So....yeah. I'm going to have some time next year, and I was just wondering if anyone could throw out some suggestions for multiplayers games both my roommate and I could play next year. Cooperation would be fun, I suppose, but we can also do things like Starcraft or whatever. I have a one year old Lenovo T61 which can run things just fine, but I'm worried top of the line games and stuff won't be able to run.
SC2 and D3 are obviously on the top of my list, assuming they run on my computer. What else besides that? Maybe some MMORPGs? My roommate suggested the new Star Wars game coming out (Star Wars: The Old Republic)...anyone have any thoughts on that?
tbh i think console games are funner to play in person then pc games but i guess thats just me. My roomate introduced me to rainbow six vegas 2 last term and that was pretty fun to play co op. also if you're gonna have a ton of time you can pick up whatever the most recent edition of the champions of norrath series is, its basically a console version of d2 that you can play co op. any easy to pick up fps like halo3 is also fun as fuck to play online.
if u like mmos then from what ive heard kotor is pretty good. If you are not normally a mmo player a mmo probably isnt going to be very fun for you though
You should be able to run team fortress 2 with a high fps config, C&C red alert 3 has a fun single player co-op mode. Titans quest is a fun diablo style game you can play with a friend online.

Trackmania Nation Forever if you want to change completely from playing RTS. A really fun game, i'm still playing it after 3 years online. Like every game, be sure to have some maps cauz the nadeo's one are kinda boring, especially forever. The more the merrier.
Also Smash mario which is kinda fun especially with 4 players Worms, Quake3 (probably best since you're only 2 which you can have some duels or play with computers in ctf), and.... what else ? Starcraft obv :p
All the zones have public arenas to fool around in or solo, there are also special events, many zones, many leagues, a ton of different gameplay, and pretty high level competition (both for solo and team).
Everytime there's a topic like this, I post about Alien Swarm:

Videos do not do it justice.
Being down to just 1-2 heals, having all your team members in the red, with 30 seconds left of oxygen left and just.. a.. few.. more.. steps.. Epic game
There are many extra campaigns (off my memory, there are 2 basic campaigns, then you can download Telic campaign, Escape from Rhea campaign.. and possibly one more, I forget the name tho), you should be able to find them in the forums.
The missions are fairly varied in the non-basic campaigns =)
Codename: Outbreak (coop), Delta force Extreme, Nexus the jupiter incident, diablo 2, mechwarrior 4 with coop mod, Fear combat + coop mod(its free), Star Trek elite force 2 Coop, god theres so many, me and a buddy play coop games ALL the time! so yeah il be trying all in this thread + thx for sharing. especially that sons of solar empire one :D:D looks EPIC :D thx!
Secret of Mana for 3 player co-op (on SNES Emulator), we played that so often, and if it's too easy you can try the hard mod (http://www.hard-som.de/en/index.php) Right now I play Secret of Mana 2 (only 2 players) with my brother. Beside that the Quake1 co-op was pretty awesome.
Since it's with your roomate (so you'll be playing frequently with the same person) I think RPGs are the way to go. That'll make the experience much more interesting than finishing the same X360 coop-FPS for the twentieth time. I would start off with D2 to be honest. Maybe even baldur's gate. Also some turn-by-turn stuff, like HoMM3 (I love the expansion). You can also try out some nintendo RPG's if you like that stuff. Like Tales of Phantasia/Symphonia, Secret of Mana etc... Just to throw in a board game: play some Go : ) It's really tons of fun.
The above list is what I would do at least Some of it might entertain you.
I used to play subspace. I had one account before 01 but I don't remember what year I started. I just started playing a bit again and Trench Wars has far less people now. It's funny how some of my friends still play though.

Isn't Secret of Mana = Seiken Densetsu 2 and Secret of Mana 2 = Seiken Densetsu 3? Secret of Mana is only 2 player whereas Secret of Mana 2 is 3 player so I think you mixed it up. Regardless, they're pretty fun to play co-op. I think Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2) is better for co-op but that's my opinion.

I play Powerball Zone the most now under the name Winsome (Scramble League is going on now if you're interested in some 4v4 balling action). It's fairly active around 45-ish ppl from 9 PM to 1 AM EST. I used to play TWLB (Trench Wars Basing League) back during Season 6 when the team Spastic won the championship. RSHL (Hockey Zone) is the only other zone I play somewhat now.
There are a lot of long time players still around =).
There was a thread like this made at least a year ago, I would suggest the same things still. Quake Co-Op or Doom are fun as fuck. Among the many other games i suggested previously.
edit- oh shit L4D is so awesome, (suggest playing it on super hard mode because its such a short game).
