+ Show Spoiler [Viper crossups and mixups] + For that matter, all four new characters in SF4 (let's just ignore Seth who's a boss and Gouken who's required to have some shoto moves) are rather mixup happy, no doubt to try to attract fighting game fans that don't love the SF2-based character movesets. /end captain obvious analysis for today.

It's like how in SC2 every unit has to be a cliffjumping teleporting doohicky with rock/paper/scissors damage... it's just the "modern" way to design things.

Just talking SF2 series... Blanka Gief T.Hawk Honda ST dictator Notable that SF4 Gief is still very much a "get close, do mixup" character in SF4, though it's completely braindead easy to do so in SF4 (in terms of execution barriers to his necessary tools). SF4 dictator is a bit more poke/footsie oriented than he has been in the past, though. SF4 Blanka is just CvS2 Blanka with auto-RC'd electricity and safe ball.

His needed tools include a lot of 2-frame links and really good positioning, safe-jumping. He's easy to play and win against people with.

The point I'm making is that it isn't exactly hard to get to the point where you can actually worry about positioning instead of "oh can I do this move" very quickly with SF4 Gief as pretty much any spaz on the joystick will produce your desired move. Which is the case for everybody else in this game (except for characters with QCFx2 motion supers and DPs, apparently), they don't have 2F startup grabs. And that just makes it even easier for Gief to be the "lol I got close time to do stupid mixups" character that he loves to be. As much as I want to like it, SF4 is just a badly made game. Capcom better have an arcade patch in the works, in any case; SF4 arcade popularity took a pretty major dive this past month.

Edit: In case you guys haven't heard of it, here's a video of Rose Ball which they talked about on the last few gootecks podcasts. He's even gonna host a Rose Ball event at Bar Fights, which will basically be more hype than anything there.

(Although not as eye-melting as the one in my spoilers.) Oh no..... Oh no............. I was going to link to some of the later pics as examples................ You guys remember that totally awesome 3s Hugo player, Hayao? The guy who is probably the hero for countless Hugos and other low-tier players? Apparently some of these pics are called hayao_002.jpg, hayao_013.jpg, hayao_21.jpg, etc. .......... Could it be the same guy.....? Actually, now that I think about it, he DID dress up for that one SBO, when he was with Kuroda. Maybe it wasn't the only time. Well, hopefully I haven't crushed anyones dreams, lol. ![]()
