The main restrictions on f2p that actually affect the game imo are the credit cap, restrictions on the number of pvp matches u can play, the inability to wear purple (top tier) gear, and the weekly limit on the number of times u can loot from final bosses in flashpoints (raids(?)).
That being said, none of these actually hinders gameplay or the ability to advance in levels/equipment much, so still a decent (and like the only) star wars mmo.
ofc to get the 12x exp boost you need to subscribe + buy the expansion anyway so.. im not sure why the f2p model is relevant

Nope.
Dont see why people expect the game for free in the first place, the F2P gives you more than enough, you can experience all of the storylines to 50 (55 forever if you sub for one month), which is one of the big attractions to the game. Its far more than what most other MMO's of its size and caliber offer for free. (What's WoWs nowadays, a couple hours worth of content? Its still 20 last i heard.) On top of that it's EA/BW and as much as a fuck up SW:TOR is perceived to be, they aren't asking an extortionate amount when its average sub price for a big-budget MMO like many others.
I'll probably preorder since im interested to see if they can revitalize their PvP and i definitely want to take advantage of the 12x exp for the story quests, since they are so damn good, i've even completed one (char to 50 / story) while my account was preferred status (non-sub) and it was completely enjoyable.

I don't care that there's severe restrictions on F2P, I just care which restrictions they picked. For example, I consider LotRO a more fair model and they lock all of the leveling zones and 2 classes, but give you the opportunity to do an insane grind (basically, level every single other class up to a certain level, unlock a zone, then run every single class through that zone to get the next one) to keep it free. There are also scenarios and stuff that you have to subscribe for.
Instituting a tiny credit limit that everyone on the AH abuses is bullshit. Not letting you equip gear that you are able to earn is fucking bullshit. Not being able to run more than 3 dungeons a week is bullshit. Not being able to do space missions is bullshit. Paying for a hearthstone is bullshit (I think you get a similar thing but the fleet pass which is what you really want is paid). The battlegrounds I could care less about as PvP is a shitshow in that game. The point is, they picked some of the most frustrating and infuriating restrictions they could, which makes me not want to play their game even if I did pay for it.
OH, and the character I played first is permanently stuck in a section of the floor from which I cannot teleport or have anyone help me out of (it's in a class instance zone) and I not only can't contact customer support, but I can't pay them for a support ticket. Which is also bullshit.

I recently started playing this again, and I must say that I really like the flashpoints and PvP! The flashpoints feels like being in a Star Wars movie and the PvP is interesting!
This, with the added 12x XP for story missions, which means that you only need to do the story to get to max level(no grinding missions), I recommend people to start playing this now!

The buff "only" lasts until level 55. I liked the game too, just stopped playing 3 or 4 weeks ago because the endgame is just too boring. You basically walk through the same raids over and over again. Since they only added two new raids with the last addon you are basically running the same raids for ~3 years. And once you hit ilvl 193 - which happens quite fast - theres not much motivation to improve further. :-/ Anyways, had a nice time with the game.

I guess it's the same problem as when it got released. But I'm just happy to be able to enjoy it a bit more, since this was the biggest disappointment in gaming for me. I waited so long for it, and when it got released I had fun up until max level, and then the game was over... Still, leveling with only doing story missions is fun, and will do more PvP and flashpoints when I get to 55.

I still think it's fun to play even just as a solo RPG with some mild teamwork things going on. You don't have to play every game for years and years at a time.

How well does this game's single-player stack up to previous KOTOR games?
Before you thing "wow what a pillock for asking a dumb question" hear me out: I love KOTOR and KOTWOR. But the thing is that there hasn't been a third game, and a Star Wars MMO looks to be pretty cool, but does the single-player stack up well? If I enjoy other Bioware RPGs, will this just feel like a (necessarily) watered-down version of one of their already excellent games, or does it MMO (will it blend?) pretty nicely? Obviously when you're making a game as big as what I assume this is, the content has to be spread pretty thin.
I guess another factor is how playable this game is without a guild, because I'll most likely have a few friends that might level with me, and then they will predictably quit.

If you want a KOTOR 3 then SWTOR is the wrong game for you. They put a lot of effort into the single player story lines and they are probably better than in any other MMO. But if you played KOTOR before you will be disappointed.

You mean like the endgame content? I can't really tell you about that because I didnt play that far. I never had a guild, just played the leveling part together with some friends.

But if you played KOTOR before you will be disappointed. How playable is this game without a guild? I had a lot of fun and I never made any friends along the way. Some of the stories are pretty dope. I finished the Agent and Sith Warrior stories, did Smuggler till Taris, and all the others except for Jedi Knight/Consular finished right before the Coruscant/Dromund Kaas line.
Agent is an amazing story from start to finish. It's like being James Bond, but instead of MI6 you work for the SS.
Warrior is pretty awesome compared to some of the others I've been told. I had more fun with Agent, but this was 10/10 as well.
Smuggler had a cool story but I hate Taris and couldn't slog it through.
All the classes (the 6 that I've played at least. I believe the other 2 do as well) have some kind of plot twist on the first planet that really gets the story going, and with the 12x XP you can really focus on the story, which is fantastic. When you take away the grinding it does start to feel like a KOTOR game again. That said, I'm cheap as fuck so I played it the hard way, F2P with no exp bonuses, and I still had fun between the grinding and story, and the occasional flashpoint.
One of my favorite things that they did was really flesh out Korriban for the Sith side. In the first KotOR you can join the Sith academy, and in the second you get to explore the ruins, but there's no option to join the Sith then and there unfortunately. Here you've got the same setup with a much bigger and better-staffed academy, and you really get into the treachery and competitiveness of the Sith.

If you are interested in a good singleplayer game this one is not for you. It's an MMO so it's meant to be played together with other people. That beeing said, some of the storylines are pretty good and enjoyable even without other players. Yet if you are looking for a good MMO with a strong singleplayerpart you should check out The Elder Scrolls Online.

It's basically World of Warcraft in the SW universe. So it's up to you whether you like it or not.

As long as you do not play a tankish character and do not want to achieve sth in the lategame (like raids), you do not need a guild. This game has a dungeonfinder, a pvp finder and a storyline for each class that you can enjoy without a guild. The problem right now is, that because of the 12x XP buff 95% of the players just rush through their storylines since it saves an enormous amount of time. So it's possible that you are not going to see many players during the leveling process.
I highly recommend to everyone to pay the 13$ or whatever it is in your country because, although they claim that SWTOR is F2P, if you are not a subscriber, this game is unplayable. You get less XP, walk slow, can't go in every flashpoint (dungeon), can't loot every item, can't wear all the items etc.

See my old post above for reference, but have they changed the F2P restrictions?

I played as F2P and I was happy with it. This is the ONLY mmo I have ever played so I'm not comparing it to anything else, I just had fun for almost a year with it and moved on. Now that you brought it up, I may go back and play a bit, perhaps I'll try the Agent story since someone recommended it.

I'm psyched to check out lategame. That was the bad thing when it was released, but I heard that the raids are quite fun, and I really enjoy PvP. Level 40 now, though, so will take a bit time to get there.

You can play PvP solo or with friends you find along the way. There is ranked solo queue for pvp, so basically you can go up to the top without ever joining a guild. With regards to PvE, it always used to be very guildless-unfriendly. Raids were 8 and 16 men, and it was always very difficult (read: impossible) for a random to find a spot in a top-tier raid. Leave alone top-tier, it's still very difficult to find a spot in any raid.
Maybe something has changed, I haven't played it for over a half year now, and before that I've been huge PvP addict with very little interest for PvE.

It's easy, still it's anything but top-tier or even mid-tier content. Very shortly after hitting level cap you are steamrolling flashpoints, and all you have left after that are 8 and 16 men raids. It's nearly impossible to join a group for anything but some casual low-tier operations, basically if you want to progress in PvE regard after hitting max level and doing flashpoints for about a week, you just have to join a PvE guild for a spot in a raid group.
