yeah cause having 2 factions a MMO works so well......
When will developers learn 2 factions is retarded, either player created alliances or min 3 factions. At least then the 2 smaller factions can team up to pvp against the largest/most represented side.
Yet another good game that has bombed due to lack lustre PvP, who would of thought, everyone wanted to be a sith lord?
Well honestly what's the point of being a sith lord if I'm still not allowed to drive my hover bike around indoors?
What better way to say "yes, I *am* better than you mr. imperial officer" than riding my hover-harley around in his mansion? Total fourth wall breakage!

Awesome, thank you as a previously hardcore WoW raider I can appreciate where you're coming from on all of that Complex fights like original 4H, or C'thun were the highlights of raiding for me...
So, would people be willing to give me their honest assessment of the game. As a big fan of Bioware and the KOTOR games, I'm seriously considering picking it up. I've never gotten into high level play in MMO's, but it seems that with the story system leveling in TOR should be fun enough. But, given the mixed things I've heard about the game, I'm not sure if i should try it. Would you recommend i buy, wait, or skip? If it matters, I'd be more interested in playing Republic than Empire.

Thank you for the answers!
50 guardian, 20 (and growing) vanguard. WoW hardcore raider (5 days / week) from vanilla until end of wotlk (no cataclysm). In vanilla also massive pvp (no interest in arena so no pvp in bc and following). LotRO. Some FFIX (didnt get to max). Early days UO - but nothing serious on a freeshard. Enjoying: Story. Grouping with friends and fooling around with them. Flashpoints / Ops. Plans: casual pve/pvp (2 hours / day^^). Change to make it better: Scalable / movable / skinnable(?) UI. Premade group pvp (not limited to 4 players) Worse: arena style pvp. addons/mods like in wow. Predictions: focus will be on pve / story progression. pvp will stay the bastard child.
What level characters do you have and of what classes? 47 sith assasin
What is your previous MMO experience? Linage2, Lotro, Warhammer online, Aion
What do you enjoy most about the game? Class quests and flashpoints.
What are your plans going forward? (hardcore PvE/PvP, mass alts, etc) i have always been a pvp player for the most part. i have pvp'd a lot in this game but although i think my class is a bit overpowered and i do great, i do not enjoy pvp that much in this game. it is not fluid, it is not balanced and afaik open world PVP options are limited (i am not 50 yet so cant be sure about that) instanced pvp is rly boring for me so even though i queue for warzones all the time i dont rly enjoy it that much.
If you have left, or are considering it, what are the reasons? (lack of content, uncompetetive PvP/PvE, etc) havent left but devote far less time than i usually do on mmo's.
If there was something realistic bioware could do to make the game significantly better for you, what is it? information on chat about each player. (class/lvl), better auction house. better crafting (atm everything but biochem is a joke. i am at 400 synthweaving/archeology/underworld and i can only make money off companion gifts.) looking for group/raid interface. open world pvp planets with objectives and strongholds/fortresses (dunno how illum is i aint 50 yet) make pvp rewards less random. opening 5 champion bags to find 2 empty and 3 with the same exact item is bad. make space combat pvp instance.
how about worse? make skills all gcd dependant. hate this style of combat and i wish everything was animation based.
What are your predictions concerning the future of the game?
1 year with ~1 million people worldwide then either f2p or ~300k subscribers. pretty much what happened to aion. ofc focus will be on pve and pvp will stay on warzones and arena style. wow fanboys always win
Moreover, combat is rly bad and engine delay is unacceptable for a 2012 game. every sub-based mmo out there has by far better combat, even wow. also texture detail is equivalent of a 2003 game(on max settings).
i will play this game at least untill diablo3 is out, or if aion f2p is actually good.(that game had the best combat system for an mmo ever, too bad pvp was so imbalanced with ranged classes)
Q&A: What level characters do you have and of what classes? 50 Assasin, 25 Sniper
What is your previous MMO experience?: Lineage Series(I & II), Everquest (I & II).... WoW/Aion/FFXIV etc.
What do you enjoy most about the game? PvP, Class Lore/Story line
What are your plans going forward? (hardcore PvE/PvP, mass alts, etc): PvP-ed & PvE-ed (HM level/certain nightmare).. PvP is decent..at the same time disappointing
If you have left, or are considering it, what are the reasons? (lack of content, uncompetetive PvP/PvE, etc): PvP & Dev bug addressing issues - Late game content is very buggy, boss resets, new 1.1 ilum spikefest etc.
If there was something realistic bioware could do to make the game significantly better for you, what is it?: PvP class system revamp, mitigation is not working for spells, armor pen is a joke (thats how operatives 3 shot lowbies, however if u understand class mechanics, operatives get 'behind' once exposed + dotted / kited).
how about worse? Bioware claims they have access to Mythic PvP devs.. and if their PvP team were the jokes behind Warhammer online, expect a mass exodus.
What are your predictions concerning the future of the game? Depends on what BW does, if the game remains at its current state, no amount of new content can save it, FPS issues, Animations & GCDs affecting skill usage ruins rotation in pvp (especially melee), PvE content being highly ranged favoured (Firelands WoW style), End content being a chore to run (just fps over and over again, once you are done with 2-3 HM Fps it would take you about 2 hours <False Emp 1h, Ilum 35min, BT 25min).
I feel that the game was rushed out too quickly, and the closed beta test wasn't well enough, engine could be improved further.

It's like a worse WoW with a Star Wars model mod. Some people are calling it the TORtanic now.
Actually the illum change has made it really fun on balanced servers from what I have seen. On my server on illum its about an equal republic vs empire and if it wasn't for the lag it would be way way way to much fun. I am having a blast on it with lag but I could not imagine it without or at least reduced so I get more then 10-15 fps
What level characters do you have and of what classes? 37 Assassin 19 Bounty Hunter
What is your previous MMO experience? Guild wars (High-level PvP, 3 years.) World of warcraft (Raiding 13/13 heroic from cataclysm till FL patch) Lineage 2 Anarchy Online
What do you enjoy most about the game? The storyline and the PvP
What are your plans going forward? (hardcore PvE/PvP, mass alts, etc) Hardmodes, perhaps some light raiding, mainly premade PvP.
If you have left, or are considering it, what are the reasons? (lack of content, uncompetetive PvP/PvE, etc) Not considering leaving, the bugs will be fixed soon enough. Content seems to be coming at a very fast rate.
If there was something realistic bioware could do to make the game significantly better for you, what is it? Give a better / customisable UI, Fix the slight ability lag.
how about worse? Dont understand
What are your predictions concerning the future of the game? Hard to say, if they keep up with content and can fix the underlying issues (bugs, ability delay, UI) it will be brilliant, untill then, who knows.

No way to demo or trial yet. Will most likely come in the future.
In truth, it really depends what you are looking for. I loved KOTOR and the quests do have a slight ''KOTOR'' feeling to them.
Some people say, the game is worth it for the single player alone, but that would mean you would quit it after a few weeks once you hit the cap and the story progression ends.
Personally, I think the positives more or less end at the quests. (as of now)
The combat in the game is what many people refer as ''clunky''. This is partly due to the delay issue that's been going around, but also due to bad design. (Old engine or what?) Watch some PvP videos or w/e at YouTube and see it for yourself. Frankly, to me it seems like it's a step down from WoW combat. It functions the same way (run next to a person and circle him with WASD while spamming buttons and jumping around.) but it just feels a lot less fluid.
The graphics are a disaster for a (near) 2012 game. Guess they wanted to pull a WoW and allow people with low-end PCs be able to play it aswell.
Personally, I think they should have just done KOTOR 3 instead of this. You should also notice that some people (republicans especially) have said that the game feels more like a single-player RPG instead of a MMO due to lack of players in certain areas and the introduction of companions. (which I personally think is ridicolous for an MMO, I mean really.)
As of now, endgame content is plagued with numerous bugs and the lack of republicans shows in PvP to the point that is no reason to even try PvPing in certain places. Next patch will introduce some fixes to the PvP imbalances though.
I have faith that most of these things will be fixed within time. (Surely they will.)
But the bottom line is: If you take away the quests (that they did a great job with) your left with an MMO that is below average. Especially for an MMO that was released almost in 2012.
My recommendation? Wait for trials to come out and test if the gameplay in general bugs you the amount it bugs others. Or if you love StarWars enough, buy it and treat it as a RPG, and who knows, maybe these things won't bug you at all and you fall in love with the game. (Like many people have.)
I am considering picking up this game as well. I was a WoW player for about 4 and half years. I was into the arena scene when it was big and competitive (TBC and most of WOTLK); however, cata just killed the WoW arena for me. Has anyone, at max level, tried out the pvp system? If so, how is it like? Is it similar to WoW arena? Are there battlegrounds like warsong/ab/eots...etc? Any information regarding the PVP system would be much obliged.

there's no arena and and 3 warzones (battle grounds). one is like AB (capture and hold bases), one like strand of the ancients and he 3rd is a kind of capture the flag, like warsong, but its not a flag but a ball and you can pass the ball to team mates. i was a huge PvP fan in WoW and compared to WoW PvP, it totally sux in swtor.. the ability delay makes it soo hard to play and somehow the warzones are more demanding than the rest of the game.. normally i play with 30-50 fps, but in all warzones i have only 15-20fps, even if i reduce every setting on low. i canceled my sub too today. like others said already, the game is worth the pricefor the story and leveling experience, but not a subscription

leveling 5x slower!? did you do a lot of pvp? i did no pvp at all during leveling and i have around 6 days played when i hit 50. thats nearly 150h! am i slow or do you really want to spend 700h to reach lvl 50?
lol....i had to download my friend's game folder cuz the fking patcher wouldn't work.
now after the newest patch, I have to do it again. fml and fk bioware. they cant get a damn patcher to work?! the funny thing is they tell me to use the fixlauncher.exe in the game directory but it does absolutely nothing. ugh....it just keeps downloading 12 gigs of crap even though I have already downloaded the main assets...3 times.

It took me around a week real life time per 50 (not /played), which is a big joke to me, even warhammer was harder. I didn't do pvp until 45+. MMO's are way too easy these days, it was the same thing with rift, hit max level in around a week, all content easy, month or so later stopped playing.
Infinite grind like L2, aion and PS have is the best imo.
What is the /played time though per 50? A week real-life time means nothing, you could be playing 18 hours a day. In which case, around a week for you isn't a joke for anybody else that can only play for a few hours a day max (i.e., the people with jobs).
Granted, I have severe alt-itis, but my main character (Guardian) is still only level 43. Not sure why leveling would need to be 5x longer, any intelligent player knows how to play their class well after 150 hours of gameplay. And unintelligent players wouldn't know how to play their class after 700 hours of gameplay.
Infinite grinds are for the sadistic. That shit has been dead for years.
