're getting laced marijuana you only have to worry about your own self control. Not trying to derail this thread though.

I have never understood the addictive nature of WoW. For me, the game is rather dry and repetitive, using the same old spells/actions over and over again on different creatures gets boring real fast. BG and arena are fun the first 10 times, and overall I just feel the low skill cap in WoW really takes away from any possible addictive nature.
BW, on the other hand, there is the constant drive that pushes you to get faster, stronger, better. Every time I lose, I know exactly what I did wrong. Next game I try to correct that error. I fail. Of course I do not give up, but I practice more until my weakness becomes a strength. And when I do, I start winning more games, giving myself an immense amount of satisfaction. And because the skill cap is so high, this cycle of continuous improvement goes on forever. No game has held my interest longer than BW (other than perhaps chess), because of the impossibly high skill ceiling and the constant drive to improve.
On June 15 2010 01:03 Zealotdriver wrote:I did it guys. ![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/JRhux.png) Next time you decide to quit, and assuredly, that day will come, give away your account or get yourself permanently banned. You need to completely sever yourself from the connection to the game. Unfortunately, whenever you first begin to give up an addiction, a massive hole always appears in your gut. At least for me, when I first gave up playing BW for 4 hours a day, something was always "missing." I found that for me, one of the most effective things to fill that gap was exercising, playing sports, and working out. When I work out or play basketball, I get that same satisfactory feeling I get from video games. So I advise you pick out a physical hobby the next time you try to quit.
