Depends on the mapping style and whether i know the song im playing (Managed the hard diff of This song but I still can't manage to finish This song.) I guess you're using x264 for encoding in OBS and veryfast preset (should be defaults) which is fine the most important things are resolution, FPS and bitrate. That vid seems to be 1920x1080@30fps on pretty low bitrate. For bitrate if it's just an offline recording, you can use higher values. Try: * encoding settings, 8000kbit/s video bitrate (quality balance 10) * video settings: 1920x1080@30fps OR 1.5x downscale (1280x720, lanczos) at 60fps. You could also maybe do 1920x1080@60fps but that's roughly twice as hard on the CPU as either of the previous options and needs more bitrate than them to look better you can improve quality further with advanced options; there's a cap on quality that you can remove by manually setting it higher but the default cap should be pretty great quality, just not amazing. Lowering/Raising bitrate will lower/raise quality, but eventually you'll hit the quality cap. aside from that i always record live when possible because cursor movement isn't represented ideally in replays. It's better than it used to be but still noticably worse than live recordings

I recorded both of these when I got home today... (Skip to 00:36 if you actually want to watch the play. I reset because I messed up the super easy note =P) This video has the option to jump quality up to 720p on youtube. This second one doesn't. I didn't change any settings between these plays. I downscaled to 1280x720 on 60 fps. Quality balance changed to 10. Max kb/s is 10k. I had to disable Aero to get my video to record again. (Audio worked fine. Not sure what the problem was.) Still using x264 with CBR enabled. (Not really sure what CBR is but I'll google it tomorrow maby... I had to disable it to jump Quality Balance from default to 10. I turned it back on trying to troubleshoot why my video wasn't recording.) Edit: Nevermind, I think I didn't wait long enough after uploading. Second video does have HD options now. So yeh. Thanks for the tips! Can anyone here recommend a decent video editor that is free/cheap? I want to be able to cut off extra re-tries, and edit out particular plays. I think I will mostly record live play now (didn't do this before because I didn't actually have the software until I decided I was impressed with myself!) It will be important I think to be able to cut out a few minutes of several hours of recorded play time. If I want to share it anyways.

This second one doesn't. I didn't change any settings between these plays. That's because youtube processing takes forever. It's up now. Don't use CBR for a local recording, especially for osu! Can anyone here recommend a decent video editor that is free/cheap? I want to be able to cut off extra re-tries, and edit out particular plays. I used a program called avi demux before. I think it was awkward to get+install (maybe shady download sites) but doing things with a program like that allows you to cut a video without re-encoding i start/stop video every retry but that's a pain in the ass to have done like 5000 times! Especially since i have to manually set the brightness on one of my webcams every time i cut video.

I edited my comment when I linked the videos here. When I was on youtube, it didn't have the option. When I linked here it did. What is CBR? I will trust your word and disable it again. But I haven't a clue what it actually is/does. I used a program called avi demux before. If someone can link me a good program, I will use it. Otherwise, I'll probably wait until I can talk to some editors from uni to find somethin' safe I can use.

What is CBR? I will trust your word and disable it again. But I haven't a clue what it actually is/does. CBR is constant bitrate. It ignores all quality control stuff and forces the encoder to use the bitrate that you set every second, even if it's streaming a black screen. With VBR (variable bitrate, default mode), you could set 15mbit for example - the encoder might use 0.1mbit on very easy scenes, 7mbit on average and 13mbit on the hardest to encode scenes. How it would behave would depend on the absolute bitrate cap and a quality control variable (such as "use enough bits to achieve X quality, then don't use more" which would result in easy scenes using a very small amount of data, hard scenes using a lot more and video quality being unchanged for the viewer) If you set CBR 10mbit, it will use 10mbit all the time, on every scene. File size would be ~44% higher, yet in the hardest scenes it would only have 10mbit to work with, not that 13-15mbit. CBR is used for video livestreaming sometimes, that came about because of stability issues with sending a large and highly inconsistent amount of data across a ton of different routes to viewers. If you have a million people watching a LoL tournament and one minute it's using 300kb/s and then something happens and it goes to 2500kb/s for 10 seconds, it can cause problems - easier to keep the same bitrate all of the time, even though it increases bandwidth used and worsens encoding efficiency.

Can anyone (who plays ar10 well) see a difference in how the circles look as they appear between those 2 vids? They're both ar10. This is really weird, i opened the first vid and it looked odd; checked the dates, it's a week before my comment about changed fade-in. I'm still not 100% certain that i'm not imagining it / just improved suddenly etc - but the feeling jumps out at me unexpectedly when i open some older videos still. LOL the sound and his face

I'm done moving out. However I don't have a desk for my desktop and my old keyboard no longer works. So buying a mechanical keyboard will still be in a while cause of renovations and thus I'll use my laptop. So, the 3 choices for cherry brown are as of the last discussion: -Cooler Master CM Storm QuickFire XT Mechanical Gaming Keyboard -Cooler Master CM Storm QuickFire Rapid-i Wired Mechanical Gaming Keyboard -Cooler Master CM Storm QuickFire Rapid-Tenkeyless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Still, I don't know if I can tell right away which switch is the best when I'll actually go the shop. Anything I should look out for if brown switches aren't the way for me?
