I want you to take a look at how BC quantities change in relation to price. Do people buy fewer battlecruisers when the price is higher? I'd be surprised if they didn't. With EVE historical economic data, you should be able to construct a rough demand curve (and although I know technically constructing a demand curve like that has problems, it's probably the best we can do).
Additionally: a lot of mineral supply is dictated by loot drops, not by miners. So if you're going to construct a supply curve I'd take that into account. Additionally the biggest miners are people who don't care so much about can flipping.
Making can-flipping less of an issue for miners would not change mineral prices much at all.
there's historical EVE economic data? get on irc and we can talk about this

Just did the stupidest thing of my eve career; lost my mael on my second mission. Got webbed, killed the webber, went along with the mission, shield alert sounds and cap at like 15% so I pull drones and try to warp out. No dice. As I go into armor i'm busy trying to target the frig that is currently scramming me, but the lock is like 20 seconds long. Send out drones, and they manage to kill him as I'm at 10% structure. At this moment I'm already aligned and spamming warp without pulling drones and "warp drive active" sounds and as the ship is speeding up it blows up.
I'm pissed but whatever I'm insured so I'll just loot the wreck and buy back everything. Check my mail and the insurance co says I get the default amount for insurance- I forgot to insure my goddamn maelstrom.
Anyways, long story short (i've got to run off to work) between this and a long conversation I had last night with my dad about what I need to do to get into med school I've decided that Eve right now is not a good way to spend my time. I need to get all A's this semester to bring my gpa up (it's at 3.2 but that's not as good as it should be, as all the doctors I know tell me) and I have to start taking an MCAT study course and do some volunteering, as well as work 20 hours a week to pay for living expenses.
It's been a lot of fun with you guys and I may come back on every once in a while before 3/6/11 when my gametime expires to finish getting t2 cane so I can actually do something in case I come back.
So this is Nairobi Pitcairn signing off, at least until the summer.

Meh, just do what the pros do and cheat through undergrad.

Usual business in emol, some random dude canflips us in a bhaalgorn. We undock the following fleet: 2 rifters with tackle, 1 vigil with 3 webs, 1 torp raven with tps, 1 scimi, 1 drake and 1 scorpion. He is sitting 35km of station and gets tackled and webbed to death. He gets permajammed and cant do shit against us. The raven starts applying dps and he gets down to around 10% shield, when we suddenly see two basis and a guardian getting red to us and they can outrep our raven/drake dps. I decide to disengage because we cant do anything against 3 neutral reps. We all align to another station and FB squadwarps us out, we land on the station and dock up safely with 0 losses. Then the smacktalk starts.
[23:07:54] Iam Widdershins > you guys can't even kill a shield bhaalgorn [23:08:00] Iam Widdershins > you're so good at this game
Hes pretty right to be honest, we suck at this game. Our raven and drake (combined dps of <1000) couldnt outdamage 3 logistics, we should be ashamed.

Turns out this guy was allied with dark horses ._.
We lost thornton's cane to him before karah's little thing with a mistake from me. I wasn't too sure what a bhaalgorn was but thought we could try and take it with 3-4 bc's and a scimi. He had agressed us long ago and I knew we were running out of time while I was trying to get a fleet up and being undecisive about whether we should actually attack him. After we finally got some shit together I gave thornton the order to point him on station, waiting for him to attack back before telling everyone else to agress.
He finally attacked, we all undocked, and he was no longer red to us. He had (smartly or luckily? dunno) attacked thornton right as his aggression to the corp had run out, and he easily outdpsed the single scimi's reps and neuted/popped thornton.
Had I known more about Bhaalgorn's I probably would've avoided this whole thing, especially since we had so few people and were so disorganised. Meh, I know this for next time.

Hey guys, semi-new player here (been lurking TL since SC2 beta) who used to play eve back in 2008/9. A bit interested in going back to the game atm. Any major changes since the faction warfare patch?

wrote this @ work so prepare for a huge a block of txt. + Show Spoiler +so I am feeling frisky and decided to see what I could find in eifer. I warp in and start hitting up the belts looking for anything that could entail some fun. I warp from one belt to the next and nothing is really around so I decided to warp back to the emol gate. Now when I had originally jumped in there were a couple drakes on the gate and when I came back they were still there. So I decide to hang around and see what happens. I am on the gate at 0 when low and behold I get yellow box by the drake which quickly turns into a red box. I jump the gat into emol with about 95% shields. I let the corp know about it but no one seemed interested so I took the opportunity to practice gate crashing, had never done it. So I warp back in, forgot to mention I'm just in a rifter, and see there are 3 red guys on the gate, 2 drakes and a broadsword. I gate crash and continue doing this for about 5 mins to get some practice. I eventually just dock up in emol and go afk a bit. Come back later nothing going on still so I go back into eifer just to see what's up, there are 2 others in local so I throw up my dscan for some practice. I see a gang warp through but they just are passing through. So now local is just me and one other but I see 2 ships on my dscan. So I am having fantasies of a unoccupied ship that I could still. So I start scanning it down, first to a planet, then I scan dwn each moon in my fov and find the two ships, one was a drake the other I forget, well I find the moon it's on and warp to it, and I arrive to a pos with a red drake inside. Now I am talking to fb and vov describing what I see and the next thing I know I am being shot at then destroyed. Now I was sitting far off I thought, 50-60km, however it turns out pos guns have a range of around 150km, so I learned something out of dying atleast!

I see you guys met Widders...
Despite playing EvE for over 6 years and being apart of 3 alliance tournaments (winning 1). Widders still finds time to be a 2900 master leaguer (protoss).
I'm sure it will be fun.

Yeah Playing EVE is alot of downtime waiting for stuff.... not that surprising.
if it was hardcore WoW raiding it would be a different story

Pretty sure that all silliness aside he means that hardcore wow raiding takes a shitload of time, and he's right. So much silly stuff to grind just to make sure you can keep up.

If I knew someone was an active Eve-O pvper I'd immediately assume they had a lot of free time on their hands anyways. Its often very long roams for just a few minutes of the battle shakes.
Market whoring and afk missioning, I can understand, though.

All day long you can either pvp (solo or with a small group) or farm money/standing/LP. And then theres the LONG raid where you fight a few bosses with each fight being up to 10minutes and 1hour semiafk killing trash between them.
