They really need to start using player contracts or the scene is going to just become a huge clusterfuck
Hopefully it makes gamescom actually exciting and not just a chinese pubstomp

Nobody played him at upper levels or properly until Piecat started using him in then IDEC iirc.
Please, people used Huskar and we all know how that shit went down.
Edit: I want to say it's because TC and Batrider came in at the time, or maybe it was something else, but I remember when Invoker was first put out people didn't really touch him because of some other and more OP shit was going down.
Edit 2:
He came out during 6.50, yeah he saw no play as long as 52e was the competitive map.

You mean the very first time before he was removed until 6.50?
If so, I didn't play at the time so I wouldn't know.

i only play dota pub for about half a year and never caught up with pros. anyone mind giving a bit of background for the best players in the past year? all i know from my friend is that the most popular strategy nowadays is 3 carries and 2 roaming support that puts wards everywhere

Ya most strats now are midgame push, high mobility gank strats with a carry that does very well with few items.
Edit: MYM vs GGNET casted by Synderen (<3) now at http://www.own3d.tv/live/19674/MYM.TV_with_Synderen

I just randomed monkey king, apparently he is f2p now, and my team tried to kick me, some of them wanted to try him and were a bit mad that i wouldn't swap.... I had a lot of trouble at first trying to chain his skills together when ganking, gave up and just used whatever skill was necessary and did much better. I went to practice mode and tried to chain his skills together and still had trouble, i think i need to look up some video tutorials. I thought i have seen people in practice mode boost levels/get lots of money but i could not find a button for it, is there some "show me the money" command I need? Or am i just blind/

there's a button in the top left corner. sometimes it won't show up for me either but i just hit f10 a few times and it'll be there

if the button isn't in the topleft hit f6 twice and it'll pop up

So I'm considering playing HoN but I hate DotA and like LoL, will I like this game? I just like fun hero mechanics/fights and whatnot.
|
Why do you hate Dota and like LoL. You haven't told us much information here.

On August 10 2011 14:42 SirMilford wrote: Why do you hate Dota and like LoL. You haven't told us much information here. I hate DotA because it seemed very clunky/sloppy/uninteresting every time I played it -- I probably disliked it the most because I was very into 1v1 WC3 and frowned upon "silly custom games" more than anything... a lot of my bad friends, who went on to be bads at WoW, were really into DotA and that just furthered my belief that it was a game for newbs. I don't hold that belief any more, I'm just explaining my history ;p
I like LoL because it has a great art style (HoN has great graphics as well), it is very often updated with a new hero which is amazing for keeping the game from growing stale, and LoL has the rune/mastery/summoner spell deal that lets you significantly customize the playstyle of your hero, moreso than just by item builds (does HoN have anything like this? I'm clueless).
|
Hon doesn't have any of that customization outside of the game. You work with Item and Skill builds inside the game instead. New Heroes are coming out at roughly once a week now and the last few have been pretty fun (master of arms and monkey king).
Hon's items are a bit different though. There are barely any "stat stick" items which just give stats and passive effects. There's lots of unique effects and activated abilities.
|
Once a week, holy shit o_O
That's cool though, I haven't been able to take a look at the items. One of my worries is that HoN copies DotA too much -- I also like LoL because it is its own game (as far as I can tell), and didn't copy the dota terrain 100% like HoN seems to.
Does Hon have many characters that are basically rip-offs of DotA characters? Did it try to just port DotA to the HD generation? That's my main concern.
|
Honestly, if you didn't like dota you won't like hon. It sounds like some of your criticism of dota is unfounded though and you might enjoy hon if you tried it. In answer to your question a large amount of heroes were ported initially and some more were added in then S2 started adding in their own new heroes. Some of the S2 ones are pretty awesome though, Bombardier comes to mind.
