So I was reading this topic about how CGS has gone out of business. Apparently they broadcasted a tournament for DoA4 -- yes, of all the fighting games they could've chosen, they picked DoA4 .
I've heard a lot of crap about DoA4 but I'd never seen any actual gameplay footage before. So I searched on Youtube and found the CGS DoA4 2008 World Championship Grand Finals:
+ Show Spoiler [Dead or Alive 4] + + Show Spoiler [...] + I'm speechless.
Now correct me if I'm wrong, since I know nothing about DoA4, but it seems like the only thinking in this game consists of which move to do on wake-up or after a blockstring...

I wasn't paying much attention to the actual game because all the bullshit surrounding it had already melted my brain. I cracked up when they showed what appeared to be one of the player's mum's giving them a pep talk like a boxing coach might hahahaha.

Ditto. That was absolutely RIDICULOUS, wow. It looked like a scene from WWF or something.

I think that should be the coach/franchise manager for the team.

Truth
DOA is as shallow as VF is deep/technical. Polar opposites, them.

Ok since i seem to be the only one who at one point played DoA with any seriousness i feel the need to defend the game at least a bit, and while it's definitely not a super technical game there is a level of sophistication to it that can warrant serious competition....
That being said, those player suck donkey balls at that game.
Seriously, that was some of the worst excuse for top level play i have ever seen. Both players were terrible at BASIC things....like idk throughing out the wrong counter in a damn STRING for the love of god...the finished the strings for the love of god. real top players should destroy that with good yomi. basicly since you have counter throws to use if you do a predictable string while your foe isn't being juggled then it should be punished.
Also i always thought this was a fucking given but i guess i am wrong, the biggest source of missed 100% sure thing damage was punishment throws, if they do finish a string and you block it usually you will have a big enough frame advantage to throw them without fail. again this is the basics of basics and yet i see at least 3 missed throws just on casual glance, and i haven't played in 7 months.
NO korean backdash, NO fuzzy guards, not even the highest damage juggles.
Did they pick people out of the audience for this one? never even heard of these chicks either. Where is black mamba or king or a respectable player???
god GCS fucked that one.

CGS has separate competitions, one for male and one for females trying to steal points off Vanessa because no one was good enough to actually ever be favored to beat her.
