Played Defoe in brilliantly, defence had no chance! I'll get back to you after MOTD but I'm pretty sure he did that on purpose as someone else said. I think after his spins to make space he was a bit disorientated; then he looked up and saw Defoe in White (just like England) so he slid him in! Edit: Just watched MotD they didn't interview him or really say anything about it :S

You're not wrong. I think it's probably due to our defensive mindset, we tend to build attacks from the defence and choose to play safe when in danger by passing the ball back. In this instance I really do think he meant to play Defoe in. The way he just looks at him and slides the ball into his path.

1st goal, nice header (own goal, really unstoppable) 2nd goal, zonal defense (as usually, from corner) 3rd goal, penalty (gerrard muffed up)

This is really frustrating to watch. Diving wanker, there is absolutely no contact. He should get a 2 match ban at least.

Plenty of teams will complain about dives against their team, I would imagine AC will ask for UEFA to give them back their CL title when Gerrard dived. I think he dived. but if a punishment is to go through, the rules will have to change across the board and an 'expert panel' (already debatable here) will be employed. So, this rule not only apply in Europe but in every domestic league game, which is very hard. Also, what happens in International? or friendly? Because I remember very clearly that Gerrard (again, maybe I am biased here) dived in a friendly about 2 years ago and Ian Wright said 'We should do it because every other country do it'. What happens if this is to happen again, will he get a two match ban as well? I would like to think that rules should be written on diving, but not to apply it to this case, because it will be too sudden. Why not any other occasion? Only because SFA asked for it? Something needs to be done, for sure, but I am not too sure how it should be approached.
