I can see why pp is a better method to display skill, as I never had any business being in the top 500 of players, but ranking up through score was probably the most addictive part of the game for me and it's a little sad to see that stat is not even view-able outside the top 1000.

Isn't it? Which score stat do you mean?
Rank decay because of other people getting better is real too, my old rank 3188 used to be at 3768pp when i had it but now it's 6619pp. Top X rank is a quickly moving target rather than a goalpost
I meant the raw ranked score, which has a top 1000 on the website, and otherwise I only see how much points until I pass the next guy.
But yeah the average player skill for this game has gone through the roof so not surprised to see the rank decay, but I can already feel that wall that I occasionally see people complain about hitting. A whole lot of practice and going no where has to happen before any sort of ranking up occurs now.
I see what you mean, you can't easily view PP or score / ranked score past the top 1000 unless you're individually looking at peoples profiles
Meanwhile on reddit: Some dude was testing tablets & drivers with a 3d printer, comparing the windows cursor output (post-driver) to the raw data from the device. Lots of interesting stuff shown. 6.3.9w5 - the "low lag" drivers - actually seem to predict the cursor position and overshoot the pen during fast movement or changes in direction; 6.3.10w2 and others add a lot of lag and average the cursor position across many polls
He made a custom driver for testing and then eventually refined it and posted it for actual gameplay, being picked up and praised by a lot of people. I've just tried it out and it seems to be the best that i've used so far from waving cursor around on desktop and a few maps while tired
There is a toggle-able smoothing function in this custom driver and you can set the amount as well, something i'd been considering for a while. 10ms smoothing (one extra poll?) seems to play well, 35ms feels more like the 6.3.10w2 driver i was using before. Overall it seems to have 6.3.10w2-like performance but with way less input lag and also less smoothing so just solid if it keeps working properly!
Also, wacom isnt really optimizing for osu with their drivers so thats a little unfair. Still pretty awesome that somwone can make a custom driver like that.
I was referring to the tuturu when I said "who did that". I get what you mean about the drivers though. Its a shame nobody at wacom realized that the best way to make the driver would be to give users control.
funny and disturbing to see this kind of shit going down
tl;dr osu client sends a bunch of stuff like hardware ID's and process list from your computer to whichever server it's connected to. One of the more popular server owners has been using this info to pretend to be people that have connected to his server on the official server, making fake multi-accounts etc and getting the actual players banned from real osu. osu support haven't commented or replied to some of those players asking about the bans; presumably they don't know/care or hold playing on those other servers as a perma-bannable offense anyway.
at the point you were restricted due to this kind of things, we basically have no way of proving either way, at which point we will likely default to presuming it was actually you doing whatever was done on your account.
"on your account" in this context presumably meaning on a system with your hardware ID's which are fake-able but not something that people can realistically get unless they're able to run a program on your computer
I'm not quite savvy enough to have an educated opinion on this, aside from that it's a dick move from the guy owning the private server.
Do these private servers use the same (or very similar) client as bancho uses? If so, it shouldn't be a surprise that this is possible, right? I mean, its pretty well-known how intrusive the client is.
I may be misunderstanding, I didn't even know alternative (score) servers existed.
I dont know for sure, but I'm willing to bet when you log in the client sends all that extra info, meaning anyone you connect to with the client would be able to grab that data. Doesnt matter how similar the server is to bancho since its the client sending the info in the first place.
And yeah there are a few alternative servers. Ripple is popular since it has its own set of ranked maps that includes tons of maps not ranked on bancho. I think this one was gatari? (a russian private server that occasionally lets non russian friends on as well). Could be wrong since this is mostly just a guess on my part.

Yeah, I got that. Rephrased my original post slightly to make it more clear

First impression of ripple is that it looks really good! I don't think I've heard of most ranked maps I see in other people's scores, so it might be worth it to check some of them out.
Fuck everyone involved in being grade A douchebags in the osu support/account/management shit. Theres absolutely NO good reason to be that big of a fuckhead about this stuff. It feels like little children are managing the game.
And no ephemeralis, this is definitely not how it has to be. This is how you want it to be.
Zallius just got temporarily removed as mod for an unrelated issue last night - he's had a lot of issues for a while now
As far as i can tell there was a second account created on his network/system for a sibling and Zallius was belligerent in dealing with it
For a game that is basically singleplayer with some co-op singleplayer i am amazed at the amount of drama that can come out.. like, it's a super cool game but on the people side, both community and moderation it's the absolute worst out of anything that i can name. It's a shame that stuff is this way :/

#osu chat is something between downright toxic and just a bunch of 10-12 year olds being fucking dumb. Moderation is handled by childish assholes who almost all seem to be on constant power trips. Peppy is a gigantic man child who doesn't understand that criticism is how you improve things (oh wait, isn't that what modding is? How the fuck can he support modding for beatmaps but be such a hypocrite when it comes to the game itself. the mind boggles.)
Literally the only part of the community I've ever been active in is mania, and that's mostly because when I started, the community was small, and full of people with experience from other VSRGs, meaning we weren't a bunch of retarded 10 year olds. Even now I have a hard time handling some of the dumb shit that goes on in #osumania, and the forums too (though once in a while juankristal shows up and tells people to stop being dumb...
I'd love to have mod powers, but considering how inactive I can be, and how I've clashed with... several people (like loctav and peppy) my chances of ever getting mod powers are basically nil.
