Why don't i have any mania mods? Random, being able to select how many keys you want to use, etc? I thought that stuff was in game, i just see all of the same mods as osu standard. What does HR do on mania?
edit: Found it, you have to click on the thing near your picture and set the mode to mania >_>
i prefer fade-in to hidden for controlling where my eyes go, the hidden thing expands far too far off the bottom and makes it difficult to time things IMO
Also, while Standard is all about Combo, it seems Mania is all about OD
I wouldn't say mania is about OD exactly, although OD has a wider range in mania than in std. Mania is about consistency and accuracy. What I mean is this: in std, if you have a low accuracy FC, you still have a much higher score than someone who broke combo somewhere in that map. In mania, although it's possible for lower accuracy to have a higher score, it's much less common. The only way that really happens is if you get significantly more max's or you have your misses clumped together such that the very small combo 'bonus' can make up the difference in score.
I found it very easy to lose a huge fraction of potential score/pp in mania just by having bad accuracy, like i don't really see much feedback from playing and suddenly i look at the score and i have 70% accuracy and a C ranking and a shit score even though it's FC - playing standard, i have hitsounds that are not overridden by every second map, and i also have indicators directly in my view for when i get 100's. In Mania, my eyes are just elsewhere and there is not really an audio cue for it
Well you said that your eyes would track the notes down the screen. that's honestly a big no-no when it comes to mania. It certainly does help increase accuracy, because you can see the note as it reaches the receptor, but your visual feedback is higher on the screen, and that's where you should really be looking (well, somewhere around there. different skins position it differently.)
Personally I use a combination of my own hitsounds (only time I use a map's hitsounds is if the map is fully keysounded, with custom hitsounds for each note, for example, djpop's mania maps) and the accuracy meter on the bottom of the screen. If you look at where my FL visibility window is, I had to adjust to looking a bit lower when I began playing FL, since before then, the spot I focused on was slightly above that.
It definitely takes some time to get used to the different feedback though, since standard places the visual feedback where the note was, as opposed to a fixed location onscreen. You're still in the early stages of learning mania, and since you're already used to how standard does that stuff, it's probably a bit of a pain to adjust to.
I'm actually really mad about this hitsound change in standard
Is this really what we have come to? I can't imagine a more unfun way to play a rhythm game. Why fuck with really really important stuff like hitsound volume without consent or even documentation? It's a nightmare to play anything >od8 or >od6(with hr or dt) now, which is basically 90% of the maps that i play. Peppy doesn't even play od9-11, he said himself that he barely plays insane difficulty maps (which are usually od5-7 on the lower end ones)
I'd end up from the noob video to frustrated state automatically.
od10 is still pretty doable i feel. I indeed changed hitsound volume a bit, but after that it gave no problems at all, aside from the retarded mistakes i made.
Well, i went from struggling very hard for 94-95% accuracy on some od10 maps, to playing with 70-80% accuracy. Without hitsounds as good as they were before i'm a little bit lost and instead of +-8ms, it's more like +-11ms so i just randomly float off the too early and too late edges without actually making any mistake in my mind. That's why i can play od9 and borderline SS some maps to 500-700 combo, struggle with 9.67 on shorter maps and have a complete inability to play od10 now - i'm just have that natural variance in timing, and i'm not confident enough in the beat timings to be able to hit them within single digit milliseconds consistently. Loud, consistent hitsounds and a metronome adressed that weakness, but it's kinda fucked up now. The hitsounds are quieter and inconsistent, and if i use the metronome - now, because the hitsounds are quieter, the metronome vs hitsound audio balance is completely off and i can't hear the hitsounds well over it (the effects volume controls both, they're not decoupled so the metronome is always overriding the hitsound sounds now) - It's just like with the same change, both of my crutches for playing higher OD well have been fucked at the same time with no reason, explanation or even announcement at all, it's insulting to me for them to lower the ability of people to play a competitive skill based game like that for some silly change

"SHOUTOUT TO POVO DO OSU! QUE SE NÃO FOSSE VCS ESSA VERSÃO AQUI NÃO EXISTIRIA E EU NÃO SERIA CONHECIDO. BLUE DRAGON VC É O CARA." - Shoutout to osu! people, without you guys this version wouldn't exist and I wouldn't be as known. Blue Dragon, you're the man.
and yes, I'm mapping this already (even though the editor is being horrible at the moment).
this is really damn nice to hear! (mapping the maffalda vid from my last 1-2 posts)
I think they fixed the scroll and adjusted the hitsound volume, thank god
not sure what to do about my aim issues aside from just play more
with huge jumps, on larger tablet areas i feel slow, and i have to move a lot of my arm around, so i kinda lose muscle memory - but with smaller areas, it feels hard to hit the circles. I guess that's most of the hard part of aiming~
Yea i agree. It also HEAVILY reinforces training upwards instead of training sideways, and developing extreme specializations - for example at one point i could get 180pp on a jump map with less effort than it took me to get 130pp on a stream map. I've been "training sideways" for a lot of the time in the last 2 months, even though i made a few good plays i still lost 300 ranks doing that (quite a lot considering i almost broke 3k) - eventually i will just be good enough to shoot for 2.5k+
Ranking is easy when you're just playing to improve everything. Every once in a while I play to get pp when I feel I've improved quite a bit, and grin about how easy it is, especially with dt. Imperfections are inevitable when you try to project your entire skillset into a single number, so I don't mind it as much. In the new system, as much as the old, it's true that specializing will make you hit a wall eventually. That's why multiplayer is important, you'll get inspiration on what area's you should improve. That said, multiplaying has made me clear how much improvement is still possible. I'm always the highest ranked and the worst player, at least when we're not playing low ar and cs5 or 6.
A lot of people seem to have higher rank than me, but worse top top scores. I have some pretty niche stuff like that 243pp od9 SS, but i cant just sit down and get 180-200pp scores very easily and quite a lot of people around 2-3k seem to have way more of them than me, even if they have no scores above 220
I like that RLC map but the speed+reading is a bit hard for me
i did some good stuff recently like the first 200 combo on hoshizora no ima HR with >99% accuracy, but overall i can't really sit down and FC a broad range of maps @220pp or even 200pp, my rank has decayed by like +12% already
od9.67
this is pretty standard play from me, 1x miss on first blind play and then miss/break ~1-4x per play for the next 25 plays for no particular reason. Damn good acc though
However they changed the directional sound is pretty terrible, since I'm deaf in one ear. I feel like the actual music track is changing in volume and not just the hitsounds because the music seems to go in and out now.
Yea i agree. It changed from being gamebreaking to a small annoyance to me when they adjusted it and it felt like hitsound volume went up 2-3x on average. I still didn't see a patch note or justification for it existing though, especially without option to disable. Maybe that's in the config file, actually?
Hvick's pen grip, something i actually wondered about for a while since he's using a small tablet area:
so #1 on osu has low end tablet, weirdish pen grip and a rubber dome keyboard :D :D
Finally i got this song SS. It's not too hard (od7, not even 5.1 star), but it's pretty annoying to do perfectly. And it's one of my favourite maps ever. Nold best mapper...
