I don't think porn is an addiction, necessarily. Why? There's an end. Your body simply won't let you watch porn endlessly. On the other hand... when you're playing a game, you ignore your body's desires..... Porn triggers dopamine production in the brain, but no endorphins are released, thus it isn't the same as a healthy committed relationship.

Ironically enough I found WoW to help my teamwork skills. Doing 3v3 coordinating stuff transferred over into my later activities. Another one would be the ability to de-tunnel vision, learned after many faceroll losses in arena heh :p
As for my own addiction, I've been playing wow since it came out, nov 23 w/e year that was. And for a couple years I would get on right away after school and play until bedtime, and during the weekend I'd be on all day. So now that I think about it it was about 6-8 hours a day during earlier school times. It only got worse. I rejected friends' invitations and opportunities from school as well as getting a job. Eventually I end up failing a 2nd year of grade 12 and go to a school that offers you a few courses in just a couple months. Much more intense, interesting, and challenging than my previous high school. Now that I'm finished, I've been on the computer for maybe all of the day, every day, though I have made many bounces back. I went in for an interview for a job, as well as sending in several resumes to stores around the area. I've also been talking to girls lately, and one who I've known since the beginning of high school invited me over to visit her new place.
All in all I'm getting back on track, I was accepted to a university which I plan to go to next year and trudging forward to find a job. Unfortunately it feels as though my time with WoW has damaged my brain beyond repair. Getting back into RTS, I'm noticing I'm a whole lot slower and have a lot of "derp" moments as well as not feeling I have the same control over the game(strategy, tactics, mechanics etc...) as I did several years ago. My sub ends this sunday and I won't be renewing it. Time to get clean, time to get back to real games

Good job cancelling your sub. Don't go back, other games are so much more fun and rewarding and don't consume your life in the same way.

Why is caffeine not on here? Definitely one of the easiest things to get addicted to. I've been drinking coffee since I was like 13, and now I have to have a cup every morning or I get a headache.

Spoken like a true addict. If smothing pot once every 4-6 months is an addiction then I guess you caught me you stupid fuck. I haven't been to a dealer in 4 years. acceptance is the first step my friend, let it go.

I'd be willing to bet a lot of nerds here had/have a food addiction. Far more than a cocaine habit in any case. I know that until I was 15 I had a really unhealthy relationship with food, I put on a lot of pounds from obsessively overeating. Thankfully, I managed to work myself down to healthy weight. I still eat when I'm not hungry sometimes. I'd call that an addiction: it's a chemical high.

This topic reminds me of the thread about those who signed up to stop masturbating, wonder if that thread was closed. I don't think anybody lasted.

Wow is way worse though. I played it for years, so glad I'm done with it.
Oh and you should prob put prescription drugs, meth, X, snuff/snus/chew on there. Pot becomes chemichally addictive after years of use. You will maintain a constant state of depression when not smoking weed once you have been steady on it for a few years. Pot isn't chemically addictive. You can develop mental addictions towards it but unless you're getting laced marijuana you only have to worry about your own self control. Not trying to derail this thread though. Smoke, eat, snort enough of anything and you will develop somewhat of a dependency. If you take any chemical day-in-day-out your body will begin to think that it's a normal state and when that state isn't recreated you will suffer withdrawal. yes (i don't know if you are scientifically correct, I'm just going to assume you are) but how powerful are the withdrawal effects of weed? they are minimal. I've had worse withdrawals from coffee than i have for weed. i have taken all sorts of opiates, although never through the needle; never been physically addicted, i always spread out doses by at least 2 weeks. this is mostly because i have a ridiculously high natural tolerance to every opiate i have tried except fentanyl, gets expensive man. the only drug i feel i have been both physically and mentally addicted to is mephedrone, the only stim i have taken. WoW is nothing compared to drugs for me, i dont think many WoW players do anything "higher" than weed so they wouldn't know.. i really don't understand how a person can be 'addicted' to WoW... They're not physically addicted! It isn't a chemical. It's completely psychological, but what's the difference? Really? Coffee definitely has worse withdrawal then marijuana and is considered (in the scientific community) to be one of the most addictive drugs that there is. I'm just saying that people who say that marijuana has no physical dependence haven't smoked enough marijuana to realize that YES it does have a physical dependence factor and that you just have to do it enough for it the manifest. What isn't a chemical? THC and cannabinoids? If you don't know or care about the differences between physical addiction and psychological addiction I don't see how you're arguing about it. I get what you're saying and i have smoked 2+ grams a day for awhile at points in my life but I have just been told by more informed people than I that there is no chemical aspect of the withdrawal effects of marijuana. I do remember having eating problems but that only lasted for a week and have been told that is just because I was conditioned to eat only after I smoked. That would explain why I never had any sleeping problems as I never smoke before bed. I'll ask some people about the issue, but unless you're going to start citing sources, I'll have a hard time believing anything you say about the scientific basis of the issue. People say every non psychedelic drug is the most addictive drug in the world. I'm talking about WoW... I said earlier in the thread that if you put a chemical in your body day-in-day-out that you're going to be addicted to it.
