CoW isn't going to be able to rape until he has at least 200 replies. Let's do this thang gents (plus occasional females). But first a joke, "if she's tall enough to reach the mailbox, she's old enough to get the package".

Question though: Is this tool provided by your school? I may need to use a survey tool next spring for my capstone, and I'm well-aware of surveymonkey, but this seemed to get the job done. Good luck with your Thesis ![]()

Now, to address some posts: On October 29 2009 01:33 So no fek wrote: Finished the survey, was a shame there wasn't an option to elaborate on some of your choices. Personally, I don't like advertising in games all that much, especially when it's obtrusive as it can sometimes be. A billboard in a racing game, or a logo branded onto player gear in a sports game is fine with me. It actually has some justification for being there, and as long as it isn't too far in your face, I don't really have a problem with it. When an ad appears in an RPG or something, just for the sake of bringing in revenue, I think it ruins the immersion a bit. I wouldn't pay too much more for a game if it came free of advertising, unless the advertising was extremely obtrusive, and essentially required you to spend a significant amount of time looking at an ad. And in that case, I'd probably just find another game, unless it was something special. I would however play a game that had more advertising (once again, as long as it isn't too obtrusive), if it came with a cheaper price tag. You and some other posters shared this sentiment, and yeah, it's a sad limitation to using these kinds of surveys. So, to everybody who noted their thoughts about the survey and in-game advertising in this thread: I very much appreciate the extra effort! These posts are very insightful and I'm definitely going to look for a way to use you guys' posts in my thesis, to add to the quantitative results. On October 29 2009 02:05 Kinky wrote: It's only a $20 raffle D: Not like it matter. Done. That was the original amount. I updated it to 30 right before launching the survey, but I made a mistake somewhere so it still says 20. It's definitely thirty (30) (20+10) (15x2) buckaroos, though! I'd say that the chances of a TL respondent winning the raffle are devastatingly high. On October 29 2009 02:14 iloveHieu wrote: Done. What was your major during undergrad, Communication? The Belgian system is a bit different from the US system, I think. You pick what you want to do when you first enroll at the university (so I picked Communication Sciences) and it has a mostly set curriculum, with a certain amount of courses being free to pick. Takes three years to get a Bachelor's Degree, then one more to get a Master's, which is what I'm doing now. Hope that answered your question. I'd even post the whole thing if it weren't written in Dutch. I'll be sure to write an English summary to post on TL. Good luck with your Thesis ![]() It's not provided by my uni. I was going to use surveymonkey at first too, but then I took a peek at what other people were using, and it was usually thesistools. It has a very sober but intuitive interface, it's free (with some minor ads, and the option to pay a fee to get rid of them) and the ability to export to Excel or SPSS. Never used it prior to this, but I can definitely recommend it. Thanks again, guys. I'm simply blown away by the number of responses - I'll try extra hard to make my next blog a good one!

If you'd be playing some browser game though, and it had pop-up ads to keep it free, or something like that, then yes, that would count as in-game advertising.
