I'm playing this too, nick Asta. Very addictive. ^^
I don't understand C&K though, so I stick with the original.

I actually like cities and knights better, but it is fairly complicated to learn.

That said I've actually seen the board game of C&K, and I don't like playing it because theres too many cards to keep track of. thus, I'll only play C&K online now.

Haha, when we stayed in Germany we bought this game and the seefahrer expansion pack for it. Such a fun game. It's probably one of my all time favourite board games for vacations, along with Sechs Nimmt. So much fun!

Played this when I lived there. A friend made a pirate version. He baked silly putty for the pieces.

Usually we discarded the rule about the bandit taking half your cards. It sucked to save up for two roads and a town only for them to go away. If you built the road one length at a time then the town, someone would know where you were going and take it first, which also sucked. I guess Sirlin would say we played a scrubby way.

This is such a great game.

I should mention that I'm the undisputed champion within my town limits. We held a tournament. I won.

I should mention that it's a luck game. There's dice in it. I once won a game even though i only got income from the number 4. Making 36 notes with all dice combinations on it evens it out a little bit, but the game is still carp compared to some other board games...

a lot of this game is based on luck...

the decision making process is usually pretty simple.

Whoever says this game is based on luck is ignorant. After you played it a while, you learn alot more and the games never last more than 30mins. The postioning of the towns are the most important thing. Numbers 6 & 8 will clearly come most often, and if you then rely on bad numbers to win it is your own fault! You make your luck in this game. With 7's at top on rolls, followed by 5 / 9, then 4/10 and much less 3/11 & 2/12. Rolls will be in the order they are supposed to in most games, and atleast on asobrain, it will even out to be as it it suposed to be if you get unlucky in the begining with one number. This way you can control your play. Aswell as position houses in places where for instance Lumber and Brick are on the same number, witch makes roads much easier to build. Also Ore and Wheat, so Cities so much easier to uppgrade. And Sheep / Ore / Wheat for longer games, development cards will give you the game. Positioning is everything. If you say that it is only based on luck, then you havent even tried to improve. It is so much about the small things, like where you place your roads, when you build what and when you take dev cards. However the only thing thats heavily dependent on luck during some parts of the game is the development cards you take. Sometimes you might not get what you need. But there is also % chance on that, so if you need a knight to move the robber, the highest chance of the cards are a knight. You can even increase this chance, by logically thinking what has already been drawn from the cards, and the chances to get what you need.

Please dont try to reason if you have barley tried this game.

But depending on the maps the initial starting order can completely decide the game.
And I don't think the game actively balances the dice results. Pretty sure the law of large numbers does that on its own.

asobrain balances dice results. I've decided this is a good thing though <.<.
Anyway, Phan2m is right I've been playing with him and a few other good people and there is clearly a way to win at this game based on knowing the mechanics.

It's all about the 2 for 1 ports, even though development cards are very useful late game.

This game deserves more attention. We recently bought this a few weeks ago and the fun it can lead up to is priceless.
