2. Joystick buttons > gamepad buttons: - Every joystick button except mk is literally at your fingertips. - You can press them almost instantly, unlike a pad where you would have to move your thumb or finger to the button first. - You can "drum" or "piano" them, which is impossible on a pad. - You can tap a single button repeatedly with two fingers, which is impossible on a pad. - You can do "kara-cancel" moves more easily, since it's easier to time your joystick button presses than trying to coordinate your thumb and index finger in the same way.
On a side note...I'm not sure about high-level pad players of fighting games, but it turns out high-level pad players for 1p games (e.g. MegaMan) all use different and unusual right hand placements (i.e. not gripping the pad by the handle). These allow them to mash different buttons faster, have access to all the face buttons better, and hit start or select at ease as well. In other words, they could do the kind of things you quoted above on pad. It's different depending on the game and the player though. Or this is at least what my bro told me. He's an admin for SpeedDemosArchive and has met many of the regular contributors in person.
Of course, instead of (ab)using the pad with claw grips and other contortions, you can play the normal way on stick.

been using pad since SNES sf2. so yea i kind of refuse/suck at using stick. but generally even i agree stick is better

yeah this is true one of my friends plays tekken competitively and he uses pad
his right hand doesn't really grab the pad, he just holds his hand over the pad, and uses index and middle fingers to drum on the buttons.

TV in the arcade that shows an update ticker for player stats / match replays / arcade rankings (solo and team) with a faux news theme. (Apparently availiable in only Japan and Korea)

this isnt a video, just a question about nostalgia
friend of mine selling me an MVS arcade system fully functional for less than 200bucks with 2 games (i dont like them very much, but im not being picky.. KOF 98 & 2002) would you buy it?
|
If someone was selling me KOF 98 & 2002 and I lived in Mexico, yes, I'd buy it. 98 is big over there. :o
|
Old SNK stuff is very rare, and you could probably sell it for more than 200.

i know kof 98 its big over here.. i just prefer garou or last blade =P, ill just have my cabinet for nostalgic issues.. mayb ill set it up at my roomie cafe for free challenges
Also looks like the cabinet itself needs some mods.. while i can stand IL or HAPP joysticks i CANT stand HAPP buttons..
Also, my Hori EX died.. now its time to make her better.. anyone with previous experience modding it? want to insert a JLF and 6 sanwas.. im kinda sad because my GF gave it to me (its a DOA stick) but i guess kokoro should rest in peace

Modding a Hori EX and keeping the old PCB in it's a huge hassle since the thing's so thin. If you want to replace it with a Playstation Dualshock PCB then it makes things a lot easier. Also switching out the stick is really tough too since there's such little clearance. If you have a dremel or are patient with a model saw then it's doable, but you gotta cut off a lot of material to fit the stick. To stick in the buttons, there's this little tabs that jut into the hole that you have to file/grind off in order to fit in the buttons.
It's completely doable, but it takes a lot of time and effort (especially if you don't have a dremel).

From 1up preview of BB which has snippets of an interview with Mori of ASW, source (bold added):
We now expect fighting games to have a strong online matchmaking system able to deliver consistent matches without game-marring lag. As a designer and a player, Mori-san agrees. "When you play a fighting game, you're fighting on a level of one or two frames. Any amount of lag will change the game -- and it won't be the same game." Super Street Fighter 2 HD Remix proved matches can be played in optimal conditions thanks to its outstanding netcode by Backbone and Tony Cannon of the online matching making service, GPPO. Can BlazBlue offer the same "lag-free" experience? For now, Mori-san can't commit to any promises, but is proactively looking into ways to bring the arcade experience as close as possible. "There's a lot of tug of war between GGPO and its use," says Mori-san. What he can promise are other online features, including the ability to record matches, match lobbies of up to six players, leaderboards, and rankings. You'll get your chance to play BlazBlue, in a tournament like EVO or battles fought online, in summer 2009 on Xbox 360 or PS3.

Oh god, GGPO on ANY game would be awesome. Shit, if there was a Barbie vs. Cabbage Patch Kids fighting game with GGPO, I would be on that so fast. Being able to save Replays online and etc. would be really nice too.
Btw, I cancelled my order on a 360 TE Stick with a Cthulhu board, so hopefully that makes someone out there happy. I already have customs anyways, so there's no need to spend 200+ bucks on another stick. Gonna spend the money on some music gear.
