I agree with most of what you've said here save for the last part, it's not every hero that has a difficult attack animation, but yes a good amount of them do, definitely a majority. I find the best explanation of HoN/DotA in comparison to LoL is like playing guitar as opposed to Guitar Hero. You get the motions with guitar hero, but you lack the fine detail; last hits/denying of creeps/towers, juking, warding/counterwarding more than 1-2 spots, team make-up and synergy.
LoL has most of these but to a much easier (for lack of a better word) extent. I think LoL is a fun game to just hop into and mess around, not play seriously; like doing team games in SC2, but HoN is generally more rewarding for me as it is more competitive, like 1v1 in SC2.
I'm full of analogies. :D
I do not agree with your analogie. You may want to compare playing electric guitar to classic guitar.. Both game have different mechanics. LoL is mostly about Team battles and Push timings, HoN/Dota as harder game mechanics to learn as a whole, but both games defnatly has competive gameplay that isnt exaclty the same.
I'd start the conversation again about how wrong you are, but I think Chu's words (Ranked #1 in LoL solo ladder):
"seriously though I’m glad I got to try League of Bads, now all my arguments vs LoL will be valid. Well made casual game, donkeyshit competitive game. There is only one way this game can be played at top level and that is passive farm-lane-entire-game, with its metagame heavily reliant on a stupid free blink that probably plagued that game since the beginning of time. "
HoN is harder. LoL is cool in it's few unique ways, but HoN is competitive, LoL is casual faceroll.
Chu isn't even close to ranked #1 in solo.
He was ranked #1 within weeks of him first playing, and I don't even see how that matters. He's better than anyone who's ever posted in this thread at both HoN and LoL.
No he wasn't. You're confusing him with Chaox. I don't ever remember seeing him above 1900. He was probly just fine but he didn't get dat ratin.

I'm not going to argue with you when all you say is "no he wasn't" when the entire community recognizes it as true. Also you ignored the much more relevant point.

He isn't even close to Rank 1 because he no longer plays, he was, at one time, Rank #1.
Can't find an actual screenshot, but I feel this speaks for itself.

He means it's too late because as you said, most of the population is moving to DotA 2 once it hits, so they're just trying HoN out to hold them over; why not? It's free now. Though it's all premature speculation, I do believe if they did this, say 6-8 months ago, then it would have been a more effective way to attract and keep more players; like I said, it's all speculation, so time will tell.
If you read previous LoL forum threads, you'll see reports of him being 1st/2nd in solo ladder. He's chu8 btw, currently right below Chaox on the solo ladder.

Also about the whole HoN->DotA 2 thing.... hmm. I was initially under the impression that DotA 2 would absolutely destroy HoN's playerbase, especially with that tournament announcement and all the vocal pessimistic people in the HoN community complaining and threatening to switch.
But earlier today, after watching a bunch of HoN streams and inhouses, it seems like the HoN players who were able to get DotA 2 beta invites actually prefer HoN better (one of them was Kebap I think, also H4nni refused to play DotA 2).
So.... I'm a bit iffy now. Was totally under the impression that DotA 2's game quality would wreck HoN and LoL to the point of unanimous switching (similar to a majority of RTS players -> SC2), but now not too sure given that a (single yeah I know...) pro player actually prefers HoN better. Even though it's still in beta.... if they're planning to have a tournament on it, I can safely assume it has most of its features down.
sidenote: klops seriously? just do a quick google search of "chu8". you'll find that he was able to get to #1/2 within 2 months of playing.

Yeah, it's definitely hard to say because it is still in beta and these players are still playing competitively in HoN, so it may even be like BW and SC2, why go to another game if you're already one of the best in your current game? One thing I can definitely see working in HoN's favor is that some of their unique heroes are pretty damn fun. similar to what keeps me going back to DotA ( Love my techies, templar assasin etc.>:D ) could possibly keep me, along with others playing HoN even after release. I try and remain hopeful because S2 really did a great job of balancing and creating new heroes and not just porting things from DotA in my opinion.
